All PC beggers are happy, one down 2 more to go.
Arguments like this generally go along the line of "if you're a console gamer", and note that PC gaming is very expensive. I never understood that argument, because personally I am not someone who restricts myself to playing on any one type of device or form factor. I own a very good PC not just for gaming purposes, but because there are many tangible benefits to owning a fast PC with a lot of RAM and a solid state drive.
Nobody owns a gaming PC for the sole purpose of playing Xbox One games. There's so many other reasons why people should consider investing in PC gaming this gen; too many to list here, but the advantages are well known and discussed here on SW, not least of which is the fact that it is the platform with the most exclusives and the only platform with multigenerational BC built into it. Most people own a PC by default, even if they don't own a gaming PC.
To me, it's not the PC but the *console* that needs to justify its purchase. And I know I'm not the only gamer who thinks along these lines - we are part of the real world too. And for people like me, the Xbox One fails to present itself as a compelling purchase, much like the Vita and PSTV do due to lack of compelling exclusive content.
Now of course I'm fine with that because it means I can avoid purchasing another device! But it does dilute the Xbox brand. It does provide less compelling reasons to own the device when you can play almost every game on it better on PC. While that is true for the majority of the PS4 library as well, PS4 looks like a device that will eventually justify its ownership to me and many others because it seems on track to delivering compelling exclusive content that can't be played anywhere else. And for the content it does share with PS3 and Vita, the PS4 has the best version of the game.
Again, you have to still admit that console gaming in general is alive and well.. Sales of both the Xbox One and PS4 are at an all time high and the growth seems to be continuing at an alarming rate.. I said that to say this:
Just because a person CAN build a PC to play the absolute best versions of games, doesn't mean they WILL.. a person who prefers to play on consoles will simply buy and play on console without giving the PC a second thought.. Especially if cost is remotely a factor.. Sure the PC is an amazing platform with many uses beyond gaming but the plain and simple truth is that unless you're specifically building a PC for gaming, you're typically not going to have a PC laying around the house that's capable of running Quantum Break..
And that being said, a unified ecosystem of XB1/PC games means that dedicated console gamers who really want to play Quantum Break are going to potentially buy an Xbox One instead of a PS4.. plus, for developers, the combined install base of Windows 10 will keep those kinds exclusives coming to XB1/Win10 for the foreseeable future..
Dedicated PC gamers will continue to play on PC and enjoy the extra games.. And as a PC gamer, no matter if you want to expand your Windows 10 footprint with cross-platform benefits by getting an Xbox One to compliment your PC or get a PS4 solely for their console exclusives, you're still helping to support Windows 10 gaming no matter if you go PC/XB1 or PC/PS4.. There's absolutely no way to spin this into a negative beyond silly "System Wars" rationales.. In the real world, this is an awesome power move by Microsoft..
Microsoft, PC gamers, Xbox One gamers, and Windows 10 developers all win..
Bottomline: A shared ecosystem between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC means less exclusives for X1 and a reason to own one,
Yes, if you prefer to game on a PC... but some people can't seem to grasp the fact that a lot of people, like me, would rather game on a console.
Anyway, as an owner of only an Xbox One, I have zero problems with games coming out on PC as well. It doesn't affect me in the slightest. And I really don't understand why fellow Xbone gamers would care about it either? If more copies are sold, then maybe it'll allow for better & more games in the future.
Cows and sheep are really gonna feel left out when these games hit the X1/PC all the time and they're all discussed and hyped on GS between lems and their cousins the herms. Good stuff. :P
Yea man they are going to feel so left out not being able to play a casual 3rd person shooter.
Just waiting for Phil to announce all future games will also come to PC, can't wait for GS to crash.
the bruhaha coming from this QB annoucement might end up being more entertaining than the game itself

Or they go to gen leading PS4 like almost 2:1 people have.
I already owned a gaming PC before I purchased the Xbone. I bought the Xbone because it had a more appealing library than the PS4 and I wanted to play Halo 5. I never would have bought it if they were releasing all of their new exclusives on the PC day one a year ago. That said, this news doesn't upset me at all. I've already spent the money. Why in the world would I be upset about Microsoft adding value to the games they sell me by letting me play them on the PC?
It doesn't bother me I just wish I'd known they were going to pull this shit before I bought an Xbox One. I had this really stupid idea it was going to have its own exclusives I couldn't play on PC, you know, like PS4.
Current gen platforms as it stands: PC, PS4 (shit PC with tons of great exclusives), Xbox One (just a really shit PC), Wii U (junk hardware console but at least it has its own exclusives).
The only hardware combos that make sense are PC/PS4 or PC/WII U if kids games are more your thing. Xbox One all but completely pointless now.
i'll refer you back to items 2 and 3 of the OP, but in the case of TL;DR:
if you already own a PS4 and would like to play XB1/PC exclusives, buying an Xbox One for those games is still the most fiscally logical option for most gamers. If you already own a high-end gaming PC and are interested in owning a console as well, then it boils down to personal preference..
Do you want to pay $350 for the few PS4 exclusives that aren't also coming to PC or do you want to spend $350 for an Xbox One that takes advantage of universal cross-buy/cross-save features for "buy once, play wherever" connectivity in addition to the other cross-platform benefits already available and planned in the future.. I may prefer the latter where as you may prefer the former.. but in either case, the PC/XB1 combo makes perfect sense: One unified platform where your games are "your games" and you can play them seamlessly across devices.
Did you even read what I posted? I have a PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Why do I need an Xbox One? There are loads of games coming for PS4 that I will want to play day one there a LOT more than 'a few' exclusives. For Xbox One? Nothing. Maybe Gears 4 but I will wait for the announcement that it is coming to PC too and you know it will happen.
Cross platform, cross save lolz, suddenly we all want two copies of every game for two platforms... right. And why the **** would I want to play games seamlessly across devices, one version being shit and the other one great. I'll just play the PC versions thanks.
Currently PS4 is a better console than the X1 with more games and genuine exclusives and as a PC owner I now can buy Xbox One games without needing to own an Xbox One. Like I said, Xbox One is now completely and utterly pointless on every level. I wonder how much I'll get for mine.
In the end, if you buy games like Quantum Break and maybe eventually Gears 4 on PC, that means you're running a Win10/DX12 rig.. which means that not only are you supporting the unified Windows 10 gaming platform, youre also supporting XB1/PC exclusives.. and Xbox One gamers like myself say "thank you".. that's the beauty of a unified Windows 10 gaming platform..
Feel free to sell your XB1 and enjoy Windows 10 PC gaming experience along with your PS4.. It's still a win for the overall Win 10 ecosystem :-) A wider reach means more players, more sales, more support for both PC gamers and Xbox One gamers.. a total win/win for developers and consumers alike..
You're obsessed with this ecosystem crap which in real world terms means absolutely nothing. I have been a PC gamer for many years because I love PC's and I love gaming on them, nothing to do with ecosystem shit. And you are wrong it does not mean more sales, for Xbox One it means LESS sales because PC gamers have absolutely zero need for an Xbox One now. PC gamers who may have bought an Xbox One for QB and then picked up Halo MCC and Halo 5 etc won't bother now as the game they want is coming to their own system.
I honestly can't work out if you're trolling or just plain stupid. Anyway, like I said, I don't really care my only gripe is buying an Xbox One at all in the first place it is now a joke product.
Also, forget their crap PC port for QB you don't need a high end PC to play games at a level that's 50 times superior to playing the same games on Xbox One. I actually wonder if the rec specs they put out for QB which they have since amended was an attempt to save face after offloading another Xbox One 'exclusive' on to PC and wanting to make out like it needs the best PC money can buy to play the damned thing.
They are so full of shit.
If you are a console player only then you buy an Xbox because you like the games it offers. Same for the ps4. A lot of console gamers have no idea what games are on the PC. It doesn't matter to them.
Now if you have the interest and means to own a PC then yeah if the "Xbox games" that interest you are on the PC you don't really need a Xone. Doesn't change the fact that if you are looking at the two consoles as your gaming platform you go with what has the library you like.
A console player and diehard Street Fighter player isn't going to run out and build/buy a PC to play SFV if they want a console and that game, they will buy a PS4. Same goes for a console gamer who likes QB or Gears or whatever game that is PC and Xbox.
I'm not arguing library preference here and who has the better console library. Just that if someone is comparing the consoles and had no interest in PC gaming it won't matter if those games are on both platforms. Now if you game on PC then yeah that influences your console choice too.
I own all current systems and a great PC. Honestly after UC4 I'm done with PS4, after Crackdown I'm done with Xone. I'll keep the systems for a bit to see if anything catches my eye, neither one is really putting out anything special to me, but I'll most likely be PC/Nintendo only here pretty soon.
Only big reason I think a shared ecosystem between Xbox and PC would be terrible, is because of cross platform multiplayer.
I don't even own an Xbox One or gaming PC, so this doesn't really pertain to me, just my thoughts.
LOL, lems and their damage control.
Less exclsuives on Xbone means less reason to own one. All the mental gymnastics and damage control in the world will not change this fact. Fact remains, that I get the option to play better versions of all the games lemmings have been hyping for years and I don't own an Xbone and never will.
PC and PS4 is the only combination the hardcore gamer needs. Xbone is a poor man's PC.
Lems = Rekt.
This. And lol at TC lying about how much it costs to build a capable PC. He's completely clueless.

You do realize that Microsoft makes money on the games being sold for the system and not the system itself right? They probably make more money per copy of the game sold on PC than they do per Xbox One sold in stores.
@Antwan3K If we filter out all the anger and the silliness, its actually a valid argument against xboxone console. This doesn't hurt MS, but for some people valid question about if they need or needed the xboxone are there. It doesn't matter if this was ps4 or wiiu. There is now a perception that everything on xboxone is eventually going to pc. This is a good thing but if I knew this I wouldn't have gotten xboxone and said thank you MS.

Of course I realise this. I'm more pissed off with myself than MS. I bought Xbox One for the Halo collection and to be fair I really liked it but was hoping there would be some great exclusives to come as well like there was with 360. I made the wrong call is what it is basically.

Yep same here. It's not the end of the world but my Xbox One has gathered dust since Halo 5 (which, rubbing salt into the wound, was shit lol). I would say the only people who have legit reasons to be annoyed at this news are PC gamers who bought an Xbox One for exclusives.

yep, youre right.. it makes total sense for your average console gamer to build a high-end PC in order to play a console game their interested in.. /s
and if you already have a PS4, and are interested in playing Quantum Break (or any future Win10/DX12 titles that will be available for both Xbox One and PC), why do cows insist that building a high-end PC (for multiple times the cost of a console) is the more viable option than simply buying an Xbox One at a fraction of the price?
if you want to play Quantum Break, just buy the $350 Quantum Break bundle, plug your new Xbox One in right next to your PS4, and enjoy.. Outside of System Wars, this is the only option that makes sense to a hardcore console gamer..
oh and by the way, buying/building a Windows 10 PC with DirectX12 (which is required to run Quantum Break) is still supporting Microsoft and the Windows 10 ecosystem, genius.. That's the beauty of this combined platform strategy.. Every PC gamer that eventually installs Windows 10, installs DirectX12, and buys XB1/PC exclusives like Quantum Break is supporting the ultimate cause of helping the continued health, viability, and success of XB1/Win10 exclusives..
Thanks for your endorsement sir..
You don't need a high end PC to get games that run better than an Xbone. A mid-range PC will obliterate the Xbone performance considering how shit the Xbone hardware is.
I built my PC for work and play, if the PS4 had all its exclusives on PC I wouldn't bother owning it either. The Xbone as it stands is a redundant piece of shit if you already own a PC, PS4 still has exclusives that justify its existence to me.
But if you compare PC only gamers and Xbone only gamers, PC gamers are getting the benefits and Xbone gamers aren't.
Why can't PC only games start coming to Xbone too so both sides get the benefit of the shared platform/ crossplay?

I did not know that. Second no need to be rude. So they changed the settings. Something does not smell right about that and might not be optimized right. I got a Batman feel about this port.

Apologies for my rudeness. Yea, they changed the recommended specs yesterday.
I doubt it will be a shitty port. This game is supposed to be helping MS sell Windows 10 copies.
Its amazing that because of this announcement the Xbox One is magically useless but the PS4 isn't? So the reason people game on consoles is because the games are not on PCs? But then why do console games still sell better than their PC counter parts especially since PC gaming has the POTENTIAL to be a better experience than console gaming? Could it be that people simply like to play games on consoles? Is that concept that alien that it incomprehensible? Or is that fanboy logic is too strong and reasoning cannot break the chains of arrogance?
The reality whether folks want to accept it or not, is that this is the INEVITABLE future of gaming. Any company that doesn't embrace this model is GOING TO FAIL.

The reality whether folks want to accept it or not, is that this is the INEVITABLE future of gaming. Any company that doesn't embrace this model is GOING TO FAIL.
I think the point is that XBox has been pointless since 2010 and a select hand full of posters are finally getting in on an argument that was lost years ago. Like somehow resurrecting this dead horse will make it win the race or something.

Your comment is silly. Its "useless" to YOU but not the the millions that has purchase it. Your tunnel vision is not the reality. This strategy is a strategy that Sony will have to face in the future whether they want to or not.
Sony has been losing money for seven years straight. They need to shake up things or they might go under in the next five years. First they need to realize the PC is not their enemy. They could make so much money on porting old PS3 games to the PC. I could see The Last of US selling lots of copies on the PC. That could drive sells of a sequel on the PS4 or PS5. If they don't see that the future is the PC they are going to start to decline like Nintendo is right now.

I think Sony is already facing it and laughing to the bank. MS are the ones sabotaging their console with this kind of strategy. Sony is not competing with MS on the PC side so whether or not MS provides more games for PC gamers doesn't concern them. Every time Xbone loses an exclusive it loses a piece of its identity and a reason to own one.

So you think that Sony is the last one standing? lol

Sony... laughing all the way to the bank. Come on. Lets be serious. MS is not sabotaging their consoles. They are doing something that should have been done the moment both platforms were running Windows 10. This strategy is more of a threat to Sony gaming division because MS can effectively command a larger market share of gamers than Sony by creating a unified platform that ranges from PCs, consoles to mobile devices. If you cannot see this then you are simply choosing to be ignorant.

Yea, Sony is running this entire gen. Outselling Xbone 2 to 1 worldwide and increasing. None of their major exclusives are on PC either.
Nintendo is also standing too even though their lack of 3rd party and shit hardware is a disaster for them.
@Pedro: The pc has been performing better than xbox in game sales even ROTR sold more its first week on pc than it did on the xbox one during the holidays. MS probably see that putting a new ip on just one platform won't generate the revenue they need.

Thanks for the laugh.
@abtoxin: MS didn't do this because of ROTR. That is equally silly. This was the entire purpose of Windows 10 to begin with. It was proposed last E3 or even further back. It is also why Valve was trying to push their SteamOS because they know this was coming and that the Windows Store and the MS ecosystem can be their first real competition.

Unified platform? Wut? Since when did gaming need unified platforms? Are you suggesting all Xbox One owners will run out and buy a PC and PC owners will run out and buy an Xbox One because they both use W10?
I own both and only bought the Xbox One for its exclusives which now officially don't exist. It's okay though because apparently both are now 'unified' WTF seriously listen to yourself.
Thanks for the laugh.
Its not good to laugh at things that are true. Don't wory Sony will try to conjure some last minute BS when the fire gets to intense. Even Nintendo is making the move.
I think the only fanboys damage control is just Xbox One gamers themselves. Ever since QB PC announcement, Xbox One gamers lost there shit over this just the fact that they got embarrass that there console lost another exclusive to justify there console purchase, that's what the issue is, not Sony fanboys. [well few I guess SW standards]
For me personally, I own all current-gen consoles & PC but however, I tend to game more on consoles then my PC and MS is definitely doing the right thing, it's giving more options to gamers but at the same time, it's a big deal to Xbox One owners that they felt betrayed and are embarrass from Sony fanboys. ether way, I been using Windows 10 for almost a year now, it has been very good to me but I'll still use my Xbox One console for just other stuff such as doing my reviews and now that games are coming to be Windows 10, I can do the reviews for both now.

Not saying it was because of ROTR. MS probably didn't believe a new IP like QB would generate the revenue they wanted so they needed another source. Its coming Day one on pc so its clearly a sign they want to make as much money as possible. Window 10 may also be another reason as well but they been advertising the game as a xbox one for a long time.

Yeah MS is pushing Windows 10 for the next six months. In July the free upgrade ends.

I think its funny that someone's pride would be tied up in their system having exclusive games. The price of these systems are so much more within reach than ever before that the idea that fanboys still exist with such zeal is astonishing. I am happy camper because I can game on either one system with just one game purchase.
Agree with most of the OP except perhaps the 2K range for the PC because I think you could get a gaming rig for a little cheaper, but I haven't done much research on that subject recently, and I certainly agree that a gaming rig is more expensive than an Xbox One.
Every time I see a hardcore Sony supporter blast this move I laugh, because the mindset here is if you are celebrating something that you think is nice for the Xbox One, you are immediately perceived by them as you thinking the Xbox One has the upper hand now against the PS4. I cannot speak for other Xbox fans, but for me I don't care at all about the PS4 when I think of this, I'm simply thinking of my situation.
Yesterday, when I got home from work I pre-ordered QB and the only difference compared to before is that I will also receive the game for free on Windows 10, so for me yesterday I got something extra(in addition to 2 other 360 BC games, another cool little bonus that was downplayed by the Sony supporters, but that is another topic).
I don't even have a Win 10 PC now, my PC recently broke down and later in the year I will be getting one, and I might as well spend a few $ more to get a mid-range gaming PC. I don't want to game on PC really, I mostly do work on it but even for that purpose I like having a powerful PC for speed, and II can think of scenarios where I could play games if someone else is using my TV for instance, I'll just hop on the Win 10 version and resume from I left off earlier since saves are shared. Some people will benefit from this more than others of course. Maybe if I get a Win 10 Laptop or Surface pro 3 then this would allow me to sometimes play my Xbox One games in a secondary location as well, if I am not home, etc.
I just see it as a plus and in no way do I think this is harming the Xbox One, as you said many people just prefer gaming on consoles and will get the console. Furthermore, this is not really something new for MS, because I see people saying MS did this only because they are lagging behind Sony. Maybe so, but I don't think so, I have a Surface tablet and a Windows phone and one of the things I like is your profiles are synched across your Hotmail profile. For me , this cross play thing is similar to that in the sense that your Work/Games go with you from one device to another.
Anyways, it will take time to see the ripple effect of this and how it will impact gamers and how many games will support it, will they do it with Halo 5 and Forza for instance. We shall see soon enough.
