all of these are IMO

I think ppl are forgetting one simple fact about Kratos, He's killing the GODS. He's not killing any emo vampires, werewolves, little green aliens with zapper guns, big green aliens with zapper guns, spiders, giant grasshoppers, oversized spiky turtles, ghost, ghouls, or goblins. He's killing GODS. Now where were we? oh yea.....

Geralt is the most badass character in existance.

Although FF versus XIII is not released yet, the mafia looking guy in the trailer looks badass :P

The Good:

Max. Easily the best badass. One of the few characters with a true motive to be a homicidal maniac.

The Bad:

"10 **** tonnes" of fail

The Ugly:

The strong/silent types, as much as I love all of the above games, the characters are typically Clint Eastwood wanabees. I'm more likely to empaphise with a brilliant character like Max Payne than idolise a silent drone like Freeman or Celebrity Master Chef.
