Both the pro and scorpio aren't needed till atleast 3-5 years from now if you think about it.4k tvs arent the norm nor is 4k content.

What an asshole, I won't be able to get it up for months now.
Anywho, Scorpio will obviously be the superior machine, but I don't think it's going to sell whole lot.
@dakur: There is no irony other than your claim that console gamers don't care about power when "power" was all that was talked about around here until Scorpio was announced..
And to address your statement, I'm a console gamer who enjoys Halo, multiplayer focused games, and have friends that primarily play on Xbox Live.. once I get a 4K HDTV, are you suggesting that I shouldn't be interested in getting a 4K console like Project Scorpio?.. Are you saying that for the last 4 years I should have been playing on a console like the PS4 that doesn't have my favorite gaming franchise, most 1st party offerings are single player focused, and where my friends don't play online?..
The only thing that's irrelevant is your credibility on this forum..
@Vatusus: Are you serious?.. The entire industry had Microsoft predicted as dominating this generation.. Given a time machine to make a few PR changes and adding some GDDR5 RAM and that forecast could easily have been true.. If Sony put out weaker hardware at a higher price in comparison to Microsoft, would "games sell consoles" still have resulted in a 2:1 sales advantage for PS4?..
Sony has played this generation masterfully so far, no doubt, and for the better part of the first three years, "better hardware" and "better mulitplats" has been at the core of that narrative.. Look at the most sold games on these platforms and tell me why multiplatform games are leading the charge.. These days, unless you're Nintendo, console exclusives are great additions but AAA multiplats out number exclusives by a very large margin in both quantity and sales and those are what's truly selling these consoles on the wider scale..
Just because Sony 1st parties have finally put out Uncharted 4 and Horizon in the last year doesn't mean you can rewrite history..
Rewrite what history, exactly? You act like specs are the only thing that put the Xbone under at its launch and that is purely silly. Meanwhile, power didn't win the generation for the 3DO, XBox, or the PS3 before this.
Ya'll don't have an entirely coherent platform at this point, so you are looking for a quantifiable variable to turn things around DESPITE history.

Power doesn't matter until the system that they masturbate to every night is no longer the power house. No more masturbation.
Can I just say that it was actually just fun to laugh at XBox fanboys after the reveal of the Bone because it was nowhere near the machine that it was being built up to be by the ProjectNatalFan reality distortion field? PS4 showed its balls first and you guys were SO SURE that MS was gonna empty the money vault to give the world more power than it knew what to do with.
Only for them to turn around and screw the pooch astronomically. It was good times. Power was a centerpiece of the conversation since the Lems made a weekly talking point of cross-platform performance last generation when developers struggled with the PS3. It all turned into an ownage omellete on your faces, and yes, we laughed.
Meanwhile, the same natural market forces that have existed for decades took over and the PS3 caught up/overtook the 360. Why? Games sell consoles. Simple as that. People knew precisely what to expect from the PS4 and it has been nothing but good news for gamers ever since.
I wish consoles would just die period, and all future gaming development continued on the PC.
No more exclusives.
No more wasted time optimizing for all of these different architectures.
No more paying a yearly fee just for the "privilege" of playing games over the internet. (seriously wtf?)
More time could be spent creating engines that simply scale well on a wide range of hardware, as the base architecture is all the same. Suddenly a $400 PC really could deliver better graphics than anything the current gen consoles can offer.
A great example of this is the Fox Engine used in MGSV. Looks amazing on a high end PC, but still runs on a potato. Did an excellent job creating a good looking open world for MGSV, but also an INCREDIBLY detailed "on rails" experience, with the demo for Silent Hills.
Steam big picture is already close to delivering the "console" experience of sitting on the couch with a controller in your hands, but imagine how much faster it would improve if EVERYONE was using it?

Well I am all for that but I don't think Steam should be the only source for gaming. However, games should simply be available to gamers regardless of platform. But the main problem is fanboys. They love dick riding the company of their choice and that dick riding is the biggest problem in gaming today. Just browse the first page of this forum and read any articles at gaming any outlet.
@Vatusus: Are you serious?.. The entire industry had Microsoft predicted as dominating this generation..
What delusional fantasyworld are you posting from???
After the failure of the first Xbox, Microsoft:
All of that and Microsoft still came in last place.
Not a single one of those things is true this gen.
And Xbox One deadenders are still trying to pretend the Xbox One bombing in sales just a bad as the first Xbox is all because of a bad E3???
LOL
@Pedro: Agreed, not sure why anyone would be a fan of either console. Both are proprietary garbage ecosystems designed to lock you in and take as much of your cash as possible.
And yes, I'm a PC user (not really elitist) who is not necessarily "butthurt", but shall we say...... "irritated" that I would have to buy a PS4 if I want to play Bloodborne or FFXV. I flat out refuse to buy a console just for 2 freaking games.
Closed ecosystems are never good for any industry. Ask any IT manager how much of a fan they are of Oracle lol.

FFXV may come to the PC later this year. By the time its released you will have a better version all round because the console version was a bit rough around the edges but they are working on improving the game.
@Pedro: But I want it now dammit! I may be born in 79, so not technically a millennial, but I do feel entitled to everything I want immediately! :P
@appariti0n:
Just buy everything you want. No one is locking you to just one company, y'know. With the power of money, EVERYTHING is accessible to gamers.
@killered3: I could, I just refuse to on principle. I bought a PS3 early in it's lifespan looking forward to all the quality JRPGS that would surely come down the pipe, just like the PS2 had right?
Let's just say I was sorely disappointed.

Thats simply shitty and it needs to die. Gaming is currently the only entertainment that is still hardware locked.
I've had a machine that's been on par with Scorpio specs for the last 3+ years. It's called a PC.
What crowd are Microsoft even aiming for? It's literally a low-mid tier PC.
Oh Microsoft, releasing more systems than they are games.
Three systems at the end of this year. So, they released less than 3 games over the past 4 years. The logic is weak with this one.
@Liquid_: Yep, and since the original core i7 launched in 08, the yearly increase in performance for processors has really really stagnated.
The most common objection I hear to PC gaming is how often one is forced to upgrade their PC to stay curernt, but heck, I've been running the same CPU since 2010, and can still run most games at 1440p, ultra (or mostly ultra with a few things knocked down to high) at well over 60 FPS. Obviously I have gone through a few video cards in that time, however I didn't NEED to, I just wanted to.
Metal gear solid 5 actually runs maxed out, with Nvidia DSR set to 4K. That's ridiculous!

The stagnation of hardware can be viewed as a good thing. More focus on the software.

I think you need to google it to understand how and when its used. :)
@appariti0n:
Well refusing to buy on principle is more your problem then.
@Pedro:
It's not shitty, it keeps options available. Like I said, you could get every platform or you can keep yourself locked to one. You're only screwing yourself over by choosing to just stick to one platform.
Awww noooooo!! Pachter isn't going to like what I like?
I like how you know what you are going to like before you know what it is.
You must, you see it in this forum often "I know Persona 5 is going to be my GOTY" or statements like that are said often in SW before a game comes out. Why cant I bullshit like everyone else?

Just trying to help you out.
@metalslimenite:
You're right. I'm just saying that everything out there is available for anyone to enjoy already. Just buy it if you want to! You don't have to do that, of course but don't whine about being locked out of certain games because you made that decision.

No, he's screwing Microsoft/Sony over, rather than allowing ourselves to be screwed over, albeit just for the cost of a console. Unfortunately there aren't enough of us out there making the decision to do the same.
If enough folks follow suit, there won't BE a console market to screw gamers over anymore.
Its ultimately about the games at the end of the day, something that Playstation seems to have no problem with in the near future compared to Xbox exclusives which are starting to fizzle out. Scorpio will ultimately be a niche product. It is for people that want a pc but dont want a PC so you might as well get a PC.

What the fu** are you smoking now?
What industry predicted MS would win this gen? The only fools who believe that was MS and EA,by no chance the industry was on MS side in fact before the xbox one was even confirm to have those measures and have weak ass spec the PS4 had a bigger list of developers on its side,hell indies alone were abandoning MS in droves,the PS3 already catch the xbox 360 even with a horrible launch price and also being the more expensive console all generation long.
PR changes didn't affect game support they affected sales of the unit,the PS4 had more support since the start,even with all the 180 and huge price drops the xbox one is doing more or less like the 360 which didn't enjoy those huge price cuts or free games in the first 3+ years of its life.
The xbox is dead in Japan and in EU as well 2 of the 3 markets are on lock with PS not to mention world wide outside US big time to.
Multiplatforms were always the biggest seller on PS dude so i don't see where you are going weaker like the PS1 or ps2 or stronger like the PS4 multiplatforms always sell better,that means nothing.
Bullshit 2 of the highest games this gen are exclusive in fact the highest rated game this gen is Zelda,Uncharted 4 is also very high rated by the way.
Dahhhh obviously multiplatforms are more than exclusive dude there are far more 3rd parties than first parties my god.
Yeah lest Ignore TLOU and continue to hype Gears,forza and other multiplatforms for xbox one.
"all the people are happy with their xbox" Yep, that's totally why I sold mine today.
So you had 2 XB1's then?
Screw the resolution. Focus on frame rate first. 1080p/60fps is better than 4K/30fps and requires less GPU power. It is important that the Scorpio does not have a CPU bottleneck like the shit PS4 Pro. This should have been the standard at the start of the generation and Scorpio is going to suck if it can not do 1080p/60fps with all games. I will be playing on PC at 1440p/144fps (variable G-Sync), but I don't want the peasants to suffer sub 60fps any longer. It is inhumane. hehe :)
At this point if they don't have game that people want, there is no point having a lot of power ...
And since they offert most of their game for PC as well ... they are kind of ... y'know... unwanted.
If Sony continue to pull out great game like Horizon and Persona 5 and then Nintendo continue to roll with the Switch ... Xbox is already done for
@appariti0n:
Microsoft and Sony will continue to exist with or without you. You're only hurting yourself.
@BassMan: Yup, this whole "bigger number = better" has been going on for decades. It's all about smart advertising creating the need/want in people's minds.
It's the reason why people are duped into believing 4K is better and 1080p looks like crap, even though I would take a high polygon count/texture resolution game with realistic shadows, reflections and lighting with good anti-aliasing at 1080p 60 fps over a low polygon piece of trash at 4K 30 fps any day of the week.
Advertising can do amazing things really. Remember the Sega Genesis "blast processing" campaign in the 90's? Convinced a whole bunch of people that the Genesis must be superior to the super nintendo, because it's core clock was faster!
Or even better yet, how about DeBeers convincing generations of women that spending 6 months of your salary on a fricking worthless rock was a solid investment?
Awww noooooo!! Pachter isn't going to like what I like?

LOL for all I know I may be upgrading my PC this fall instead of a Scorpio. I know my Xbox pals are all on board for it but my sights are on a Switch right now.

I hear you with the bullshit advertising and marketing... Genesis does what Nintendon't. LOL Classic. Don't get me started on how much of a waste of money jewelry is... Fuckin joke.
@Shewgenja: I clearly said specs and PR issues.. Let me ask you this: If the PS4 was on the opposite side of "resolution-gate", "DRM gate", and all the other PR missteps Microsoft made, but the actual exclusive games that released were the same, would the PS4 be up 2:1?.. Would the PS4 even be in the sales lead, especially in the US, at all?.. if so, why?..
"games sell consoles" right?.. specs didn't matter right?..
@appariti0n:

@Pedro:

That is not options. Buying multiple hardware that are similar is a waste of money. The only reason it exist is because of fanboys. Options would be being able to play any game of your choice regardless of the system you own. You cannot argue that having less availability of games on one system is more options because its not.
One of the few times Pachter is right. This late into the gen no one gives a shit about power, they want games to justify their purchase. The type of gamer in the market for a console now is looking for value in their purchase. They want a console that's reasonably priced with a ton of games. It's the reason the OG PS4 is slaying the competition and will continue to do so for a long time. The people that care about power are the early adopters at the beginning of the gen. Once that ship sailed MS lost their chance, they screwed up at the beginning of the gen when they could capitalize on power. Now they've lost momentum and their marquee franchises are stale and they are fighting and losing an uphill battle. PS4's momentum is too great to overcome now. Scorpio won't do anything to stop their losing this gen by a landslide.
@gfxpipeline: It's relatively common knowledge that based upon the momentum of the 360 and the initial specs (prior to Sony going with GDDR5 at the last minute), analysts had Microsoft running away with this gen, at least in the US and other territories where the the 360 was strong anyway..
