Not true at all. The first two averaged an AAA rating and they were praised for being innovative titles that actually implemented RTS elements that was previously said to be impossible on consoles. 

And It's not a theory. It happens in every single one of these hype threads.

1.  Maybe it shouldnt, but it is.  Zelda is big.  People love WW.  This gets back to the point that Pikmin is a b or c level series.  Zelda is one of Nintendos tops.

2.  Its not getting too much hype, but neither is Pikmin 3.  The fact is DK is a much bigger deal to most than Pikmin 3.  Most gamers know what DK is.  The same can not be said about Pikmin 3.

3.  An attempt at a joke doesnt negate the fact that you were clueless about one of the biggest releases this year.  Yet still trying to speak with authority about the status of Pikmin among Nintendo gamers.

And main Mario releases are typically 1 or 2 per gen.  Not an annual affair at all.

1. Which should say something about the faction then.

2. People are resenting DK, at least some are looking forward to Pikmin. And a hell of a lot more were when it was announced. 

3. Do explain to me how my knowledge of Mario releases (one that was announced two weeks ago) negates personal views of how much hype a game had compared to its current state.

1. Justify it however you want. And people certainly aren't hyping it here. Which is, after all, what this thread is all about. I'm not sure what you are referring to regarding Zelda flops, some Skyward Sword reference? I played about 30 mins of it. Did not enjoy the controls. 

2. For Nintendo. I'm glad you pointed that out. This is not a sales/stock argument. It is a SW/hype argument.

3. I corrected my post before you even got your quote in. I still don't understand how I can misinterpret hype regarding a year old game announcement because I didn't know which Mario game he was referencing. 

If anything, it just shows how dead the sheep faction has become.

People are really underplaying Pikmin. I thought this board was about video games yet people keep calling the series "c level" based only on the game's lack of hype and sales. Fact of the matter is, I still hear Pikmin 2 crawl up in people's messages evey once in awhile and it does get some people talking about it. Pikmin 3 has gotten a fair amount of talk too. Last E3 it was the Wii U game of the show (it was my personaly GOS at E3).

Here are the facts. Pikmin 1 got an 8.5. Pikmin 2 got a 9.1 (or something close to that). This is a series that has reached AAA status before and it's really original and fun to play. The games still feel almost brand new besides a few control and graphics issues.

BTW, if Nintendo considered Pikmin a "c-level" series, they wouldn't have made another one, and Miyamoto wouldn't be so focused on Pikmin 3 either.

This is one of the BIGGEST Wii U games releasing this year, and has been talked about for quite some time.

I bought my Wii U at launch, and was told to expect this game at the launch window. By this point in time (6-28-13) I should have beat the game a few times...so the delays have been very disappointing considering the other launch window game, Wonderful 101 also has seen delays.

I wonder if the Wii U install base sales have been a reason for these delays? Cleary these companies wouldn't want to say that, but considering there is no online play for Pikmin 3, it's 720p, and started as a Wii game...I wonder what the hold up is.

Either way, I'm looking forward to this game.

My GS HYPE (not to be confused with my personal HYPE) could go both ways. AAA or AA.

Historically,

2001's PIKMIN got a 8.9 from GS.

2004's PIKMIN 2 got a 9.2 from GS.

2013's PIKMIN 3 got a ___ from GS?

I own both these games, I had fun.

PIKMIN 3 has a great shot at AAA at GS, the Wii U power boost over the Wii should only aid the game's score, as well as the delays adding more polish.

The fact this latest PIKMIN game is coming in 2013, 9 years later should also be better for the brand. That's a lot of time for gameplay to have evolved compared to the annual cookie cutter sequels like Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty games that release to great scores.

I don't see why this game would do worse at GS. This is also one of the MAIN Wii U titles releasing this year, so what else am I to do? After considering these things, I think it's probable this game will get an AAA at GS.

My HYPE is AAA, and considering I bought my Wii U early to play this game I should be pleased. I'm certain I'll be right, as I usually am, but there is the McShea factor. I'll risk it though.

First of all, its just a meta-game.  People hype a score they think it will get.  Cows just tend to be on the ridiculous side of things when it comes to over-hype.  On top of that, I'm more of a cow than the both of you!  I dont even own a Wii U or a 3DS.  My Wii has been packed up in a box for months.  Most of my gaming is done on the PS3.  Any extra gaming is on PC.  Like a lot of gamers on this board, I make fun of cows not because I have an issue with Sony, but because so many cows make up the bulk of the idiots around here.

People are really underestimating the Pikmin series. Sure it isn't a top seller, but it is really highly acclaimed and it receives quite a bit of Nintendo's attention. Just look at the releases for Wii U this year. Pikmin 3 looks to have the strongest amount of effort behind it just as Pikmin 2 seemed to have back on the GCN. Pikmin 2 had more content and production values poured into it than practically any other Nintendo franchise at the time. It looks like the same is happening here. After all, Pikmin is Miyamoto's baby

The 8.5 was a type. I knew it was an 8.9 :P The 9.1 was my mistake. 

Anyway, it just makes my point stronger. Pikmin is a really great series. If Nintendo didn't expect much from it then Miyamoto wouldn't be focusing so hard on it, and more so than any other project like he is now. They also wouldn't have given it such a huge development time either. I mean, what has it been? 5 years since it has been announced? Zelda released before it and was announced at the same time. Who would have thought that?

Casual and shallow strategy games are the bane of the genre. Games like Chess and Checkers revolve around skill. Stuff like what is on PC challenge your mind. Pikmin is either, I should declare it not a Strategy game, but people are used to calling it that by now.PresidentRickor

The best way to describe Pikmin is an Action Adventure with RTS gameplay. So it ends up being an action adventure that forces you to really think about your actions and requires you to be efficient to truly prevail.

I think this has a decent shot at getting a 9.0 (AAA)

I'm not excited for this game at all, I say AE.

The previous games scored pretty well on this site too, the first one close to 9.0 and the second one scored 9.2

The three major titles are DK, Mario, and Pikmin. We really shouldn't consider Zelda too much though, being a remake and all (a great looking remake at that, though).

DK is Retro's game and the sequel to DKCR which was one of the best platformers last gen and about the best it could have been given what Nintendo wanted (annoying waggle not considered). 

Mario is made by EAD Tokyo so, no matter how meh it looks at the moment, it is almost impossible to consider it will be anything less than one of the best games this year. Besides, the cat suit I bet is actually pretty fun...no matter how much I don't like cats :P

Pikmin 3 is Miyamoto's latest project and it's something he has obviously put a lot of heart and consideration into. Maybe, like LTTP and SMB3, we will see a third entry in a series that will blow our mind? Miyamoto does have that third charm thing. 

Out of the three I'm hoping Pikmin 3 is the most successful, critically at least. It's a long shot. I mean this is Retro and this is EAD. Both are outstanding. But then again, Pikmin 3 does have Miyamoto. Can't wait to see.
