I dont see the point, blueray will be dead soon once DD becomes the norm, especially int he gaming industry, publishers are tired of used game sales.

Most of Those free PS3 games in the welcome back section could fit on a DVD. Sony didnt need Bluray for games they needed Blu-ray to win a movie format war thats why its in the PS3. The data is duplicated across the disc many times to avoid huge load times.

LBP and infamous both have PCM soundtracks. There is no way the game and the sound track would have fit on a dvd... just not happening...

*laughs hard* do you know that a game truely uncompressed wouldn't fit on even a 10 layer bluray? compression is a natural function of games without it every thing would be drastically large, and not only that wouldn't even play cause the ram would fill up.

P.S: and I just thought of the load times even with a required install the game would take hours to load.

The PS3 there is little compression done,is not like and uncompressed game would take 300 GB,compression on 360 is heavy extremely heavy compare to PS3.tormentos

^^^ If you haven't noticed, games are growing in size since the X360 launched eons ago. This problem will continue to be an issue forcing multiple discs or heavily compressed data or the gimping of game design fit for Blu-ray so it all fits on the lowly DVD.

I see nothing that indicates that. We get two or three multi-disc games per year (from the more than 100 that are released every year for the 360), and with Sony themselves saying that most PS3 games are 9GB, I see no reason to believe games are growing in size or that DVD is somehow compromising game design.

And even if it were, it shouldn't be an issue, since devs can always just use another DVD if they need more space. But the vast majority of games don't use another DVD, indicating that such a need simply doesn't exist.

I heard these same arguments about DVD being a last-gen format five years ago.

Blu-Ray is nice to have, but it wasn't the game-breaker that people thought it was going to be when the PS3 came to market, at least when it came to the video game industry. Movie formats, on the other hand....

People are making fun of the 360 using a last-gen format, but the reality is that the choice of sticking to DVD may have been the reason why Microsoft gained such considerable market share this generation compared to last and became far more profitable. With DVD, the 360 was the cheaper console. Even with the huge RROD problem, Microsoft still has the edge over Sony right now in consoles sold and software sold.
