You don't think 1 billion is more ridiculious? Seriously, think about what the guy is saying. Knowing Xbox doesn't do well in Asain or Europe he saying he will reach 1 billion. US onlys has 300 million people. This guy really went out on a limb saying that. I rather boost up my specs than boost up my sales. At least you have control over one.

There is no ownage, so there is no damage control. If they want to sell 1 billion systems, good for them. Its incredibly stupid, but everyone has a goal. But Sony saying that every game will be 1080p was a promise

If any company has a chance at a billion people, it is Microsoft. But they would need serious global support and Japanese developers. Sony would also have to tank.

What? No, you've got it wrong. In order to be a consumer in any sense that relates to business, you must be a person who buys things. I am a consumer, but it doesn't mean I buy every product that's available; and I'm a consumer regardless of whether I buy Widget X from Company Z.Â
What's more, suppose 360's IPTV and DVR features really take off, and we start seeing multiple members of a household using it. Do you see how it could dramatically increase the number of people who can be called 360 users? I don't think MS will really reach even this goal--of having exposed a billion consumers to the use of its product--but I do think that it's a much more reasonable goal than trying to sell a billion units, which of course will never happen.

Again with the condescension, but again you are wrong. Neither of the two speakers said, "we will have 1 billion MS consumers buying a 360," or anything really like that. What they said was that they would "reach" 1 billion consumers. Gaming consumers, media consumers, electronics consumers, could be any kind of consumers, really. If you think about it, it's a very carefully-worded set of statements; they clearly avoid saying that they will sell 1 billion 360s, and they even avoid saying that the people who are exposed to 360 will all be playing games, by referring to it as "our media."

I rather say my machine is 2x greater than the comp. than to say something like this. Also, PS3 is 2x powerful has the 360. Check your spec sheets. Notice Sony is bossting hardware, and MS is boosting sales?

Your argument is missing the fact that he said reach instead of sell, no where in that whole speech does he mention selling that ridiculous number of consoles. Hell he doesn't even say they'll sell a billion games, he just says a billion people will play their games.

So you would rather disappoint people when they find out your system isn't 2x as powerful the competition, than say you will reach 1 billion consumers? Loads of people were excited when Sony said the PS3 will be 2x as powerful as the Xbox 360, but were disappointed when the PS3 actually launched. People aren't exactly going to be upset if MS don't reach 1 billion consumers are they
