I think some people are afraid that if Tom McShea reviews it (which is a strong possibility), that he'll do his usual thing and give the game a shock score, but he has said that he likes the game, so I cannot see him giving it a lower than average score.

There is no real evidence to this besides your baseless opinion. I am hyping it AAA because nothing I've seen screams 9. A lot of fantastic games don't get 9s. I think this is one of them. Tom has also way surprised people too. SMG2 getting a 10 for example.

it's just guessing what gamespot will score the game. if you guess right, you get bragging rights. if you guess wrong, everyone else gets to say "flop" for a month or two.

So to this day I don't know what this "AAAA" and "AAE" nonsense is when it comes to review scores. However, I can name to you how I think it will review in, you know...numbers (crazy right?).

I feel like it will be reviewing between an even 8.0 and a solid 9.0. Somewhere within that range. And btw, that's where I predict METACRITIC will have the game resting. Not solely Gamespot's review because, well...lulz. And I believe that the game will very likely be worth even higher but since the Pikmin games aren't terrible deep in story that will probably keep the Metacritic score down. However an 8 is a great score for any game so I'd still be happy with that.

Regardless, I'm SOOPER pumped for the game (finally!!)! Great thread too Charizard.

This is one of the BIGGEST Wii U games releasing this year, and has been talked about for quite some time.

I bought my Wii U at launch, and was told to expect this game at the launch window. By this point in time (6-28-13) I should have beat the game a few times...so the delays have been very disappointing considering the other launch window game, Wonderful 101 also has seen delays.

I wonder if the Wii U install base sales have been a reason for these delays? Cleary these companies wouldn't want to say that, but considering there is no online play for Pikmin 3, it's 720p, and started as a Wii game...I wonder what the hold up is.

Either way, I'm looking forward to this game.

My GS HYPE (not to be confused with my personal HYPE) could go both ways. AAA or AA.

Historically,

2001's PIKMIN got a 8.9 from GS.

2004's PIKMIN 2 got a 9.2 from GS.

2013's PIKMIN 3 got a ___ from GS?

I own both these games, I had fun.

PIKMIN 3 has a great shot at AAA at GS, the Wii U power boost over the Wii should only aid the game's score, as well as the delays adding more polish.

The fact this latest PIKMIN game is coming in 2013, 9 years later should also be better for the brand. That's a lot of time for gameplay to have evolved compared to the annual cookie cutter sequels like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty games that release to great scores.

I don't see why this game would do worse at GS. This is also one of the MAIN Wii U titles releasing this year, so what else am I to do? After considering these things, I think it's probable this game will get an AAA at GS.

My HYPE is AAA, and considering I bought my Wii U early to play this game I should be pleased. I'm certain I'll be right, as I usually am, but there is the McShea factor. I'll risk it though.

This is one of the BIGGEST Wii U games releasing this year, and has been talked about for quite some time.

Cause they don't think it'll get a 9. I don't. Its been on the back burner for 9 years, I dunno how peoples expectations and perceptions of the series have changed. I personally think it looks like an 8.5. That's my hype. As for U4, you should generally like actually follow what you're hyping before just blindly hyping it a random numbers. That's why cows are dumb.

After seeing DKCR get an 8.5 along with Rayman Origins, I just feel it isn't possible for a game to get anything higher than an 8.5 based purely on gameplay unless it's Galaxy level, which is unfair to begin with.

AA for me. I want to see AAA though.

2D Donkey Kong is great, DKCR was one of the best platformers of last gen... and again is much bigger than Pikmin 3.

Then Super Mario 3D World.  The first main 3D Mario since SMG2 and likely one of the bigger titles that will release in the consoles lifespan.  Infinitely bigger than Pikmin 3.

I dont know were you're getting the idea that Pikmin 3 is supposed to be major shit.  And if you didnt even know about the biggest exclusive the console will get this year (SM3DW) then your opinion on the status of Pikmin 3 is pretty much worthless.

Higher selling, Yes. Critically though, they are the same. Borderline AAA.

Sorry, but Donkey Kong Country is consistently a higher rated series than Pikmin, in addition to being higher selling. You have a case for Zelda, MAYBE, but not for Mario or Donkey Kong. Best case scenario, Pikmin, a C tier Nintendo franchise, incidentally, defaults to the #3 most hyped Wii U game this year.

Not based off of recent history, as both Pikmin games outscored the last 2D DK game. The only thing people ever bring up about the sequel is why Retro isn't doing something better with their time. 

All of which is to say that these allegations of 'OMG CONSPIRACY, HYPE DOWNPLAYED' are as ridiculous as they are baseless. In other words, pretty f*cking ridiculous.

The series has an average AAA grade. Was used as one of two games since the release of the WiiU (the other Bayonetta 2) to somewhat justify the lineup. And yet is only getting AA hype.

Most of the people on this board looking forward to Pikmin 3 havent even played the first 2.  Myself included.

Pikminmaniac (obviously) is the only person I see going crazy about this game.

I mean no insult to the series, but its far from being one of Nintendos big guns.  I find it hilarious that people are trying to put it on a pedestal simply to generate some hype theory.

The only reason the game was mentioned so much early on is because it was supposed to be a launch window game.

1.  Maybe it shouldnt, but it is.  Zelda is big.  People love WW.  This gets back to the point that Pikmin is a b or c level series.  Zelda is one of Nintendos tops.

2.  Its not getting too much hype, but neither is Pikmin 3.  The fact is DK is a much bigger deal to most than Pikmin 3.  Most gamers know what DK is.  The same can not be said about Pikmin 3.

3.  An attempt at a joke doesnt negate the fact that you were clueless about one of the biggest releases this year.  Yet still trying to speak with authority about the status of Pikmin among Nintendo gamers.

Not true at all. The first two averaged an AAA rating and they were praised for being innovative titles that actually implemented RTS elements that was previously said to be impossible on consoles. 

And It's not a theory. It happens in every single one of these hype threads.
