Voice chat really wouldn't change the game. Have you played it? If you did then you'd realize that the map fixes all need for voice chat. You see exactly everything that is happening in the map in real time. You know exactly where you need to go, who to back up and where the enemy is. Plus that, the respawning is so fast that even if you call out something that happened to you, you'll be back in the action before anybody can really do anything. All this will do is end some peoples complaints about one subject, and they will move onto the next thing to complain about.

I have played and believe that voice chat would have offered a more in depth experience, if you had a strategy for each map. With the proposed ranked mode, it would make the game better. The voice chat lack is fine for casual play.

I disagree. Faster respawns, tactical overhead map and jump to location pretty much fixes all of the problems with voice chat, and without the need for voice chat.

please stop making excuses for nintendo still being in the dark ages. It doesint matter if I have a overhead map communicating is important and also enhances the experience. Im pretty sure if nintendo took out sound and color you would come up with some illogical defense for them.

What? They did make a setting for color blindness. Believe it or not Nintendo wants gaming for all.

The lack of a common function shows the opposite. It just shows they are behind the times when it comes to online and are for some reason afraid of interacting with other people.

Thats where you're wrong. Lack of common function puts everyone on equal footing and helps to ensure fair play. It also keeps the fun for all aesthetic.

wow dude you are one blind nintendo fanboy. Not having something that EVERY OTHER GAME HAS is not to ensure fair play. It just show how backwards nintendo is when it comes to online. Everyone knows this anyone else is just lieing to themselves.

@SolidTy@charizard1605 Sorry guys. Because of...Life, I'm not always available to do stuff online.

Char, if need be, feel free to edit my threads in any way necessary. That goes for other mods too. =)

It's all good bro! :P

Curious though, how did you come to 7?

Pretty hilarious that this was being hyped to hell and back, with it being regularly listed as a reason Nintendo won E3 (by way of Skype, apparently) and one of the biggest games of 2015, and now platform fans won't even stick their neck out enough to bet on a 7.

Every time you think Nintendo is finally "getting it", remember this hype fail.

It's not nearly as cut and dry as that. The information over the last year about the game has changed many peoples view significantly. I was hyped for this after last years e3. We aren't getting the game we thought we were though. Feel free to try and twist this as sheep under hyping something though. Everyone can see the truth.

I can understand that viewpoint, if true, since the beta is bound to affect the view of the game.

My main concern honestly is that if this game turns out to be a dud that I won't pay more than $20 for, what will be the big Wii U retail game I buy this year?

I hope E3 has answers.

@SolidTy: Buy xenoblade.

Huh?

Was that ever in doubt?

I own two copies of Xenoblade, and the entire Xeno games since Xenogears (which I owned before Xeno were the "in" thing to collect). One of my Xenoblade copies is sealed and one my opened play copy which is also near mint as all my games are.

Pic (more words below the pic):

My worry was in the last few Xenoblade 2 threads which speculated 2016 as the new release dates...if Xeno doesn't make it stateside this year and this Splatoon game is a dud, I'm hoping for an E3 miracle.

Of course, if Xeno does make it this year that will be fantastic...

Assuming Xeno makes it (great for me), I have to be honest, I would worry though that this game might not draw the Wii U masses if it's the big major NIntendo title for the Wii U this year. Something I think Splatoon was designed to fill, but that game may also not be working out to fill that void.

@charizard1605: Right, did you miss some of my words below the picture? (I was worried posting below the picture they would be easily skipped)

"My worry was in the last few Xenoblade 2 threads which speculated 2016 as the new release dates...if Xeno doesn't make it stateside this year and this Splatoon game is a dud, I'm hoping for an E3 miracle.

----

Point is, while I hope Xeno releases in 2015, it's on my worry list as a delay :P

Of course, maybe Yoshi's Woolly World will turn out fab and it's due this year. I thought 2010's Kirby Epic Yarn was pretty good back in the day (same dev Good Feel), 86/100 http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii/kirbys-epic-yarn

I agree. Not sure what's going on...

NX development sucking up resources with 3DS sucking up some as well?

I'm not sure. There is always Yoshi's Woolly World, and while I'm not excited, perhaps that will be the focus for Wii U Xmas?

Xeno has been a long, long time in the making so it should play out well I think. E3 can't come soon enough.

@SolidTy: No, no, I just meant that in response to your question about which big retail Wii U game to purchase this year is all. I am fully confident in Xenoblade coming this year- and between that, Star Fox, Mario Maker, and Yoshi, hopefully Nintendo can at least stack their holiday season (because the rest of their lineup has sort of sucked...)

Oh, there is also Fatal Frame!

This is Nintendo we're talking about so anything is possible with them, but it would be a huge mistake not to have the game ready for the holidays in the absence of so much else.

Yes, I know.

It was a battle bewteen 6 and 7. 8, 9, and 10 were nowhere close. 5 was the closest...And it wasn't that close.

There is a difference though. Voice chat was never necessary in the first place. People forget that games like Halo, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye and the like all functioned just fine without voice chat and its still fine. Its only recently that people feel that voice chat is a necessity. I'd actually argue that because of the HUD and the map that it completely negated a need for voice chat. The supposed main purpose of voice chat is to disseminate information in real time. The map pretty much negates this need.

You do understand that those three games you mentioned were local multiplayer and you could voice chat with your friends in the same room, unless you don't talk with your friends while playing games. That map excuse is a lame cop out, there is no reason for Nintendo to not allow voice chat. Why defend such a stupid decision?

Yes I did. To show you that voice chat wasn't necessary back then and it isn't now. Even in the big shooters today people usually end up muting everybody. This is just people crying about it because its Nintendo.

Thats some backwards logic, what you are saying is like if nintendo took away the hud its a good move cause everyone is equally crippled. Having a function that everyone can use does not make the game any less balanced, but can enhance the experience...

Did you really just use three games without online to pick as examples as to why voice chat is bad?

Yes I did. To show you that voice chat wasn't necessary back then and it isn't now. Even in the big shooters today people usually end up muting everybody. This is just people crying about it because its Nintendo.

You cant see me, but I am facepalming so hard right now. @ryno1179back me up here lol

"This is just people crying about it because its Nintendo", on the contrary I think this is you defending it because it is nintendo. You cant honestly be comparing local multiplayer to online, and people mute players in cod and battlefield cause there is no strategy involved, splatoon could have been better cause it offers the chance for strategy and not random spraying.

@lord_magikarp: What i find funny is those that have never played the game crying that it doesnt have voice chat. Nintendo uses world servers, they doent need to make a game that requires people to communicate. Its better to make a game that can be universally enjoyed by the whole world. People need to stop hating and start appreciating.

First point, have played. Second point, how does voice chat make the game less universally enjoyed? Lets be honest Nintendo doesnt have the best knowledge of how online operates

@iandizion713:

you do realize that the way things work in 2015, they can pair people who are close together so that they can understand each other and have a better connection to each other. The reason why I think voice chat is important is for the ranked mode they are suggesting, for casual play I dont really mind as much even though it really should be included.

@lord_magikarp: Voice chat would be purdy cool, but i dont think it will hurt Splatoons competitive team based style one bit. I would even go as far to say that hardly anyone will be using Ipods, Iphones, Ipads, or any other devices to communicate with each other in this game. I dont think they will even notice it missing.

Flop. No voice chat. Can't customize rule settings. I didn't care about the game before, and now with all the new info, this is a definite no-play for me.

Apparently a few people are going to miss it... You can't really call it a strategic game if you arent even coordinating with your team, its really just do your own thing and it happens that some other people are spraying your colour of ink...

@lord_magikarp: You really cant say you cant coordinate with your team, i think your trying to spoon feed competitive players way to much, competitive players dont and never have needed voice chat. Only game i think i know of that requires voice chat to play is maybe Socom III? People have brains, they can figure stuff out without having to be told how to do it. Yes, its true you cant scream at your team mates for not doing what you want, youll have to be a big boy and deal with it.

Except almost every online team based game has communication, "People have brains, they can figure stuff out without having to be told how to do it" is a cop out answer. How can adding a feature be considered a bad thing, being able to talk with teammates would make the game more interesting as new strategies can emerge instead of a rinse and repeat style of game.

@lord_magikarp: And yet not being able to talk to teammates can also make the game more enjoyable. If you want to chat with people in a game then it might be best to play a voice chatting game. This wont be one, and most competitive online games dont need to be anyway. We are coming into a new age, we are uniting with the world, voice chat would only limit our coming together.

I have the solution to the problem, a mute button and local pairing. Your welcome world (and yes most competitive online games need voice chat)

@lord_magikarp: I have a better solution, build the game to not need voice chat. Problem solved, world peace accomplished. If you want voice chat, go play a voice chat game. Its really that easy.

I cant believe your defending nintendo on this backwards programming. Its a feature thats common now and the fact nintendo doesint have it makes zero sense. Its also pretty pathetic on their side as well.

@finalfantasy94: If the game is released and Nintendo fans come to a conclusion that Voice Chat is required to experience the fair play then i will happily support their petition. So far we have two petitions that want to add voice chat, one has 71 supporters, the other 14. If it gets close to 10k signatures i also will support my Nintendo fans in their petition. But so far, they are enjoying it for what it is and are not complaining about lack of voice chat. This leads me to believe that voice chat would not help Splatoon much.

Time to get over and move past no voice chat. There's plenty of other things involving Splatoon to discuss besides obsessing over that one issue.

end of the day its basic function and its pretty sad that nintendo is so behind online that they dont have said basic function.

Bumping this because:

1. It's coming out soon-ish.
2. To let you know that another testfire happens this Sunday.
3. There's an Iwata Asks interview about the game, and those are always cool.

I'm probably in the minority but the more I watch this game, the more I want it. Gameplay look really tight.

For all the dumbasses asking for voice chat in Splatoon, how do you imagine that would play out?
As good as in COD? Because fucking good riddance.
