I watched Ep.7 with a huge group (they seemed happy), but I left quietly unimpressed. I didn't want to rain on anyone's parade. I've been through this with the last trilogy, people eventually come to their senses...it just may take a few years. We were pumped man! It felt like it was Episode 10 or something? Marketing wins the battle for the elusive "VII".
It was still SUPER predictable right from the get go (and I had no media hints due to my self imposed media blackouts). I also have a few other issues with the "heroes" and "villains" in that I found them all really lame. At least it's set up for something interesting in the future (one can hope), but I wish they would have put more into this movie instead of holding back and making subpar cinema. It was okay is the best I can say.
I've always felt J.J. is overrated, but now it seems after Trek and Wars...J.J. Abrams seems to deliver what the masses want and that's good for Disney at the end of the day. He also retreads a lot of material.
Reminds me of how I felt waiting in line for 12 hours to see Episode 1 back in the day. I liked the movie a bit more than Episode 1, I'll give it that. Ep.7 was just too bland, but people waited a long time for this, so I am happy for those that find bliss with this long, long awaited SW movie. I wish I could join them. I got the Star Wars swag and memorabilia across decades. I own those crazy lightsabers...maybe the next one will redeem this one. I already read J.J. won't be helming it which is a plus for me.
