[QUOTE="thinicer"][QUOTE="jdang307"]I'm a PS3 fan but damn those numbers are horrible. I spend money like crazy on electronics so $500-2000 doesn't deter me but $600 for a console is expensive. It is. Sony has to lower their price.jdang307
The thing is, even if they lower it it will prompt Microsoft & Nintendo to lower the price of their consoles as well. Because the Wii & 360 have far greater market penetration, it affords them the flexibility to easily lower the price - especially Nintendo because production costs on the Wii are already so low. Microsoft has seen production costs come down on the 360 a lot because they have been in production for over a year now and already have shipped 10 million consoles, further dropping production costs down.
Sony, if they lower the price, will do it out of desperation but they cannot stop Microsoft & Nintendo from following suit.
True, but there are a lot of Sony fans who will buy a PS3 even if slightly more expensive then 360 because of brand loyalty. There are 100 million Sony fans apparently. Most of them are scared of the price. Anectdotal evidence, but all my friends are Sony fanboys (except two halo fans). Before the PS3 came out, I was discussing getting an XBOX 360 because the PS3 had been delayed so damn long they're like screw that I'm waiting for the PS3. I told them MSRP of $600 they're like damn maybe not. None of them have bought eiither console. They just won't buy a 360. But if Sony drops their price they will consider the PS3. Again, anectdotal evidence but the brand loyalty is strong.I don't buy that brand loyalty arguement one bit. Most of PS2 sales came after the console lowered their price to $199. Hell Chevy and Ford used to have brand loyalty until the foreign cars arrived.
