for oct-dec 09 they had 20 million more euros in net income then they did in 08 with a loss of only -167 million euro

No, they didn't...it was January they annouced that.

It's really easiest to say that at the end of the Dec 2006 quarter Microsoft had sold 10.4 million 360s, while Sony had sold 1.7 PS3s, so at the start of the gen Microsoft essentially had an 8.7 million lead.
