But....PS3's don't break.
Not as much as the 360![QUOTE="subrosian"]
My laptop sits on long carpet for hours at a time while I use it - it only gets moderately warm... if carpet can really doom an Xbox 360, then that is poor design on the part of Microsoft. Why? All they had to do was stick a few plastic fins on the bottom to act as a small wedge, so that if it was layed horizontally on carpet, the front end would be lifted an inch or two up, and allow airflow underneath the unit.
This unit isn't even sitting on carpet in the picture. Why do 360 fanatics claim the picture is fake. Do you honestly believe *not a single* faulty Halo 3 edition Xbox 360 exists? Not a single unit could have been manufactured badly, damaged in shipping, or died upon first boot up?
Dreams-Visions
Your laptop is designed to shut itself down in the event of a thermal event. The 360 does not (hence why the towel trick works).
Your laptop probably has a cheap as hell GPU in it that couldn't get hot even if it wanted to.
You make bad decisions. You should not be proud enough to tell people you intentionally sit a laptop on your carpet for hours at a time, covering some of if not all of it's ventallation. Even if it doesn't get overly hot, it's simply unwise.
You presume the solution is simple. If the solution were that simple and cheap, Microsoft would have done that long ago. I think I'd leave it to their engineers to figure it out. They're well educated, so if they thought some plastic bits would get the job done, they would have used them. Instead the redesigned the heatsink and some other stuff to try to reduce the heat. I'm not on their engineering team and neither are you. Neither are 99.999% of the people who comment on this issue. None of us know how simple or complicated the issue is.
[QUOTE="DeathIsARight"][QUOTE="zaid55"]the falcon chips were put in some of the 360s. IF MS keep this up im a gonna have to buy a PS3 :'(Kritical_Strike
Having a PC and a PS3 makes more sense anyway. By not having a 360 what are you really missing?
Nah Wii60 combo is more effective.
nah, PCWii is the most effectivethat MS might not have fixed it with any one hardware revision, and there's no guarantee that the newer 360s aren't getting RRoD as well.
subrosian
Until the evidence starts puring in, Cow's wishful thinking reality. There is no evidence that new newer 360s will get the RROD as well.
Time will tell...
If they didn't fix the problem in this revision, 1 billion dollars and a 3 year warranty will ensure us that we will be able to continue gaming until they do.
And while we game...Cows will wait (and post tons of lies on forums throughout the land, of course).
I felt sorry for the lemmings having their constant RRODs and having to deny them, so I decided to help them out a little. I've been looking around for pictures of the same x360 and here is what I found.

Jeez why can't lemmings admit MS sucks at making consoles. The 360 was a rushed system, everyone knows it. Now they are reaping the benefits.
Here's my two cents:
Microsoft has improved the way 360's have been made since the Elites came out. Yes, there are still cases of consoles red ringing, but the rate at which it's happening with them is normal. Any electronic device is going to have failure rates, and Microsoft put the red rings in the 360's for a reason. I've only heard of like three elites red ringing, and this is the first Halo 360 I've seen with the red rings.
Let me say it again--even if the problem is fixed, there are still going to be hardware failures, it's just the nature of consumer electronics. What matters is if they can get the number of failing units down, which it seems like they have. If you have a 360 with HDMI, then you should be in pretty good shape.

I too wouldn't simply admit that the 65nm were unable to fix the RROD error when all one had as "evidence" was that more or less meaningless picture.

Oh dear...
If Microsoft hasn't resolved this issue by late November (Mass Effect), I'm seriously going to lose it.
So? The console is put together poorly and everyone knows that.
My premium launch-bought 360 has yet to RROD, and if it does I can just send it back for FREE and get a new one. In the end I still have an amazing library of games to enjoy and a great, fleshed out online service. Ultimately RROD is more of a corporate issue then a gamer issue. As such I don't see why it's constantly brought up in SW. Everyone is covered by warranty, and it takes a week and a half to fix. Not only that, but plenty of people have launch-bought 360's that have yet to malfunction in any way shape or form.
Would I prefer the 360 have totally stable hardware? Well, of course - but what matters is that Microsoft has taken steps (and money out of their own wallet) to work out the issue and prevent it from becoming a gaming nightmare. The fact that they did so speaks volumes louder than the actions of previous gaming companies in the face of mass-spread hardware failure (DRE, I'm looking at you.)

Dang, someone got to make this thread before I did. lol. Anyway...
I love the 360, I really do - but geez louise the thing is finicky. I've also heard all this news on the Bungie forums and crap how Halo 3 is screwing up 360's too. It's such a good system, why cant it just be reliable? That's my beef with it, I'm a Playstation fan obviously, but I'm not biased against other consoles, but dumping money into my 360 seems pointless anymore. The 360 needs vents in the front that actually suck air in or something, that would probably be more beneficial to the heat problem then the freaking chips. Sad thing is seems like NOBODY knows about it's horrible failure rates until after they buy it, or until it dies on them. I know I didnt, I know my cousin didnt, my buddy at work didnt. lol. It's crazy, maybe that's why it keeps selling good. I wish MS would truely fix the problem or just rebuild the entire system.

Dude, forget this picture - it's a known fact way before this Halo console came out that the 360 is faulty, estimated at a 33% failure rate. The Halo 360's have only been out a week as far as I know, I can't see one dieing that quick.
FYI, blocking the vents so that you get reduced air flow through the unit is not the only problem, you also suck up dust. Add moisture from the atmosphere, it gets hot when you play it - turn it off it cools and therefore moisture in the air is then condensed, soaking the dust that gathers on components, which then causes tracking and short circuits on PCB's.

theres ur link, falcon chips.. aka 65 nm
Till we get an confirmation thatALLHalo 3-X360 editions include the 65nm chip your point is moot. And even if all of these new edition consoles do have this new chip, there is no way of finding out if the Red Ring there is a "faked" error. Several statements such as that have been made in this thread and I still can not believe we're discussing this.
A red ring can be produced simply by not plugging in the video cables.
A ring from not plugging in a video cable is all 4 lights lit up, not 3, microsoft was debating removing that option because ppl would call into microsoft and say oh no i got the red rings, and it happend to be the video cable was loose..lol some ppl

Tell that to the dust bunnies I blew out of my case the other day, a lot of folks including me, still use good ol air cooling instead of water cooling, and they pull in more dust even with filters than the x360 can ever hope to withstand, with relatively little cost to performance. As for broken Hard Drives, well of course they break, you can't expect something with many different moving parts to keep spinning perfectly forever do you? That's why most computers nowadays are built to anticipate when hard drives might occurs so you can back up your data and be back up and running with little fuss. While with the x360 a RROD means a week and a half with no system.

Lol that's ridiculous. You're being stubborn because you're defending your precious 360. I love it too man, I love the 360 too - I play Gears of War all the time, dont be so defensive about it, geesh. The 360 is rushed, faulty, and no, it isnt MY guess - it's failure rate is ESTIMATED NOT BY ME to be 33% http://www.dailytech.com/Retailers+Estimate+Xbox+360+Failure+Rate+High+as+33+Percent/article7892.htm
And how do you know that this picture WASNT tampered with? It's a pretty realistic picture, but the odds fall in the favor that it is indeed real. Quit defending everything by saying "How do you know for sure?" because you dont know either - but we all know the 360 is faulty - PERIOD.
It's a well known fact that the new halo edition 360 uses the new falcon cpu however the gpu is the problem so it's not like they fixed the problem. My 360 has RROD twice in under 6 months now I just leave my ac on andpray. The 360 needs a heat pipe on the gpu or a die shrink before this will go away. My ps3 stays on folding and I even put a 7200rpm hard drive in it and it never blinked and it has the psu in the system.
Ms clearly has the psu huge brick outside and it still has issues don't blame it on the user this is ms's fault for shipping faulty hardware. Why would anybody buy a 360 now when they should know it has a 1/3 chance of failure is beyond me ??
BrooklynBomber
AFAIK, only some HALO3 edition Xbox 360 use the new Falcon chipset, so it might very well be on of the old editions, you'll never know utill we see the lot number;
Taken from Engadget:
We've been waiting and waiting, and after months of speculation, a hardware revision, a couple limited editions, and even a new SKU, it looks like Microsoft is finally shipping "Falcon"-equipped Xbox 360s with 65nm CPUs. According to the eagle-eyed posters in the official Xbox forums, Halo edition 360s from lot #734 appear to be the first machines with the new chips, and the time-honored method of peeking inside the case with a flashlight should confirm you have the latest and greatest once you get your baby home. Great speach you obviously have not talked to the idiots at tech support or had to wait for your consoles coffin to get there (or pay for shipping) then wait for it to come back. You pray they don't lose it in the mail or at the repair center all the time you can't game. Personally I will never buy another xbox till I know they work. All my old consoles work besides my xbox and that's why I got a 360 now that has issues. I am a adult pc gamer so I know how to take care of my hardware the simple fact that mine broke twice speaks volumes. Its a shame we all have to fight and mouth eachother when we're in the same boat...
