I love how defending a console of preference = meltdown. It's called Debating for a reason, you wouldn't go into a parliament building and watch a debate yelling that one side had a meltdown.

At this point in time, yeah, pretty much. It isn't outside the realm of possibility that Wii U or XB1 could make a surge and comeback, but it is definitely the long shot at this point. That said, I'm not sure why PS4 is winning so commandingly at this point. It has power sure, and I guess still running on some surplus free will, but the game selection isn't anything stellar yet (not awful, but not really enough to justify the lead it has) and now it is priced equal and in some place over the competition. It is just odd. Not to complain, I own the thing and am looking forward to the future, just a bit puzzling to me.

In terms of hardware sales, first year to PS4, congrats on Sony for their fine start.

If this gen lasts 4-5 years PS4 might well win and you could argue they won should they win the next year.

If the gen lasts 10 years like last its still anyone's to win/lose and I wouldn't write off Microsoft or even Nintendo for that matter.

I'm hoping for a short gen so they can both build consoles that can compete with PC.

3x5 = 15 million games sold.

10x2.5 = 25 million games sold.

The end results is the same the xbox one selling less games and 3rd parties notice that.

I honestly think people got sick of Gen7 and wanted to upgrade. That gen was just too long. At the $400 and global price range the PS4 is at, the fact that it's having a good track record of putting games on at 1080p native and doesn't have any distracting bells and whistles makes the general gaming consumer look at it as a knee-jerk or impulse purchase with legs.

In the meantime, all the CoD/Sports franchises/Assassin's Creed/etc yearly staples are all running on the best machine while the good stuff is over the horizon. I'm expecting Bloodborne to be Gen 8's first real massive hit.

Also you need to take into serious consideration just how WEAK the CPU's are in the "next gen" consoles in comparison to the average i3/i5 or FX CPU. On paper the PS4 GPU looks like a hybrid HD 7850 with 2 extra CU's but CPU bottleneck is so severe that the PC counterpart in resolution and framerate is a lot slower than a HD 7850, its why a 260X and a GTX 650 Ti run Alien Isolation at 1920x1080 at 30FPS just like the PS4 that has dips to the 20's.

Pair a GTX 650 Ti or 260X with a decent CPU and you will get 1920x1080 at 30FPS which is what the PS4 can do at the very best... Or 1600x900 at 60FPS like in battlefield multiplayer which the PS4 ran at 40-50FPS rather than the advertised 60.

Watch Dogs runs at 20-30FPS at 1600x900 on the PS4...

Below is a HD 7850 that the PS4 is based off and a litte better than running it at 37FPS at 1920x1200...

So why isn't the PS4 running it at 1920x1080 at 30FPS?... Because of the CPU.

So when I say the PS4 is on par with a GTX 750 Ti its no joke because the average desktop CPU is twice as powerful as the CPU in the PS4/X1.
