I feel bad for people hyping this game. Funny how I was able to look at this game back at last year's E3 and I was asking over and over again how the gameplay is amazing since all we saw was quick execution kills and animation at the time that wasn't as good as Assasin's Creed 2 and Uncharted 2. I got attacked for doing so and now the demo comes where a lot of people weren't impressive. I'm not saying that this game will be terrible, but I will say the the gameplay definitely didn't look amazing. I have yet to try the demo, but I'm sure that will confirm what I've been assuming about the game.

I just hope that people aren't hyping it because it's an Xbox 360 exclusive and it's something fresh relative to the other 360 games like MW2 rather than it being actually being a very good AAA game. If Mass Effect 2 gets a 9.0 only, then I can't see Splinter cell getting that score based on what I've seen from it (yes, I know they are different genres).

[QUOTE="Ninja-Bear"][QUOTE="Mestitia"] And tetris is a better puzzle game. MGS is a lot more then just stealth.Hahadouken
That's exactly why they shouldn't be compared. The whole MGS vs Splinter Cell debate is just silly, because MGS isn't a stealth game.

Except that you can stealth the entire game in MGS4. You cannot in Splinter Cell. Sounds more like a stealth game to me.

The definition of stealth is "the act or action of proceeding furtively, secretly, or imperceptibly". You can be stealthy and kill at the same time. Obviously, its all about not getting caught.

[QUOTE="Hahadouken"] And again I disagree. MGS4 is a better STEALTH game than SC:CT, and I think the whole co-op/multiplayer thing in SCCT was an abortion. You don't have to agree with me. I thought the game was junk compared to SC and SCPT.

The multiplayer in Chaos Theory was absolutely amazing. To quote several metacritic reviews: 'brutal, but if you stick with it, it's easily the best multiplayer on consoles right now.' 'One of the best games i've ever played.' 'Easily the most complete xbox live experience available.' 'If there's a more comprehensive experience on the xbox i'd like to play it.' I honestly doubt you've ever even played the game's competitive multiplayer if you're seriously going to say it doesn't feature stealth. Two spies have to reach a certain point in the map while First-person shooting mercenaries try to stop them. The spies are equipped with no weapons. It's about as stealth-oriented a multiplayer game as you could possibly get. MGS4 is not a stealth game. You can get through it avoiding the enemies, but that's not what i call stealth. Splinter Cell is a true espionage game where the enemies are positioned and TRYING to find you or stop you getting through. MGS4 is a game where you just need to know where to roll and which building to go into to avoid pre-determined enemy locations.

I have the special ability to watch gameplay video and make a accurate assessment of how the games gamelay will be. I know I sound arrogant and ridiculous, but consider that I've been able to do this with virtually every big game that has come out that I've gotten the chance to play after. There are certain games that you know just scream quality and improvement when you see them in motion. AC II gameplay looked improved and based on interviews, they said that they improved on everything. Look at the score it got. I'm just good at calling these things. I don't really care if I'm wrong about Splinter Cell either. I just call it as I see it. I'm not going to go and try to damage control if this game was to get a AAA. Notice how I clearly said that "I'm not saying this game will be terrible"

Isn't there one part in the original Splinter cell where it's impossible to stealth it?

Although according to your sig you're playing it on the PS2 which is a shame; the PS2 and gamecube versions were usually nerfed ports of the xbox and PC versions which were much better.

I cant remember the whole of the first game. There are story-based moments where you have to do certain things which might not be totally stealthy.

It has the same stealth mechanics as Splinter Cell. Enemies react to sound as well, not just cone of vision. Have you played MGS4? You can get through the entire level in MGS4 without a single alert, I should know since I beat the game with 0 alerts to unlock something. What other misinformation regarding MGS4 do you have? Again you forget, Splinter Cell is not some cherished item that only a few of you have access to. I'VE PLAYED THEM, all except Double Agent, and there is hardly an argument to be made that "AI with a pre-fixed cone of vision" is worse than AI that walks in a predetermined pattern at a predetermined time. AI in both games reacts to distractions and audio cues, both games can be stealthed through. Both games have a pile of gadgetry you can employ to stealth through the game. The one thing I give SC over MGS is shooting out the lights.

Meh, the version I have is fine especially for the price I got it for. However, I have made it a priority to get the other games on xbox and 360.

The PS2 port of SC is just fine. There is more of a gap between versions of Pandora Tomorrow, and a HUGE gap between versions of Chaos Theory.

you should get chaos theory on the xbox though. it's 94 at metacritics whereas the ps2 port is somewhere in the low 80s.

I still think it will get a 9.0(AAA), 8.5(AA) the lowest it will get. I didnt play the demo but i like the direction its going, even though it looks nothing like a splinter cell game anymore. I loved every splinter cell game with the exception of double agent, the forumla for the past games was getting old, i wish they could have freshened it up a little differently, but its nice to see a change in the series none the less.

I'm guessing half the people here didn't use the sticky cams, portable emps, emp grenades, flash bangs and frags right?

I hate it when people say they've dumbed it down when there are clearly plenty of different ways to go through the game.

And for those who were saying non-lethal takedowns, what exactly were you expecting after you saw the huge amount of videos of conviction which started LAST E3. None of them had non-lethal takedowns. And like I showed in the first link, you can do full stealth. THERE IS EVEN A MODE ON CO-OP WHICH GIVES GAME OVER ONCE YOU ARE SPOTTED.

For the love of god please tell me you are joking? It forces you to kill the first three people, theres no way around it, you know why? ITS A TUTORIAL to show you the mark and execute feature. You know like in a lot of games' tutorials where the game doesn't proceed until you have done something specific???? You can't even move during when aiming for the mark and execute for the first three guys.

I'll be watching closely to see how this game does here. If Uncharted 1 was able to get a 8.0, 3 years ago, then this game better deliver an experience just as immersive and fun as Uncharted did. Also, this game is suppose to be longer, so there's more upside.

I hope we've learned that these additions don't automatically boost points. Uncharted 1 was able to get around an 88 on metacritic and there are some multiplayer games today on metacritic, which don't even have a score that high..

If they are good additions, it should be reflected in the score. Uncharteds single player was so good, it was able to score highly with that alone.

[QUOTE="Hahadouken"] It has the same stealth mechanics as Splinter Cell.

I have played all of the Metal Gear Solids from start to finish. What's with system wars immediately questioning whether people have played something when they dont agree with you lately? :? I'm not saying MGS4 is a bad game. I think MGS3 is by far the best in the series, but 4 was very enjoyable too. But it's simply not a stealth game. To play the campaign in Chaos Theory from start to finish and to then jump into MGS4 and conclude that it is better (or even nearly close) in terms of stealth gameplay is just bizarre. Heck, Kojima himself seems determined not to call it a stealth game but 'tactical espionage action.' Dont get me wrong, while MGS4 was full of action you could CHOOSE to play more stealthily if you desired, but even then it's not Splinter Cell. The AI in MGS4 is very robotic and stylised, whereas in Splinter Cell they're far dangerous if they discover you. In MGS an alarm basically goes off and they run around in a pre-arranged pattern making half-hearted attempts to find you until the alarm goes off. Heck, MGS doesn't have any form of light/dark gameplay whatsoever. Splinter Cell is all about taking out lights and staying in the shadows.
