Talk about a contradicting display of an argument. You are aware that Duke has Steroids right? And American's how do you know Fenix is American? Does America even exist in the Gears of War Universe? Marcus Santiago???

Not saying that Duke isn't a badass but your reasons aren't compelling as Duke has proven the usage of steroids does not affect ones badassness. That and its not even proven the Gears guys take roids.

Very stereotyped character in the movies (low-life detective) but one of the most badass game characters around.

Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)
On a mission to avenge his clan slashin his way and killing oversized monsters = Badass

Cole Train (gears of war)
Whooo! I'm in the zone baby! = nuffsaid;)

Mario
the guy is STILL around to kick bowsers butt. He never gets tierd to do the same stuff over and over and over again. ;)

I think we can all agree there is nothing more badass than the Falcon Punch.

I don't get where people are coming from when they say Kratos isn't badass because he's a whiner.

Kratos doesn't whine. Kratos doesn't beg. When he was on death's door, he demanded power from Ares, and the God of War complied. When he had issues, he didn't curl up in a corner and cry, he went around killing everything (a god included) until he could get peace. And when he couldn't, and he became the God of War himself, he continued wrecking things. 

He's fought his way out of Hades on multiple occasions. He doesn't utter snarky one-liners, but lets his actions speak for him. Nothing will stand in the way of Kratos achieving his goals. If he is messed with or attacked, he will fight until whoever was foolish enough to underestimate him no longer breathes, by whatever means necessary. He converts his pain into strength, instead of succumbing to weakness. 

If you want to see a whiny so-called 'badass', look no further than Mr. "It rained the day I was born," MGS4's Raiden.

My own personal problem with Kratos isn't that he's a whiner; it's the fact that I feel that his badass-ness is so overdone that it borders on the ridiculous.

 WORST 

This guy was the most annoying charcter ever in Animal Crossing. He tried to act like a boss with his axe but he wouldn't do anything, he just ***** and moan all day how you turned off your gamecube too early but he wouldn't stop you from doing it. All talk and no game.

Cole Train and Duke Nukem are just way too overly cheesey.

There was this really old game, cant remember the name of it. But it was about a Swords Man that was SO BADASS Death Challenged him to a Duel and lost. You then become immortal or something like that, and you couldn't die in the game you could only be "Defeated".

 I would have so say this guy is the biggest badass. I think this game was on the old 16bit Sega.

I agree with Kratos being the best badass, he just rips apart and murders everyone he meets. Including Gods. Marcus Fenix is a bland meathead who tries too hard to be cool and Nathan Hale is pretty dull. They are insects compared to the God of War.Floppy_Jim

I own and have beaten every DMC thus far. Including the original DMC3.

Oh snap. I guess you have had a change of hearts over the last 7 years. Props for beating the non-greatest hits DMC3, not many people here in SW, back then, could do it (and when the GH version hit, I remember many making threads bragging about their skillz, and having to explain they bought the easy version of the game.).

At least you have given an expert opinion (Someone who's played and beaten it), I was blown away back then, and it stuck for me.

best in no particular order:

- Kratos (who else can say they've defeated gods, died, eascaped from hades itself, re-written history etc).

- Kazuya Mishima (his demonic left eye is so cool, he got thrown into a volcano and survived, and is just cool in how he acts)

- Solid/Naked Snake (the most badass soldiers in gaming history)

worst in no particular order:

- Master Chief (no personality WHATSOEVER)

- Marcus Fenix (typical brain-dead scarface who solves his problems by chainsawing them in half)

- Nathan Hale (if he was designed to be a badass, then that failed, miserably)

The best:

Joanna Dark (from Perfect Dark)- Stealthy, sassy, great with weapons of all kinds.

Starkiller (from Force Unleashed)- Awesome force power level, hellish childhood.

James Bond (Pierce Brosnan version from Goldeneye 007)- Do I really need to explain on why Bond is badass?

Fox McCloud (from Star Fox)- Great pilot, leads a flight squadron, and great at melee and firearms weapons

Falco Lombardi (also from Star Fox)- pretty much same reasons as Fox, but is a bit more of a smartmouth, and can throw his deflector in Super Smash Bros.

The Worst:

Heavy (from Team Fortress 2)- Too slow.

Black Shadow (from F-Zero)- Not that good in racing, no wonder Falcon always beats him.

Alot of people are listing characters in there worst badass section who were never meant tobe badass.

Few characters are, Kratos is one badass who fails completely.

Marcus Fenix works, but barely.

Duke Nukem is the badass they all look up to. He reeks of sterotypical American brutishness.
