I think everyone here has totally different opinions about what it is to be a badass.

In my mind, a badass is someone cool, calm and collected - not a psychotic/angsty butcher. If you get in his way, he'll simply kill you, without resorting to any over-the-top acrobatics or corny one-liners - in fact, he probably won't even talk much at all because he's just that badass. That rules out most of the characters listed here.

Of course, he also has to have a personality, so that rules out silent characters like Freeman and Link.

As for my personal 'top badass'...hmm...possibly Geralt, or maybe even 47.

Man everything Marcus Fenix says and does is so lame. He tries so hard to be cool but he looks and sounds like such a douchebag all the time. I actually laugh when he tries to sound knowledgable too "They're called Theron Guards!" He's such a tool.

Dante (First game to make the user truly feel like a superhuman acrobatic shooting badass imo), Snake (From Kojima's Games, Not SILICON KNIGHTS Snake), and Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII) are in my tops.

There's not really a worst for me, but I guess If I had to choose, Master Chief. I don't buy it. It seems forced, and He lacks any type of personality I would qualify as badass. I NEVER felt like he was a badass in any of the games, although I did think that it was real stupid when he jumped outside in space, holding onto crap, that was supposed to be badass, but I thought it was plain dumb. He guided a "bomb" in space? Okay :roll:

I also didn't like Solid Snake in the GAMECUBE remake of Metal Gear, he was jumping off missiles, and it seemed real animeish.

Also, Sam Fisher, he just seems like a complete spoof/clone.

Still, fun games all around.

Fair enough. I just seem to find the best characters on Sony consoles I suppose. I love the games that all of these characters come from, however.

You can't guide bombs in space, that's just plain dumb. That whole sequence was so bad, I had a party later, and popped the game in and 20+ of us all laughed at how stupid it was.

First off there is a reason why Marcus Fenix isn't a badass. That reason is that next to Cole Train everyone looks like a wimp. But in all seriousness how does Marcus Fenix fail at being a badass? Master Chief doesn't even try to be a badass.

Alright, I have something to say. Kratos is the BEST badass in gaming history because he is a whiner. His evident emotion keeps him from being completely flat and stale like Marcus or Nathan Hale. Still, he rips people apart and kills mercilessly if it means he gets closer to his goal. Guys, he challenges the father of all the Gods. How many God fathers have you challenged recently?

If burly and grizzled are the requirements for being a "badass" then every muscly dude wins. Being badass has a lot more to do with you actions and catch-phrases than it does being big and dirty. Dante is pretty much the epitome of what I believe to be "badass." Fenix is just a grizzled soldier dude with a one-dimensional personality.foxhound_fox
