I still love Liberty City, although San Andreas was kick ass - just biking up Mount Chiliad, enabling nitrous, and parachute and driving off the cliff in that hippyvan into the atmosphere, then jumping out and sky diving :P

I bought Vice City Stories at your suggestion but I'm not gonna play it until after GTA IV.

I don't want to get "sandboxed out" (as Jandurin would say) before GTA IV, and you know there's gonna be a hell of a wait between GTA IV and GTA V. VC Stories should keep me busy during the wait :)

You'll love VCS... it's awesome. Good idea not to play it before GTAIV. It's kinda weird though. I mean, I played GTA at least once a week for the past 4 or 5 years and now I haven't played it for 3 months... I think I'm dying!

To coincide with the release of GTA IV, Rockstar will be launching a brand new website called the Rockstar Social Club. Registration for the club opens up on April 15th, and it will apparently feature all kinds of multiplayer leader boards and stat tracking.

On top of the standard multiplayer ranking stuff, a press release sent out by Rockstar lists the following features:

LCPD Police Blotter - A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.

The Story Gang - This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.

The 100% Club - Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.

The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.

The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

Wasn't really looking forward to GTA IV after playing a good amount of GTA SA and being a little dissapointed. But the new trailers are getting me more and more into it.

Interesting news about the possible PS3 DLC and Home integration rumored (or confirmed). Wonder how that will pan out......................

though i am a little disappointed that IV is hardly any better looking than Saints row did.. but im sure it will be a great game anyway.

Also its a shame about the 16 player limit, hopefully it comes to PC and we get 60+ players, its not like it would strain PC's that are at least decent speed anyway.

anybody that has played san andreas multi would know 100+ players is easy without slowing down, ok i know the engine is old and looks kinda garbage compared to todays games but its still fun now and again.

i think its partially destructible u know the usual, tables break, you shoot to much at a pillar it will fall apart, cars smashing into shops etc things like that.

I've almost beat Vice City. Gotta buy one more asset, and then I think I've just got "final missions".

Turns out I almost beat it once in the past, so I just needed to beat Copland to get where I am now. I wonder why I stopped... I guess it was a somewhat difficult mission.

It's not so much content as sales/acceptance. Alot of them are saying that people label GTA as a PS game. As well as saying DLC won't make a difference since ALOT of people don't finish the game, as well as it will boost ps3 sales more than x360s etc etc they got some pretty valid points, we gotta wait and see.

Yeah, I honestly don't think the DLC will matter to those who buy GTA the most, casuals. I was talking with a kid today in one of my classes about GTA IV, and we were talking about which versions we were getting, and I was talking about the differences. I mentioned about the DLC and he had this blank stare on his face, and just kinda of ignored what I said. He had no clue about the DLC. I know it's just one person, but if he's any indicaion, then this may not be as big as M$ hoped it would be.

Yeah they also predicted that Madona wouldn't make it in the music industry. Predictions aren't really easy to make in any industry, IMO they will be pretty close, but some people would by a PS3 just to play it in this country.

I'm really wondering what GTA 4 will score here. I think it is too hard to predict this time only because Gerstmann isn't here anymore. He loved the GTA series and gave GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas 9.6 on PS2. I have no clue how the remaining GameSpot staff feel about GTA.

Well if your going to be playing online i would go with the 360 version because more users are online.

I'm still 50/50 about ps3 or 360 even though i have the 360 version preordered, i guess its because of the DLC mainly which should be episodes like HL2 ep 1 & 2 were to HL2. Ps3 = good for free online, but is that it?

I've got the main news on the 1st page... news like a rating of M or R isn't that exciting, we all knew what it would be rated. I'll always post the big things though like trailers and the new DLC stuff (which I haven't posted yet only due to the fact that it's not letting me edit still!).

The sticky's nice but the thread would have survived on its own... it's not like I get some award for a sticky. I'm happy that GTA is one of the main focuses of SW right now though, since so many people are so excited about it and it's good to discuss it, but it would be annoying if there's a new thread on it every 5 minutes.

I don't think this is true. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on when it comes to GTA4, and from all that I can gather, I think only cover is really destructible. Everything else will probably leave a realistic mark, but that's it. I'm almost 100% sure that's what the deal is. I do distinctly recall reading a hands-on where the guy said he shot a rocket into the Statue of Happiness and it didn't even leave a mark, though.

Still, that's a huge step forward for GTA4. Very few shooters, much less GTA-style sandbox games, have both a cover system and cover you can actually shoot through. I think Rainbow Six Vegas 2 might be the only game with that, actually, since CoD4 doesn't have a cover system.
