125 million? Wasn't the guess from Pachter at 75 million? So where'd the extra 50 mil come from?

How do you know they paid for other excusives to go multiplat? Do you have links for this?

The bad hardware was a good point, though the addition of the 3 year warranty helped in a big way. On top of that, the 360 has plenty of good games, and a number of exclusives on the way, including Alan Wake, Halo Reach and Crackdown 2.

The 360 has also sold 40 million (link), so please do some research.

Alan Wake is both original, and cannot be played on PC.

sonys exclusives are worse... they might not go multi plat but they die off really fast. not many of them have online modes or any real replay value, the ones that do people dont play it for more then a few months. 360 has games like halo and gears that gets played for years.

MS don't get any money from PC games either, unless they publish the game and/or own the company who is developing the game.

It really doesn't matter if Sony sells more PS3's in the long run than the 360, because Sony has yet to make a profit off of the PS3.

Ummm, actually to most people (outside SW), when you compare Xbox 360 and PS3 directly (don't consider PC a console, it's a system; so this is for console buyers mostly), you won't go into a store and say "I want Mass Effect 2 for PS3" because to everyone else, If it's on 360 and not on PS3, it's an advantage for 360. And to MS, they get money from both sales while Nintendo and Sony don't get any

Their hardware problems aren't out of control like 360's were, or the PS2's DRE was. All electronics have a failure rate, yet companies often only offer a short manufacturer's warranty.

They don't earn revenue from Games for Windows Live. It's a free service offered to developers.

They'll earn money on their DD service, where they offer full games, but that's it.

give us something original that we cant play on pc either. jeez.

DangerHiVoltage

Ill point out your fail by breaking down your points.

1. So called Exclusvies are never really Exclusive: I wasnt aware that ME 2, Halo Reach, Splinter Cell Conviction, Alan Wake, and etc. are on PS3. Oh, there on PC? then there console exclusive. And even if we discount console exclusive, Halo and Alan Wake arent on PC, so those are "True" Exclusives, atleast in your words.

2. They spent 125 million to just get GTA 4: Actually, it was never confirmed that MS paid anything to get GTA 4, the gameon 360. That was something Pachter said. Plus, he said that he believed it cost them like 75 million, not 125 million. You dont count the 50 million or whatever for the DLC because thats not the original games of GTA 4, which you said they paid 125 million for.

3. They rushed out bad hardware: The only point I will agree with you on. But dont let that get to your head.

4. Price Drop after Price Drop: LMAO, since when is dropping price and making something more affordable a bad thing?

5. No real good games on horizen: Enormosuly based on personal opinon. I myself am quite excited for Halo and Gears 3.

6. PS3 at 35 million with no update on MS: umm, they said theyre at 40 million not too long ago, so WTF are you on about?

I really hope you enjoyed this lesson, and would hope you learn to create better topics in the future.

Have you heard of Xbox live? Yeah.. well Microsoft has a PC version called Windows live... Microsoft does make money off pc games.

Addressed in the post above ^^

I presume your talking about the stamp that's put on certain PC games? It's a free service, where they earn no money from it.

They earn money from their Direct Download service.

That's why PC games are usually $10 cheaper, as MS cannot charge revenues on PC games, as Windows/PC is an open platform.

Crumbling? PS3 and 360 have sold the exact same number of consoles since the release of the PS3. It's a dead heat right now. PS3 has some steam, but what's gonna happen when the 360 slim comes out at a lower price, possibly with more features (more features than itself, not PS3)?

Well, especially with the fact that PC retail in the US has pretty much died due to an explosion in direct download popularity.

PC is pretty much it's own entity. It's not owned by any one company, and the Windows platform is completely open to developers. Undoubtedly people outside of System Wars associate PC with Microsoft however.

Sony may not be selling the PS3 for a loss any more but they've got a long way to go before they can say they've made a profit off of the PS3 after the billions (yes, billions, with a "b") they've lost so far.

From Microsoft's point of view, they have already won. The PS2 was the hands down winner of last gen, and the original Xbox was nowhere near that monster seller. The fact that the 360 is anywhere close to the sales of the PS3 is amazing, and could not have been predicted at the end of last gen. Sony got arrogant, and dropped the ball big time. Even if, and at this point I guess you could say when the PS3 outsells the 360, it won't matter because Microsoft took away a huge chunk of Sony's share of the gaming market this gen.

Sony may not be selling the PS3 for a loss any more but they've got a long way to go before they can say they've made a profit off of the PS3 after the billions (yes, billions, with a "b") they've lost so far.

well microsoft has lost billions as well in lawsuits and as a result of the biggest disaster in history rrod.

There's been no lawsuits won against MS over RROD, thats why they owned up to it with the 3 year warranty.

As far as i'm aware anyway.

The Halo craze has subsided and FPS games are beginning to drop in popularity. Microsoft must be in panic mode right about now, and Gran Turismo 5 isn't even out yet. They need a miracle at E3 or they're screwed.

In addition, MS didn't "lose" money on the RROD, they just wrote it off in one quarter.

[QUOTE="monson21502"] wish sony offered a 3 year warrenty for my dead 500 dollar 60 gig. they only just now annouced a 2 year warrenty for a hefty price 69.99 on consoles under 1 years old. they know they have faulty hardware on the phat ps3s that why its only for new systems....monson21502

Their hardware problems aren't out of control like 360's were, or the PS2's DRE was. All electronics have a failure rate, yet companies often only offer a short manufacturer's warranty.

how long after the ps2s launch did they make the slim? im pretty sure it wasnt as soon as sony made the ps3 slim. and dont tell me they did it just to cut costs. because they are just now doing something other then stripping feature from the ps3 to make it cheaper to make and cheaper to run. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/108/1089832p1.html

I don't get what you're implying. They made the slim to cut down on hardware failures? That is an extremely expensive endeavour, considering they would have had to change a large portion of the manufacturing process, rather than just lower hardware failures on the "fat" models, which likely would have been cheaper.

The PS2 was released in Oct of 2000 in the US, and the slim was released in Oct of 2004. That's 4 years between releases.

The PS3 was released in Nov of 2006 in the US, and the slim was released in Sept of 2009. That's 3 years between releases.

All in all, not that much of a difference.

It really doesn't matter if Sony sells more PS3's in the long run than the 360, because Sony has yet to make a profit off of the PS3.

whatever about last gen the only reason microsoft is on par with sony now is the head start and high price of the system now that those two are not a factor the ps3 is winning the sales worldwide like it should.

Why would MS be panicking when the Xbox 360 is still consistently selling well worldwide, they are turning a consistent profit and their games are still selling very well month to month? :?

Because Gran Turismo 5 is coming.
