From what I've seen Gears 3 looks amazing BUT still suffers from technical hiccups like texture pop-ins and it takes a while for the textures to load even during cutscenes. Its an impressive looking game but it cant be king

Install to the HDD...
quod erra demonstrandumthe so called graphics king should'nt need anything to excuse it and shouldnt be conditional on circumstances either
especially since MS has been selling those gimped xbox consoles with a measley 4gig hard-drive
If Uncharted 2 is console graphics king... Why is this graphical effect missing in Uncharted 2?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtn3xUFP190
Also notice the transparency resolution for the fire effects are high res compared to what was seen in Uncharted 3...
CorbraMax
:o mind = blown.
that looks miles ahead of any other console game.

Yes it was.
you only have a 360 don't you? and you haven't played gears 3 at all have you?Crysis 2 is console graphics king on Xbox 360, Gears of War 3 a close second.

Crysis 2 is a mess.
Well what i can realy tell from your link is that Gears of War 3 suffers : 1. No AA = Jaggy look 2. Ustable Framerat drops to 25fps sometimes 3. Screen Tearing. For me it a shame for a 2011 high rated exclusive to launch without a single AA when there are many cheap AA solutions out there (FXAA & MLAA) :( . Oh i forgot to mention that textures still loads slower in Gears 3.....ofcause it an unreal engine game. Uncharted 2 & killzone 3 still looks and perform far beter. So it seems like Uncharted 2 still hold up to the best looking console game. KZ3 had a shot but just missed, then came Crysis 2, but it had a lot of performance issues and didn't hold up. And lastly...yikes this is awkward for 360 owners who have been hyping this games graphics to be the next king! Another reason why we should wait for games to be released before saying they are console graphics king... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vs-gears-of-war-3

Where's evidence Gears isn't using FXAA? I see a definite upgrade and lesser amount of jags since the beta.
The framerate falls max 26-28. And that's when a large amount of enemies and or particle effect directly hits your screen.
And tearing in Uncharted is masked by buffering which causes input lag.
I've yet to experience one of these issues, except texture pop. Which happend once during a cutscene and lasted two seconds.

1.) Crysis 1 Max with no AA looks leaps and bounds better than every console game released yet.
2.) Gears 3 with no AA still looks better than Uncharted 2.
3.) Uncharted 1 had framerate drops and screen tearing... And it still looked better than Gears 1. Same rule applies here. But if you judge graphics on performance than you would also blindly say that Forza 3 looks better than GT5. Since that gamehadcrazy framerate drops and copious amounts of tearing.
4.) MLAA is not a cheap solution. Uncharted 3 is actually using a crappy version of it compared to God of War 3 and Killzone 3.
5.) Textures in UC2 load just as slow as Gears 3. Try playing a MP game. Uncharted 2 uses recorded cutscenes to mask texture loading.
6.) If Uncharted2 and Killzone 3 lighting, shadows, and motion blur are not as good Gears 3... How is it supposed to look better? Nevermind the increased texture resolution quality and filtering in Gears 3. Also the heavy amounts of high res alphas on display without going sub HD like Resistance 3 to pull it off.

And Gears of war 3 is using A.A. It's obvious, as the beta contained no FXAA. Now there's far less jags in comparision.

No. That game granted is fun, it's not graphics king though. It's basically Uncharted in a constant scripted sequence, and those are the only areas that look generally above average.
That game looked CLEAN though. Barely noticed any jaggies at all. For a console game, that was impressive. Thanks to it's use of MLAA.Infamous 2 also has no AA... And a unstable framerate...
Killzone 2and 3 have unstable framerates.

The point is that every one of these high end exclusives have graphical shortcomings. May it be tearing, framerate drops, jaggies, or texture pop ins. Both of these systems only have 512MB of RAM. But there are some cows on here that truly believe that the PS3 is a supercomputer with no ceiling.

It has some of the best particle effects. And no the performance is top notch. Very rare and tiny framedrops and no tearing. I didn't say dynamic texturing I said detailed textures. Whereas Uncharted 2 has really detailed textures Gears 3's textures are pretty much a big pixel. Well the 360 doesn't have enough juice in it to utilize MLAA unless it's real poor graphics games. Gears 3 would have to sacrifice alot to use MLAA. That's why they didn't use it, cause there wasn't enough juice left, they couldn't even get the much lighter FXAA. But yeah from what I saw in the beta U3 had terrible AA. But that's just the beta.Killzone 2 and 3 framerates doesn't drop to Gears of War 3's level. But i taught lems were hyping Gears of War 3 to use FXAA and some even said it looks cleaner than God of War 3  now see what it ended up with No single AA  not even 2XMSAA .Infamous 2 also has no AA... And a unstable framerate...
Killzone 2and 3 have unstable framerates.
Uncharted 1 has screen tearing
GT5. The biggest and highest selling exclusive on the PS3 has framerate drops, pop in, and crazy screen tearing.
I can do this all day.
CorbraMax
killzone 3 does not have unstable frame rates and killzone 2 only really had it during the bridge section, the rest of the game was extremely stable. and I have no idea why you brought up UC1 Anyways, I am pretty sure Gears 3>Uc2 in graphics but I have yet to play it[QUOTE="Diviniuz"][QUOTE="CorbraMax"]

Uncharted 2 hardly has any framerate drops or jaggies. And no tearing or texture pop in. Gears 3 has all of them.[QUOTE="CorbraMax"][QUOTE="Cow4ever"] Well this. Killzone 3 has great particle effects but it doesn't take it out on the performance, texture detail and AA like Gears 3. And the lightning is pretty decent also. Cow4ever
Killzone 3 has low resolution particle effects. The performance shouldn't be bad at all. lolNeither Uncharted 2 or Gears 3 have dynamic texturing. Only one game this gen does that. It's called RAGE.
It's not like Xbox 360 can't do MLAA. It's inCostume Quest on XBLA. They just can't afford it. The AA used in Uncharted 3 is not good either. It's actually worse than 2XMSAA.
But that's just the beta.Actually I'm pretty sure Gears 3 could afford FXAA. It is only 0.9ms of rendering time. It just blurs the image too much in it's current state. See Dues Ex 3.And then we will have people on here complaining that it's too blurry. So if the game is native HD and not sub HDpeople will always pick at something.
Like when there textures are pretty much just a big pixel. I know KZ3 dropps frames I noticed it myself but it's really really rare and tiny drops. Gears 3 does it more. Nah nothing is as bad as Crysis 2[QUOTE="Cow4ever"]
[QUOTE="Innovazero2000"] Where does Gears 3 give up texture quality, because it dumps all over the first 2 and increase it's quality of filtering quite a bit. On top of that KZ3 does drop frames, although not very often like Gears 3. You make Gears out to be Crysis 2 in it's dropped frames and that is simply not even the case.CorbraMax
You're gonna honestly tell yourself that the texture work in Acts 3 and 5 are one big pixel? Or are you in serious denial?
You really need to play Gears of War 1 to understand the concept of framerate drops. Gears 3 is smooth as butter.
Show it to me then. I didn't say the FPS was terrible but it's worse than U2 for example. It has some of the best particle effects. And no the performance is top notch. [QUOTE="Bretter2200"][QUOTE="monkeysmoke"] Well what i can realy tell from your link is that Gears of War 3 suffers : 1. Uncharted 2 & killzone 3 still looks and perform far beter.monkeysmoke
Gears of War 3 suffers : 1. No AA = Jaggy look 2. Ustable Framerat 3. Screen Tearing. Evidence from the tech experts : www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-vs-gears-of-war-3 It a shame for such overhyped exclusive without AA not even 2XMSAA. Sony knows how to clean up their games better than microsoft!I know its DF with their analyse, but seriously when it drops to 26-29 fps its only for like under a second , u wont even notice .. jaggies its there yes, but really not something you will notice that much - screen tearing is second to none, atleast u cant see it(top of the screen maybe) dunno - panyway gears 3 is seriously fantastic so far and surely does a better job than uc2 .. both great games none the less.
Anyway gotta love people that dont play the games, and only come to nitpick if some site says something bad , which isnt bad at all in matter fact .. please serious play the games before making opinions..

I said it HARDLY does have it. There are not alot of jaggies at all. The avarage FPS is like 29,9999. And I never saw any texture pop ins in the SP.Please Log In to post.
