Hmm that's false read the books and you'll see that bungie is the main reason why master chief is how he is. The books display very good character development while still being secretive.

I'm going to have to agree with Mad_Rhetoric. Cole sound stupid and cheezy as hell. They need a new script and a new voice actor, not Lester Speight. Michael Clarke Duncan should voice as Cole Train.

My list of badass badasses who are actually badasses. I'll try to use fanart images instead of official ones since I'm sure we've already seen so many of those

Travis Touchdown-No More Heroes. Proves that sunglasses and beam swords are a good factor in determining badass.

Duke Nukem-Any Duke Nukem game in general. Need I say more?

Zengar Zonbolt-Super Robot Taisen franchise. Totally obscure, but hey, does YOUR mech have a sword so big and powerful that its primary purpose is to cut battleships in half? :P

Zack-Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core. What Cloud should have been in Final Fantasy VII.

Auron-Final Fantasy X. Once again proving that guys with trenchcoats and large swords are usually (see Sephiroth below) undeniably badass.

Cole-Gears of War series. The guy who makes Gears of War awesome to play.

My list of bad badasses who are actually not that badass at all.

Sephiroth-Final Fantasy VII. Stop crying Sephy, no one gives a damn about your mom. Prime example of a character with a large sword that actually takes away from any coolness he might've had.

Marcus Fenix-Gears of War series. Sorry Marcus, but you're just the placeholder for when we actually want to play as Cole Train. In fact, I would go as far as saying that even Dom and the Carmines (either of them, take your pick) are more badass then you. Being a gruff steroid-junkie with a gun does not make you badass. It makes you a gruff steroid-junkie with a gun. At least the other steroid junkies have personality. :P

Joshua-The World Ends With You. Okay, I can sort of understand where the badass from Sephiroth and Marcus come from. This guy however, is a complete jackass and I cannot even understand why fangirls swoon over him as the most badass RPG character that ever lived. He's a liar, a manipulative bastard, and didn't even bother trying to redeem himself in the end likemost cliche JRPG villains do.

And that's all I can think of for now concerning both lists. Keep in mind I was doing this half-seriously so FF fans, please don't flame me for insulting your precious Sephiroth. :P

YES. Sol is the epitome of badass in the figher genre. I've personally always been an Anji Mito guy myself, but in terms of being a badass, Sol takes the cake.

Best badasses -

Duke Nukem (One liners, gets the babes, and has a sweet crew cut, he's a winner)

Marcus Fenix (He's a real soldier, not some backflipping sword twirling sissy, he may be a cliche straight from the movies, but he's one of a kind when it comes to videogames, really)

Ryu Hyabusa (Nuff said)

Solid Snake (Cigs, check. Mullet, check. tight spandex, check. No, im not describing that low life from the trailer park that drives the rusted ford pick-up and smells like BO, im talking about quite possibly the most bad ass videogame character ever.)

The protaganist from Persona 3 was a badass.  It was his official title in the menu even.

Yuri from Tales of Vesperia.  The guy doesn't take s**t from anyone.

Why is Gordon Freeman on any ones list? Are people this dumb to not understand he is ment to be a avatar your self? He is not MUTE, he is suppose to be a representation of YOU. Hence why you NEVER see any out of body cutscenes, everything is taken in the first person. He never talks, because its suppose to make it feel like you are the character and you arn't controling some one that has a completely different personality.

That being said bar none the worse bad ass is Masterchief.. Because Bungie tries to make it like a Gordon Freeman character, except they have out of body scenes, and he talks all the time.. Meaning you have one of the most stupid popular characters in history, who has nothing unique about them in the least..

One of the best bad asses? Riddick for sure.

He's bad ass in both. Grimey, grizzled, tough, rugged, blood thirsty, and yeah he's gotta mouth. 

Just because people do badass things, does not mean they are badasses. To be a genuine badass, a character must not yeild to anything, i.e. the "Oh-Snappery" can never truly stop, even when the job is done.

That is why this man is the badass to end all badasses.
