When developers want to get lazy and dont want to think of anything new they start covering up by screaming "we need new consoles".Bringing out new consoles wont solve anything;there is plenty of stuff developers can still do with the PS3/X360.I mean sure these consoles might be peeking but who gives a ****?I play games to have fun not to just look at the graphics.(not to mention the graphics in new games that come out these days for the PS3/X360 still wow me)

The same thing could be said for PC. What would an upgraded PC do that past ones can't, aside from better graphics?

Larger levels with farther field of view, better physics to allow more realism, eventually you can have things like ray tracing. If graphics didn't matter, why upgrade from the NES or SNES? You can have new kinds of experiences with more powerful hardware.

My point to TC is, the same could be done on consoles. Bigger levels and such, with the next gen. So, i'm saying I think he's wrong. (Or doesn't know what he's talking about.)

[QUOTE="110million"] Starbit collection wasn't really what the game is known for either. :/ I don't really see controls as such a major part of the game as you do, as long as the controls make sense for the particular game, my focus shifts entirely to the game, I know when I push a particular button I will jump, another will make me shoot or whatever. It takes you out of the game when you start needing to turn your controller or start pointing at the screen, at least for me. The controller should be there to allow you to play the game, the controller itself should not be the game. Why is it that no one started complaining about gamepads being outdated until this gen? They were okay for like several decades and now they are bad all of a sudden, simply because nintendo released a controller that they themselves don't make heavy use of. LastRambo341

That's the whole thing right there. For most games the Wii mote just doesn't make sense.

Since minor graphical updates are the last thing needed, a new generation doesn't need to come up any time soon.

Exactly! We dont need new consoles right now, we are already seeing impressive looking games already (God of War 3, KZ3, U3, Gears 3), and I dont want to spend $600/700 on some minor upgrade in resolution and some other BS that wont make any significant difference from what we are getting right now.

Anyone who says otherwise is just a graphic whore who just wants a new console to brag to the hermits and compare more cool specs too.

its to bad the only new console/handheld coming is ngp and wii 2 ,

thanks to sony and ms pushin current hardware past its limits , and releasing add-ons and bigger disc sizes-xbox ,

and ll that will have to settle for , im sorry but thats the truth this is what happens when people rush into things,

had they done a xbox 1.5 or ps2.5 theyd be where nintendo is now - on its way to releasing better hardware for cheaper prices and thats somthing they dont care abour

so ill stick to my ps3 360 and get my wii 2 i do own all consoles lol but next gen will probably be different cause im gonna get which one has the better games, im not going all 3 again did that this gen ended up wasting 600 bucks

and wii 3 will be around the corner from ps4s /720s launches so

I think the mark of a good controller is when you get so immersed into the game that you forget that you are using a controller. Basically a controller translates our thought into a relevant acation in the gameworld, and the more spontaneous and fluid this translation is, the better the experience. So a normal gamepad owns wiimote in that respect imo. You can just lie on a couch while your mind works and your finger translate your thoughts through tiny button presses, which are hardly registered by your brain and hence don't dirupt your immersion. While if you need to stand and wave your arm and slash empty air and whatnot- i dunno, that just kills it for me. That said, there is much to be said for a button that makes something awesome happen. button = awesome. wow.

[QUOTE="110million"][QUOTE="LastRambo341"] Uh...look at the difference between the Ps2's controller and Ps3's controller & xbox's controller and 360 controller. ALMOST NO difference N64 to GC , good jump. GC to Wiimote ,big jump They're not bad, but they're dated. Its impractical to play with the same old thing

GC was fine for some things, but not for others. The dpad was completely horrible, should not have even been there, and did not feel so crazy different. Dual Shock is basically perfect, as is the 360 controller (it also has a crappy dpad though, but at least its useable). What is impractical about the "same old thing"? 360 and PS3 controllers work great, I never even think about the controller when I'm playing the game, I just push the buttons. That is part of the immersion. Being told to perform some stupid gimmicky action by the UI such as shaking, tilting, etc, pulls you out of the experiance.

SD graphics are great, so why move to HD graphics? So you're telling me that its not innovating if I perform a stab motion and then the sword on-screen goes forward in a stab motion? Ya ok

Exactly!! You get the supreme co sign from Coolyfett! Only one company needs to upgrade, after fooling gamers into buying inferior hardward. Now is the perfect time for Microsoft and Sony to blitz the industry with both first & third party games. We dont need new systems we need more games, more options, more genres!!! Devs need to be creative. Everything you are saying JordanizPro is dead on man!! Microsoft & Sony have excellent systems. What ever system has the most games of all time...Sony and Microsoft need to try and double that number, create a controller with a screen on it, but we dont need new hardware from those two firms.

Your exaggerating. All i said was that Developers can pull off making amazing games on these systems.Just look at Rockstar. They can make fresh fun new games like RDR,GTA4,and LA noir but other developers cant?please

BOOOOOOOY You aint never lied!!! Coolyfett wonders about that as well. How Rockstar come up with these fine games and EA & Activision cant??? See what Coolyfett did there?? Gamers keep buying rehashes and taking all the imagination & creativity out of gaming. Its a lot of self centered egos on this topic. Coolyfett can tell who has been gaming since Generation 3 vs gamers who just started in Generation 6. People pushing for new systems really dont value anything. Price cuts? Yes...New systems NO!

No, it means that I can't think of a single one and I have'nt seen an example I could agree with. In fact, games like SMG strike me as pretty much designed for DA controllers while being Wii-mote exclusive regardless.

Why won't you enlighten me if you hold the knowledge?

Riverwolf007

larger areas, more onscreen enemies, better physics calculations, better framerates just to name a few.

all those are important to me and have nothing to do with looking better.

All this is true, when will people realize the stronger consoles get, the more tech they can do. How about destruction and going from space to land seamlessly? And how do you expect games to move forward without better tech? Consoles aren't made of magic and can't do everything, they do the best they can.

Not to mention, all 3 consoles have lasted over 6 years by next year this gen. Normally consoles last up to 5 years before another one comes out.

Indie_Hitman

Yeah, but this console generation is ancient, almost 6 years old and developers are having a hard time optimizing these said games to still 'wow' you, millions of dollars and time wasted. With more 'free space' to work on the devs wouldn't have such a hard time optimizing the games, as another guy said in another topic.

Its time for a new gen. And hopefully the death of mediocre, linear, gray and bland shooters, and something new to kick it in popularity.

Shirley with the extended generation, production costs are decreasing, and the devs can take more risks with original ideas? If we jump to next gen, the bland corridor shooters will just become more common.

LOL @ Shirley! But yes this is very true. The Devs are still learning how to maximize the system. Xbox 360 & Playstation 3 need more games, more options, more controllers. The hardware is still fine. A price drop new competitive bundles would be so lovely!! Xbox 360 + Kinect for 150$ when that happens then they can make new systems. Right now the price is still high.

You said it yourself OP. The big difference is graphics. The differences between generations are usually just leaps in hardware. After games like Killzone 3, Uncharted, Gears 3, etc., developers can't just start making games that don't look as good or else they'll be living in the shadow of the better looking games. Gameplay, story, and all of that is the same throughout different generations of hardware, the difference that you get with new hardware is better graphics. Making games look better is just as important as giving it a good story because graphics are a core part of a game. Graphics are what make people say "Wow, this game looks great".

dzimm

The reason many games on the hi-def consoles are mediocre, linear, grey, and bland is because that's how they're designed and not because the available hardware can't support a different kind of game. You could give developers more powerful tech to work with, and they'd still deliver mediocre, linear, grey, and bland games simply because that's what sells.

Solid! and True!

You find innovation in so little. Until the Wii Motion+ what you said was barely a reality, there was only a few different actions, and simply shaking it could get you through most actions, WM+ has done slightly better, Red Steel 2 controls okay, but its still "shaky" at best. Skyward Sword will pretty much be the first nintendo game that makes use of the full range of Wii-Mote features without seeming gimmicky (i.e shaking in SMG) or just using the IR pointer like metroid. It came 5 years after the system's launch, if it even comes out this year. Knowing nintendo they will push back the game once its done by a year and a half simply to launch it on the next platform.

Not only that, but we need more games. People spent a lot of money on their Xbox 360s & Playstations 3s, it would be terrible service to stop developing for those 2 great systems. They were not cheap systems. When a PS3 cost 150$ then we can upgrade but there are still many people that dont have either system mainly because of how much they cost. They not household items yet.

oooh! I love surveys Do you own a Wii? Yes How long have you had it? Since April 2008. How many games? I'd say about 15 or so, off the top of my head, SMG, SMG2, No More Heroes 1,2, Red Steel 2, Boy and his Blob, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Goldeneye, Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3, Monster Hunter Tri. Prolly missing a few. How often do you play it? Not much lately, waiting on Xenoblade, The Last Story and Skyward Sword. Out of those games, NMH 1,2, Red Steel 2 and MP3 are pretty much the only ones that makes some relevant use of the Wii mote. You may think I don't like the Wii, but I do, I don't think motion controls are the future though, they are neat in NMH and Red Steel 2, though in RS2 it still kind of feels like its not quite there, but I don't much like pointing the IR, and it feels like it works like it should, I just don't care for it. While I don't think I could have enjoyed NMH as much without the wii-mote, the rest of the games that don't make heavy use of it felt like they could have worked better with a standard controller. DKCR is my favorite Wii game, and the only thing you use the shaking for is to stomp, it could have easily been a button, same with spinning in mario, I'm fine with the collecting starbits, but I found it irritating to shake when I wanted to do a really fast motion. Here is the problem, let me get srs for a second. The dos and don't of motion control: Do make an action of the Wii-Mote match one that you do on screen. (EG. a stab to stab) DON'T turn an action that replaces a button into a motion. (EG. a shake to spin). Pointing at the screen or doing a sword swinging motion that matches your character is alright, but if the action you're doing could be replaced by a button, you're doing it wrong. I hope you understand what I mean.

People that dont have a ps3 or 360 now are probably not going to get them, its the end of the consoles life already. They might not have got them because this gen is terrible and these hd twins are just wannabe pcs. These 360 isnt 150 yet because of MS greed and the ps3 isnt 150 yet because of sony white elephant teh cell

Well, you're gonna need it sooner or later :P. Seriously though, I agree. New systems aren't getting any cheaper each generation, and I don't see how games can get any more advanced other than better graphics (nowdays, this gen just seems more convenient more than innovative). DethSkematik

New hardware affects far more than just graphics, hardware also affects:

1: Physics

2: Destruction

3: Artifical Intellegence

4: Number of characters/enemies/players on screen at once

5: Size of video games

6: Load times

7: Animation

8: Audio Fidelity

They were not cheap systems. When a PS3 cost 150$ then we can upgrade but there are still many people that dont have either system mainly because of how much they cost. They not household items yet.

Are you kidding me, both 360 and PS3 have sold 50 million EACH and the Wii has sold what, 80 million?! That's even more than the total what last gen consoles sold I believe.

[QUOTE="DethSkematik"]Well, you're gonna need it sooner or later :P. Seriously though, I agree. New systems aren't getting any cheaper each generation, and I don't see how games can get any more advanced other than better graphics (nowdays, this gen just seems more convenient more than innovative). DarkGamer007

New hardware affects far more than just graphics, hardware also affects:

1: Physics

2: Destruction

3: Artifical Intellegence

4: Number of characters/enemies/players on screen at once

5: Size of video games

6: Load times

7: Animation

8: Audio Fidelity

I'm glad more people get it.=p

People that dont have a ps3 or 360 now are probably not going to get them, its the end of the consoles life already. They might not have got them because this gen is terrible and these hd twins are just wannabe pcs. These 360 isnt 150 yet because of MS greed and the ps3 isnt 150 yet because of sony white elephant teh cell

If it is the end of 360 & PS3 why are games still coming out for it?

These Gen is not over. Generation 7 does not end until 360 or PS3 stops production....meaning the factory stops creating them.

Coolyfett has no beef with PC gaming.

150$ is a fair price for staying in the black. Use hardcore gamers and nerds to get out of the red and use fair pricing to stay in the black.

Now is the time for PS3 & 360 to blitz games on the market.

There are over 308 Million people in the US, Do you know how many people are in Europe and Japan? Both have more people than the US. Now you do the math.

. I hope you understand what I mean.110million

That's my whole problem with the Wii in a nutshell.

I'll also add: Don't implement stabbing motions just because you can. Make them relevant rather than a nuiscance or leave them alone.

personaly, I find immersion to be proportional with the "lag" between thought and action as far as controls go. The less I notice I'm even using one, the better (except when you actually do stop using one ;))

Great for Tennis games, not so great for Mario.

So you expect EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL person of ALL DEMOGRAPICS to own ONE console?! This gen in terms of hardware sales may even be the largest ever I believe, it's time to move on.

The Nintendo system sold 80 million. Ok what if the Wii was priced at 399$? Would it have sold 80 million? This Generation is far from over. Coolyfett is starting to see why gamers want this Generation 7 to be over. They dont want PS3 or 360 to catch the Wii in numbers. Its all about the numbers. See if 360 & PS3 was to price drop the numbers would destroy 100 million.........Coolyfett is smelling fear now. Why the rush to end Generation 7 gamers?? Something doesnt smell right. All these graphic excuses just dont fly.

Well move on then. The INDUSTRY controls the INDUSTRY. The sky is the limit. Microsoft & Sony has not sold enough because it is still not an affordable hobby. Generation 7 continues....what are you going to do about it?

Gamers that just bought a PS3 or 360 need not to worry about what Nintendo is doing. Not matter what they release it will be apart of Generation 7 unless Microsoft or Sony make a move. You cant have a new generation of SYSTEMS if there is only one SYSTEM........seriously. Keep buying games. The 3DS is doing bad in retail, so if Nintendo drops support for the Wii to focus on Cafe...Sony & Microsoft are now to follow suit?? No Sir. Generation 7 continues. Deal wit it.

Good boy. Well played, keep your diginity in tact.

On topic. Generation 7 has at least 4 years left in it, but again as the Topic starter has stated there is no need for new systems on Microsoft & Sony part.

Your exaggerating. All i said was that Developers can pull off making amazing games on these systems.Just look at Rockstar. They can make fresh fun new games like RDR,GTA4,and LA noir but other developers cant?please

And new systems will bring that and even more possibilities AND the graphics. What's wrong with that tc?

Good call, is China apart of the *** region or is there some regulation there? There may be some form of video game regulation in China...but most of the time you see 3 regions mentioned NA, *** & EU...Aust maybe? Still the point is PS3 should do DS numbers before they waste time trying to compete with a system they do not need to compete with.

to be lazy as ****.I mean seriously people;what will a new console do that we dont already have BESIDES better graphics?

JordanizPro

TC, I whole heartedly agree with you. This generation has failed to impress me not because of the hardware limitation but the uninspiring games themselves. This is like the only thread that strike me as a message that all gamers and the industry should reflect on.

While further reading the replys of the thread, I realized many people are disagreeing with the TC saying the gen has lasted 6 years and we should move on. I think you guys are misinterpreting what TC is trying to say or perhaps the TC has enlighten me. The premise of hardware improvement is to allow video games to entertain their users in more innovating ways. Gameplay improvement from PS1/ N64 gen to PS2/ xbox/ GC gen is easily seen, we have vehicles in shooters; voice over etc. Sadly, these kind of improvements were less noticeable from last gen to the current gen. Games have become more expensive to produce and what we have now a days are high production value but uninspiring games. From what I've read in the OP, I realized that the PS3 and 360 have hardware that could achieve many things that previous gens cannot BUT these gameplay innovations are not happening! With better hardware power comes next gen, we'll still get yearly COD. New consoles are great but I sincerely hope developers are making games fun and not just pretty!
