So, I reached the ending of MGS5 again. I feel like the shittiness of chapter 2 is hugely exaggerated. Sure, you have to repeat some content, but in my experience, it was like only like three missions. Not sure if they fixed that post-release or something, but You can easily rush through them if you dislike them. I didn't mind revisiting those older missions, especially with new abilities and equipment. Not to mention, you are still getting significant story content after each mission. You can listen to some of those new tapes when you're on an older mission, and that's pretty much what I did. The only grindy part of Chapter 2 is recusing those stupid kids, that's the only part I truly disliked.
Overall, the game is still amazing. I think the story is fine, however, I think the stretch from mission 12-30 is very sparse in story content. The gameplay is still great, but very little happens in the actual story between all those missions. It's definitely not paced well at all. They probably should have introduced Code Talker much earlier in the story. I don't understand why he's introduced at the end of chapter 1. He has a lot of interesting tapes about the parasites and language, but they shove all of that content into chapter 2. At the very least, they probably should have made a few missions in chapter 1 optional. I don't wanna say that any of the chapter 1 content is padding. I simply don't think every mission in that game needs be mandatory.
It's a flawed masterpiece, if they reworked the content slightly, I doubt it would be getting such a huge negative reaction from fans.
