Wii Sports > Farmville.Console gaming these days is much better, they are represented by kinect and move. Gotta get my motion on while I play all those hardcore titles like kinect sports and sports champion.

PC gaming is represented by $4,000 machines when console gamers talk cost and value.
PC gaming is represented by Facebook and Zynga when console gamers talk about games.
PC gaming is represented by piracy when console gamers talk about sales.
PC gaming is represented by multi-million dollar earning MMO's when console gamers talk about the "lack" of PC games.
PC gaming's representation changes depending on the argument console gamers are trying to make.
You must have missed all those hermits posting pie charts that included casual and social network games to prove PC gaming is larger than consoles. Edit: found the thread: http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/27534297its just a tactic used by trolls, how many facebook games are counted for pc in the official spreadsheet?

PC gamers are faithful, and stalwart people that never change their attitudes or opinions or change things to fit their scenario. There is no such thing as a pc fanboy only people with completely correct opinions. Please dont act like Hermits don't commit the same fanboy actions that the other fanboys.PC gaming is represented by $4,000 machines when console gamers talk cost and value.

Just post a link to the pie charts hermits have used recently where facebook gaming and mmo's and cell phone/tablet games have become dominate just so they could prove PC gaming is bigger and or made more money.Just post a picture of the kinect with a link to the sales, and that will be the end of that.

Most console gamers lack a fundamental understanding of what PC gaming is, nor try to acquire a representative one. So they grab whatever representation that aids them in bashing PC, like FaceBook games, and try to paint the whole platform as being that. They also have the console product mentality, and so try to apply that to PC; in their efforts to define what PC is.
PC isn't a closed platform, anyone can develop and sell products on it. There is no guiding hand like a 1st party, dictating what they want the platform to be.
So PC is Facebook gaming. But it is also niche gaming, hardcore gaming, mainstream and casual gaming. It is the McDonald's of gaming, and the fine dining.
It's all the above, from Farmville to Flight Simulator. To try to classify it as any one thing is to impose your views on a platform that encompasses a international community of businesses, all of which represent different interests; and sell on a platform they all helped build.
Of course. Its no different than your assumptions about console gaming.Simple question: in your minds does Facebook gaming == PC gaming?

You mean the chart that says 75% of console "sales" are rentals/used games? Sure, link it.
But it's also fair to argue that consoles cater to all of those categories too, right? Most console gamers lack a fundamental understanding of what PC gaming is, nor try to acquire a representative one. PS3 is Sony, Wii is Nintendo, Xbox 360 is Microsoft.
PC is a collective, the sum of its parts. Consoles are very different in that regard, and dictate/filter what happens on their platform.
[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]But it's also fair to argue that consoles cater to all of those categories too, right? To varying degrees, but consoles are not open platforms with multiple operating systems. Yes, there are ultimately standards, but new standards can be implemented. And while yes, every genre out there has some form of representation on the consoles, the PC caters to some of them much better (like flight simulators and RTSs), just like the console caters better to sports games. Most console gamers lack a fundamental understanding of what PC gaming is, nor try to acquire a representative one. A PC is not necessarily grounded in Windows or x86. Yes, it is the defacto standard, but not the rule. Thanks to the mobile market we could see a shift to ARM or hybrid systems running x86 + ARM in parallel, especially as Nvidia is investing in ARM processing tech to include in their ecosystem. We could literally see OSs run off their graphics cards.

Yes, I'm well aware of that... But it's also silly to categorise console games as just easy shooters or catering to the mainstream - as TC and other users have done in prior threads. There's a wide variety of games on every platform. Hopefully in a few years, the console indie scene will develop further like with XBL.Get over it TC, you deserved the reaction by saying Consoles is for causuals and wives and the PC is only for hardcore when it has Farmville, Wow and Sims -.-'

Most Hermits lack the fundamental understanding of Console gaming and since they do not try to acquire a representative one they grab for any thing to talk about How superior PC gaming is how its obviously superior, how all games on it are superior, How its users are superior then 5 minutes later turn around and talk about how console gaming the obviously inferior arena is some how ruining PC gaming.
In a mad dash to prove them selves and their area of gaming they pull out pie graphs that show Tablet gaming, iphones, Facebook and mmo's make up near to or over half of their money making market...when taken to task for this when they try to claim console gaming is only good for casuals and wives they try to say but casual gaming, and soccer mom games do not represent PC gaming...Oddly when it comes to proving PC gaming is making enough money or is bigger then console gaming such areas of their market are good enough but when it comes to actually representing where a multitude of developers, and where a multitude of users in their camp are at orturning towards they completely and utterly deny it and try to say that these genres are just small portions of PC gaming...
Remember folks Only pc gaming is niche gaming, Casual gaming, Mainstream gaming, Console gaming is not...though these definitions has been used many times by hermits to cIassify console gaming...no niche games too many mainstream and casual games, No main stream games too many casual games, whats up with all these crappy niche console games??...etc...etc

The indie community needs an open platform to properly evolve. In many cases indie games start as mods for other games.
The indie community on consoles still puts out some good games though, there are gems hidden away amongst all of the trash. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=20854 ^ this highlights the positives of such a service on consoles, note how they were given the chance to get the game out there despite initially having it rejected as an XBLA title.Just post a link to the pie charts hermits have used recently where facebook gaming and mmo's and cell phone/tablet games have become dominate just so they could prove PC gaming is bigger and or made more money.[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"]

um no I'm pretty sure it doesn't that combined across the consoles match PC download and retail sales which is why hermits have to fall back on facebook gaming, mmo's and tablet/iphones to have come out on top.[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Hopefully in a few years, the console indie scene will develop further like with XBL.edidili

Based upon what? you mean their have been these tests and studies and natural outgrowth throughout the years? oh no really there hasn't? you mean the indie scene can grow just as well under a set guideline structure? About the only thing that open platform vs closed platform makes for is this. Open platform-99% of indie titles are really really bad, with 1% being good. Closed platform-95% of indie titles are really really bad, with 5% being really really good.[QUOTE="cain006"]

um no I'm pretty sure it doesn't that combined across the consoles match PC download and retail sales which is why hermits have to fall back on facebook gaming, mmo's and tablet/iphones to have come out on top.Really now? Then let´s looks at the chart:
So,even if we take out casual game portals and the social networks that you metioned so much, the PC gaming slices have 30%(MMO´s,Retail and download) against the 43 % of all consoles together. So,no single console alone does 30%...and this is with the PC side being gimped by not including social networks and casual gaming portals, bevause those 43% of the consoles include all the casual stuff as well...
And let´s not forget that this is only for the US,a market that surely isn´t the PC´s strongest.
So please, stop saying the usual b******t you always do,you only make yourself look bad.

Are you serious? You went and made a thread about this? You are full of fail today bro.
I've only really seen it referred to when PC gamers are playing fanboy wars, pretending that casual gamers don't play on PC, but rather only the most godly knowledgable people who have seen the light.
it doesnt represent PC gaming. thats absurd
however, its fun to point out that facebook games are some of the most played PC games whenever certain PC elitists try to call all consoles "casual."
The most annoying thing is that it's always Farmville that is referred to in these arguments.
Cityville is more popular nowadays. You consolites need to get with the times.

Of course not. PC gaming offers something for all levels of gamer....just like consoles.
You just seem to be using your own anecdotal information with your wife and trying to create a broad, all-inclusive generalization about consoles (see your other thread).
That type of mentality is pretty common here on System Wars, so you're fitting right in. Congrats.
Out in the real world, being a reductionist isn't going to get you anywhere with reasonable people.
