Halo is damn good, but Red Alert 2 was my favorite.

Try Metroid Prime & Metroid Prime 2 for size. I recommend listening to (from Prime 1) Space Station Interior, Tallon Overworld 1 & 2, Phendrana Drifts, Metroid Prime Battle & Essence of Metroid Prime. And for Prime 2: Torvus Bog, Submerged Temple, Chykka Larva & Adult, Sanctuary Fortress, Emperor Ing 1 & 2 and Hunters.
If those don't please you, try my personal favorites GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark .
They chose KZ2 over ODST, Dragon Age: Origins, Heavy Rain, Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed II and Uncharted 2? :| Did they play all those games?[QUOTE="RavenLoud"]
KZ2 just won an award for its soundtrack.
I got to say that it deserves it, I have no complains about the game's sound, very energetic.angelkimne
I'm fine with differing opinions, but that's just plain odd to me.
Have you heard the Killzone 2 soundtrack? It's pretty epic, the meny music alone is epic.

only thing Epic about killzone 2....was it's intro. :P>Did you listen to Shadow Of The Colossus?HAZE-UnitNope. I've heard good things but I think I'll wait until the HD remake releases so I can experience everything for the first time. :)
btw just check the Castlevania osts I brought above, good music there.HAZE-UnitWill do. As I said before, I can only really comment on this gen cause before I wasn't much of a hardcore gamer. I have played a bit of the DS Castelvania games though.
Mass Effect series.

I would have said that, but ME2 was kind of a let down on that front. It had some nice themes, started out great with the Illusive Man and Humans Disappearing/The Attack all the way up to Normandy Reborn. But the individual tracks for each squad member had no life, maybe except for Garrus' and Tali's. The Collectors theme became a little overused with little variation on some of the subsequent attacks. But the finale with the Suicide Mission/End Run is one of the best pieces I've heard in a game.
Mass Effect 1 was just cool though.

Eh, I guess the menu track was okay, but beyond that I can't remember any specific theme from the game, and it's not something I'd spend money on. Fine for background music, but nothing else. If we're just doing menu theme's, Uncharted 2's was way better anyway. :PMost disappointing soundtrack: Mass Effect 2. The music of ME1 was unique, and fit the mood of the game perfectly as it progressed. ME2 was filled with sterile, commonplace trash. I can't remember one song from that game, and I played through it three times.Mark36111The Illusive Man?
I agree though; it was meh compared to the first (which had an awesome ost).

totally agree, it lacks the spacy feel of the ME, they are just not as memorable and unique as the first one's ST'sHey I know this thread basically ended, so sorry to post so late but I want to thank everybody for their great contributions. I really appreciate how mature everybody was in thsi thread and I was listening just now to alot of these great songs. I still think Halo has a great soundtrack, but these songs u guys have mentioned have also been fantastic and gave me that great emotional plateaus i always look for in soundtracks.... I have some new favorites now
This. Seriously. It's easily the best single collection of game music in existenceWhile lacking in original tracks, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the best soundtracks ever. It's the amalgamation of gaming's best achievements.

Halo's soundtrack is not that good. It had a memorable theme and that is all. Its composer gets far too much hype imo.
Cool soundtrack, yes... but not amazing.

I wouldn't outright say the soundtrack is better than the Halo series', but I did enjoy the World of Goo soundtrack; for a puzzle game, and for a game in general, it had a pretty riveting soundtrack. Burning Man, Cog in the Machine, and Red Carpet Extend-o-Matic are a few of my favorites. The soundtrack is even available for free on the developer's blog.
Halo has amazing music.
Monster Hunter's up there for me, a lot of cool boss themes, and the main theme is awesome.
Any game with epic symphonic music is pretty mch awesome.

The one Halo game I have not played. haha. I'll check it out, but I really do not care for the Halo soundtracks. I find the music to be predictable orchestrations of similar chord progressions that provide nothing new to the music world. Sadly, it is one of the better soundtracks in videogames...Halo's soundtrack is not that good. It had a memorable theme and that is all. Its composer gets far too much hype imo.

I'm sure it has been said somewhere, but NIER has an amazing OST.

Try playing ODST. If you don't believe the soundtrack is exceptional.. Well then I don't know what to tell you.
Edit: Ah, you have redeemed yourself with the above post. :P
It comes down to opinion, really. In after people who have never played Halo list off FInal Fantasy tracks.vashkey
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjvo0SPAOiQ= Gregorian chanting followed by 80's guitar rifts.
When I first played it it seemed they tried to capture the feel of this opening. (or any one of a million movies that use the chanting to symbolise something "Holy".)

You seem to late to preempt the large group of people who have played and like FF, a series that has been awarded multiple times for it's soundtrack and has it's own touring orchestra that sells out.

Just listen to Red Dead Redemption's and you are IN the West.
But I really liked Crysis's soundtrack also, as well as Uncharted's.
*Bonus* look up Lost's soundtrack RIGHT NOW. It's a TV show... but must be mentioned

I just wanna know why the orange in Locke's mouth? for real I don't get the joke
In the Pilot, Kate takes the shoes off a dead man to go hiking with Jack and Charlie. She sees Locke looking at her, and his mouth is shut. To try and take away from the depression of taking a dead man's shoes, he opens his mouth, and there's the orange smile. She is not amused.
JRPG's always have great music, well not all of them.
edit- Xenoblade has an amazing soundtrack

I agree too, in terms of epicness. I haven't really found Halo's soundtrack to be all that great. :sNothing beats Morrowind/Oblivion OST by Jeremy Soule. THE best soundtrack in the gaming industry. Fable/Fable II by Russell Shaw is also great.

Nintendo's big 3 franchises(Mario, Zelda, Metroid) blow Halo out of the water. Chrono Cross has one of the best soundtracks ever, So do the Golden Sun games. The Elder Scrolls games have amazing soundtracks as well. SSBB has a huge selection of great songs, but none are really original. DKC2's soundtrack is great as well. Theres more, but those are just off the top of my head.
Also, I dont find Mass Effect 2's soundtrack very good, but people keep listing it. Although I have never played the game none of the tracks stand out to me and they all seem kinda generic.
