Release dates for PS2 games

Amazing that, so long after the next gen consoles have been released, the PS2 is still being sold, produced and having games made for it despite its already massive array of titles on sale. It's even getting Mercenaries 2.

/me looks at Xbox dust catching on shelf above computer................

I wander if the Xbox 360 will get the same treatment..............

Mark my words: once the next Microsoft console comes out, they will ditch the 360 as fast as they can.

This.

The Ps2 is still being supported because it continues to sell a lot of hardware and software. If this wasn't the case, you can bet your ass Sony would have left it for dead long ago.

The PSP and Ps3 are putting up respectable numbers, but the bulk of Sony Computer Entertainment's profits are undoubtedly coming from the Ps2.

Just like how MS said "oh! casual gamers ARE willing to pay for Xbox Live because it's worth the money!" and yet, tonnes of people are picking the PS3 because online gaming is free.

Actually, it's a culmination of reputation, since Sony did the same for the PS1 and it improves Sony's reputation which is good for consumers and for the company, sales, the PS2 has a tonne of games on it so they might aswell keep producing consoles since there is still a tonne of good games that most people have not tried, and, if someone buys a PS2, it is unlikely that they will buy another console for a few years and they know MS has a short lifespan on their console compared to their's. So eventually, when the PS2 is discontinued, there'll be a lot of loyal Sony customers who'll probably switch the PS3.

Uh huh, why are people buying the PS2 now? Ans: Cause it's cheap and has a great library.

So when will they jump ship to the PS3? Ans: When it's cheap and has a great library.

When will that happen? Ans: When PS3 is at the end of its cycle, which according to Sony, is 10 years from now. Nice... that is IF they don't jump to the Wii first.

If you want to boil it down to facts. The playstation 1 was continued after the release of its successor. The playstation 2 has also continued after the release of its sucessor. What has MS done to build my confidence? They bummed the Xbox as soon as Xbox 360 was released and became the first subscription online gaming service where you buy the game, then have to pay to play it online.

Yes and no. Sony did have a lawsuit over rumble because they refuse to pay the company that patent it (can't remember the name) but later on they succumb and pay anyway. Which fits with the topic theme of "commitment". Sony was not comitted to having rumble nor committed to not having rumble.

P.S: What's with cows calling people that disagree with them "fanboys"? That's so ironic it's not even funny.

Sony continues to support it because it brings in the $$$. I'm not saying that continued support doesn't build reputation and customer satisfaction. It does.

But can you really blame MS for ditching the xbox? It barely made them a cent in the first place, and by the time the 360 was announced, it was on its deathbed anyway while the PS2 was still going strong. They screwed up big time last gen so it was a smart decision just to let it go and focus on a fresh start in order to gain a foothold in the market.

They've done well this gen.The 360 is doing far better than the original xbox ever had. I don't think they'll be dropping it prematurely.

Funny you should mention those, because nearly all of those features are confirmed to arrive in the form of an update (In-Game XMB and Home). And then the PS3 will be better because it is FREE

I think you raise a good point, but consider this: the RROD issue has been a customer service nightmare and I've heard that to fix the hardware issues, the system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. It has something to do with the placement of the fans and the design of the disc drive.

So would it be unreasonable to assume that they'd want a fresh start from that also? Or atleast they wouldn't want it haunting them?

They sure are confirmed.................. confirmed ever since the PS3 launched, Just to catch up to XBL. And you're just now getting it, Wait I take that back you have even got them yet.. WOW. Seems Sony is more commited to selling the PS2 than improving their PSN.

Barely. Not exactly the millions I mentioned. And I was not talking about the 360 anyway. Most of PS2 buyers are definitely casuals. I cannot imagine millions of hardcore cows running about. And the Wii has them square in its sights. Heck MS tried too with that Viva Pinata thing.

They sure are confirmed.................. confirmed ever since the PS3 launched, Just to catch up to XBL. And you're just now getting it, Wait I take that back you have even got them yet.. WOW. Seems Sony is more commited to selling the PS2 than improving their PSN.

I do take it as a compliment that a $50 a year service is being compared as a comparative to a FREE service.

[QUOTE="EliteKitteh"]They've done well this gen.The 360 is doing far better than the original xbox ever had. I don't think they'll be dropping it prematurely.Tragic_Kingdom7

I'm starting to see the point the TC has raised. Yes, the whole RRoD thing and the way they've handled it so far is unacceptable.

They've taken two steps forward and one step back this gen.

[QUOTE="donwoogie"][QUOTE="taker42"]True, but you aren't seeing all that millions of "loyal Sony customers" jumping ship now, are you? I do not doubt the PS3 will sell once it gets the big games under its belt, but my point is, will it be too little, too late?taker42

How is it a litle too late? The PS3 is beating the Xbox 360 on sales.

Barely. Not exactly the millions I mentioned. And I was not talking about the 360 anyway. Most of PS2 buyers are definitely casuals. I cannot imagine millions of hardcore cows running about. And the Wii has them square in its sights. Heck MS tried too with that Viva Pinata thing.

Gah! Viva Pinata...... don't make me puke............

The PS3 is outselling the Xbox 360 and has sold more in its first year than Xbox 360 did.

Release dates for PS2 games

Amazing that, so long after the next gen consoles have been released, the PS2 is still being sold, produced and having games made for it despite its already massive array of titles on sale. It's even getting Mercenaries 2.

Funnily enough, Microsoft seems to correct its problems by releasing new products, so I assume they'll get an early start next gen (from some comments they've made, it seems that way), design the next Xbox in a fashion that makes sense and take advantage of the 3rd party support they've built up.

Although the PS3 might end up beating the 360 this gen due to longevity and killer APP's finally coming out, I think the next Microsoft console will have perfect pitch.

Both hit 10 million in 1 year, don't give me that BS.

And Viva Pinata is awesome if you were to take the goggles off.

I'm sure theri commitment is to there customers and keeping them happy, not hte potential 120million people willing to spend money on them.

The xbox had what 20 million? Guarenteed if the ps3 flops it wont be supported, it'll be dropped like the xbox was. Stop kidding yourself, none of the big three care about customers before money, they'd not be as big as they are now if they did.

It's a stupid argument to claim when the ps2 had so many more users compared to the competition.

One was a fair game, the other was a cheap cash in on the back of the reputation of the first.

The 360 will finish last, ther's no doubt in my mind. Microsoft won't come out on top unless they get some exclusive games that have widespread appeal.

Right now, they're just catering to an American audience as evidenced by the limited success of the xbox brand in Japan and Europe.

I agree. They're not quitting on the PS3 at all. That's what I admire about Sony. They don't give into their competitors-they work harder. Things are coming together slowly but people don't realize that this stuff takes time to work on.

Nobody forces you to buy a 360. If you don't want it, don't buy it. I own every console this generetion and in my opinion the 360 is by far the best console. When the new Xbox comes out, I will buy it if it has the games that I want to play. How many PS2 games did I buy in the last 2 years? Only one, while I've bought 8 games for my 360 and 2 for my PS3.....while only 1 for my Wii ( I seem to rent games for the Wii).

MS said they were in the console buisiness for the long haul and that they were not planning on making a profit until the THIRD freaking system. If that is not commitment I don't know what is.

If by commitment you mean milking every last drop out of the console long after its worth playing then yeah sony wins.

Yeh. And people say Sony is a corporation just like MS, out to only get your money. Well there is a vast difference between earning a profit and profit mongering.

Not everyone who plays games consoles is a hard gamer. Some people don't want a next gen console. Some just like to play games casually. I have at least 8 friends who play their PS2s and have no next gen console.
