we should consider the 360 dlc to be another 360 exclusive. and a separate game as well. the dlc is 40 hours long so it sure as heck is big enough to be a separate game.nickelarcadeDo we know that now? I thought the precise length and nature of the DLC was still an unknown.

Umm no. It is part of the same game. And where are you getting the 40 hours from? I have not read that figure anywhere. Also, thinks for using the sticky. :P

Actually, we don't know how big it is. It is estimated to be around 10 hours of missions each. Notice missions, not a new map area or extra features. Missions..........
[QUOTE="skrat_01"]how's Rock Band? are you going to enjoy your censored copy, lolI just realised....
We Australians will be getting GTAIV technically a day earlier than you blokes in the US :P

I hardly doubt the censorship is going to butcher the game.
14 days and counting.
I've been waiting such a long time for this, and now that it's just 14 days away, I can barely stand the anticipation.
I must find a way to aquire an early copy. Maybe K-Mart will **** up again, Bioshock style?
I hope so too! I think they will...If not K-Mart, then definately Wal-Mart or Target will.14 days and counting.

I just hope the cheat codes still work, so after I beat the game I can activate the cheat code and go bananas.

i was wrong about the 40 hours. but an expansion is part of the same game and people consider that to be a separate game. i mean you dont see what i mean by that, if it is long enough it would be an expansion and people consider it the same game? shivering isles was an expansion and noone treated it like the same game, (not saying they treated it different. but i guess if i really wanted too i could get the pc version for the extra episodes, and we dont even know if the dlc is going to be any good or not.[QUOTE="dhjohns"][QUOTE="nickelarcade"]we should consider the 360 dlc to be another 360 exclusive. and a separate game as well. the dlc is 40 hours long so it sure as heck is big enough to be a separate game.nickelarcade

This question for some is it worth the extra $$. I for one say yes!!!

The DLC is a story arc from what R* have revealed of it. Maybe if they include new areas of the city, new weapons, new cards or something new rather than just missions, then it could be considered to be an expansion. Until then, it will just remain as DLC.
New images, click on them to go to a bigger version:
Love the blood on the windshield. :P And the particle effects from the guns firing look amazing.
Great view distance, and the lighting engine in the game is amazing. That's from the downgraded multiplayer, as well, which looks perfectly fine if you ask me.
That's the first digital image of the HUD in GTA4. The pink circle in the HUD shows the line-of-sight of the cops, and you have to get out of that circle to escape them. If they see you again, the circle re-centers back on your location and you have to get out of it again. It's pretty ingenious. Driving away from the cops is gonna be a riot.
Also that sign up there. "Westdyke Leftwood". Oh, Rockstar, you slay me.
The HUD when you're not being chased by cops. I think the green half-circle on the left is your health, while the blue one on the right is armor. On the top right, you can also see the gun you're carrying and the ammo, like in the past games (that design looks like an AK47, but I dunno).
Also check out the water that actually seems to be pooling on the ground and making puddles.
I love how minimalistic and small the HUD is. Doesn't get in the way at all.
[QUOTE="EuroMafia"]Thanks for the screens. They look really good.Zeliard9
NP, two more that popped up. The first one is multiplayer, the second looks like single-player (click for bigger):
Such an awesome explosion. Make sure you view the full version of that second pic.
I think you can see the cop radius on the hud. Really awesome. One mo (click for high res):
Looks like you can see definitely damage on Niko. Looks like someone shot him in the ass.
And ouch, a 5-star wanted level. Looks like they set up a nice police blockage. Running away from the cops is gonna be nuts at higher wanted levels.
Wow those are some really sexy screens  the thing thats cool bout em is the ammo, how it has an awesome animated version of the wep you're holding.
Btw, are they using an HP bar or damage indicator (like in Uncharted, GoW, R6:Vegas, where th screen turns different colour when you get hit and it recharges over time), cause I prefer HP bars for GTA games but I heard they might be using the damage indicator.
Thanks for the screens !

Look at the SP screens. IN the bottom left corner is the map with a circle around it. The right half, in blue, is for your armor. The left half, in green, is your health. Can't wait!! Woot woot

Well thank god they're keeping the HP bar, thanks for clearing that up :D
I've never been much of a GTA fan, but I just might have to pick this one up. Looks like a ton of fun and stuffed to the point of exploding with things to do.
P.S. Excellent thread by the way.

Yeah pick it up.....or bad things will happen
i wonder if the entire city will be open during multiplayer, on one hand it would be cool for the sake of hunting down and killing the other team, and on the other hand it would be a **** towards internet connections.
and on the other hand still, wouldnt cruising through an entire city of nothingness be kinda boring?

Multiplayer is incredibly customizable. You can section off certain parts of the map for gameplay so it centers around that area, or you can have all of Liberty City open if you want. You can also set the amount of pedestrians, traffic and cops to populate the city as much as you want, so you can have it completely empty all the way to overflowing (basically).
You can also set other things like time of day, weather, countless weapon settings, wanted levels, vehicles, etc etc etc. There's massive amounts of MP settings, supposedly. You can make it exactly like the single-player if you want, and just have you and 15 other people cruising around all of Liberty City causing havoc in Free Mode.
Btw, there's a new hands-on from Eurogamer. After reading it, my hype meter is now at the boiling point.

Yeah, GTA4's my crack, and it's not even out yet. I've probably never looked forward to a game as much. But some people are crazy enough that they're taking their vacation time at the end of the month so that they can play GTA4. I'm not quite there yet.

From the sounds of it the SWAT teams in IV will be harder then the military in older games. Yowza :?Please Log In to post.
