The Super Smash Bros. 3DS Discussion Thread

Lots of fun. Online is stable for the most part except for some lag, though I haven't been disconnected once yet. Some annoying same move people on for glory mode, but I suppose that's to be expected. The challenges in this game are so easy though lol. I recall the Brawl ones being insane, but hey, I'll take it. By the way, FC is 0662-3499-6228. I still can't believe how stable and fluid this game feels. You'd expect the game to be bad especially on the 3DS, but color me surprised. :P Can't wait for the Wii U version.

as I type this, I'm stuck online

I started a 1 vs 1 on Glory mode. And when I got to the practice part with the darked out CPU versions of yourself.. it's NOT STARTING the match. But I haven't been disconnected. It's been at least 30 minutes. I'm guessing my opponent is afraid to disconnect like me. What would you guys do?

I'm having two issues with the game. The first thing I did when I started it up was download the update, but there is a notification on the main menu that won't go on the bottom screen about downloading the update and if I try to go online an error code shows up on every mode I try. Anybody else getting this?

Is Yoshi a terrible character or is it just me? Haven't played him since Melee and he keeps rolling to his death in this game.

Dunno to be exact since I dont have the game.

But in the Japanese Tier List Yoshi is so far the A (top) tier.

@Pikminmaniac: I haven't noticed that problem, but I did find a thread on Nintendo's site of people who have. One guy recommended uninstalling the demo of it if you have it, but if you don't want to do that there's also this that he recommended from Nintendo's site:

It is mainly based on what the top players think, what the average joe has to say has no weight in it.

I wonder how the western one will look like. Japan and the West have always had different tier lists for each Smash game. The tier list will also see a lot of change, after people discover new techniques and glitches with each character.

@SolidGame_basic: Subspace got leaked so Sakurai got rid of it. It doesn't hurt the game though, there's plenty to do and the online is very fun this time around.

i download the the update and installed it. the message didnt go away but i can go online.

Pac man is a blast to play as. I have yet to try online though.

I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed by that. Don't think I would give this higher than a 8/10. Campaign was always such a great part of the series.

@SolidGame_basic: Smash has literally never had a campaign except for in Brawl. 64 had Classic Mode, Melee had Adventure Mode, this has Classic Mode, All Star Mode, and Smash Run. But I don't know where you get the idea that a story based campaign has been a major part of the series when the exact opposite is the true.

But the series only had a campaign once and it was terrible (subspace). Smash 64 only ever had Classic mode and Melee had essentially two different arcade modes. I think the lack of event match is more concerning. I wonder what the Wii U version will include.

That tier list is nonsense, it's getting posted all over Smashboards and /vg/ as a joke. There's no way Duck Hunt is not in the top five, or that Fox and Wario are actually that good. Pretty much everything about is wrong, especially D tier and below

Tier lists at this point don't make sense anyway, you need at least a few months of tournament results to come up with something that's fairly accurate. Game hasn't even been out in Japan for a month and I don't think their tournament scene is as big as it is in the West

What it does is gauge roughly how early Japanese competitive players judge the characters thus far. Yes, it will probably be radically different once the game has been out for longer.

But regardless, it is an interesting first look at the state of the Japanese competitive smash scene, and how their current top players would rank the characters thus far. Which goes to my point, Yoshi is not terrible.

Lol I didn't plan on playing him beforehand, but Bowser Jr is quite fun. One for glory match I won cause I sent two players off the stage when I ejected Jr out of his clown car.XD Marth, Duck Hunt, Mii Brawler, and Boswer Jr are pretty much the top for me. Great game overall despite the lag online

Far Cry has been solid so far. Great game, well optimized, etc. Which is why i have some hopes 4 will be good. But the last ones were 4 years apart. This one is 2..

To be 100% honest, i've been of mind that Far Cry is begining the descent into yearly Ubisoft milking. But aslong as it's good, i'm fine. Hopefully.

Also, why no Mewtwo nintendo?

They did say they were going to make Far Cry a tentpole franchise alongside Assassin's Creed when 3 was successful, so you may be right. Although personally, two years is more than enough to develop a good game.

FC3 sold 4.5 million at first, but ended up surpassing 9M, so clealy the milking potential is there. Ass Creed, Watch Doge and FC. Ubisoft themselves admit to wanting more franchises so if FC can one, they'll do it. I just want 4 to be good.

Why can't we have both? Oh right, we can't have 2 cool looking fighting type pokemon (not actualy types), but we can have Dr Mario be a character, or that dog from.................whatever it is.

I thought the subspace thing from Brawl was really annoying. I actually prefer this smash run thingie. It's short, it's way more fun than what most reviewers said, and it's far less pretentious than the subspace thing.

Someone please tell me Shulk is good.

This is my favorite Smash match of all that I've seen. I honestly want this game to go to EVO, or whatever SSB equivalent, and for the grand finals to end like this.

Shulk is really good.

@ActicEdge: Shulk is great, you just have to memorize the order of the Monado arts to switch between them quickly. It's harder than it sounds. All of his attacks are good and I don't think he has a glaring flaw, apart from no projectile.

Also, Kirby after inhaling Shulk is god-tier. He gets Monado arts, and when he uses the Jump art, he jumps higher than a fully-pressed Falco, lol

@OneSanitarium: I don't see Smash 4 going to EVO over Melee, but it's definitely going to be at APEX next year. That's the biggest Smash-exclusive tournament for every Smash Bros. game.

Thank you based Monolith. Shulk was my most wanted character. Also, how does it feel to lose event matches?

@charizard1605: The game is great. My only disappointment is you can't use the D-Pad to control your guy, which is lame. Everyone is breaking their analog stick using it. It really required a lot off quick back and forth motions which could easily break your stick. They should allow you to use the D-Pad. I also don't like the UI or Menu system. It's confusing selecting P1 or CPU and then from to pick a character. It's not intuitive at all. I'm still trying to learn the moves. Going to take awhile.

Wondering if I should get Legend of Korra next for 3DS.

The menu is a little esoteric, yes. I don't understand the problems with the controls, though. If you were good at, say, Smash 64, then the controls on this one should not be problematic to you at all.

What character are you using?

Anyone still having a problem with the online lag? I like the game a lot now but the lag in the online is bad.

It's mostly smooth, with a half second of input lag, but every now and then, there'll be a lag spike, and that will screw me over so badly. Especially since the game stacks all your move inputs during the spike, which is doubly bad.

Yeah I agree. It's kind of awkward when I use Kirby because the circle pad doesn't feel right for him and he is my favourite SSB character. I feel comfortable controlling him in the other games with the analog sticks for the other Nintendo systems but not the 3DS circle pad. Would rather use a D-Pad instead.

Yeah I really hope Nintendo finds a way to fix this issue.

Shulk is good, but has a steeper learning curve than most characters.

So, so disappointed that Ganondorf remains a Captain Falcon clone. I don't get it! He's such a major Nintendo character. It'd be like making Bowser a clone.

And add me to the list of people who've had terrible luck trying to play online. I get lag every time -- if I even get to the match. Sometimes the lag is endurable, but it's still a pain to have to acclimate to an input delay. Le sigh. Forgive me if I'm just naive, but do other fighting games have this problem? (I hate to ask, but did the flop PlayStation version of Smash Bros. have this issue?)

@Shinobishyguy: Whenever playing against Little Mac, bait the person to the edge, grab and throw them, then jump and hit them in the air.. Little Mac has terrible recovery haha... It should kill them most of the time lol
