I find it so sad that Alan Wake had so much potential back when it was a PC exclusive. Back when it was an open world game and just looked so much better. I know graphics don't make the game, but they can really add to the immersion. Just take a look at this video from 2006 (yea, that's FOUR years ago) and make sure you watch the end. That four year old version of the game looks (not just in graphics, but also in the fact that it is truely an open world) so much better than the XBox 360 version that has recently come out.

I hope that this will be like the old Far Cry case again. In which the PC got the good version and the consoles got their own version (which sucked). Maybe, just maybe Remedy can still deliver on the original game that was shown to us all those years ago.

I agree, that game had me so hyped when it was announced as a PC exclusive. The potential lost is just sad.

That was when Alan Wake was intended to be a sandbox, which was over 4 years ago. Its still a superb game and contrary to what many say it's not as linear as everyone thinks.

Again, graphics are only a minor problem (the game looks pretty good on the 360, not the best, but pretty good). It is the idea of a psychological thriller set in an open world could have been truely great. Also the physics that where available could have been a very amazing addition.

Dude, I still play games lie Planescape: Tourment, System Shock 2, and others because they have amazing gameplay, story/plot, and other qualities yet they have horrible graphics (even though I think P:T still looks great).

Remedy made the game they wanted to make in the end, not the game you wanted them to make. Simple as that. Sometimes ideas only work well as ideas, and evidently they felt the sandbox for their game was one of those.

Is there a way to get Planescape Torment to run in 1920x1080 without looking weirded out? I really want to try this game out having seen so much praise for it.

I sold my 360 two and a half years ago because I got all the games on the PC and the exclusives were horrible in comparison to the PS3 and PC exclusives. Besides, I would gladly take my high end GPU, high end CPU, lots of RAM, and SSD over a crappy console with a watered down game any day.

It's actually kinda funny, they were thinking that they would make more money if it was 360 exclusive but by VG Chartz numbers its not looking very good. Would have been soo much better if it was only on PC

So more or less you are upset you cannot play it, since it is not on PC?

I actually prefered to linear take. Open world would have broken the flow of the story imo. Graphics aren't that important in this case really since most of the good stuff happens at night anyway.

I highly doubt it was their choice... It was only when Microsoft Game Studios picked it up that it when on 360 and then became a 360 exclusive. They muscled them to do so.

Just watch this, it is an evolution of the trailers since 2005. Notice when MGS picks it up and the systems it will be on.

Actually, check this out. It gives it a widescreen look, but I don't think it gives it 1080 support.

I hope this helps you. This is my favorite game ever, so I hope you can try it out and love it as much as I do.

Really dude? You honestly think that a developer would turn down something with pockets as deep as Microsoft? If you do the that is just sad.

Like I said, I hope that the original concept/idea for the game is still on the backburner and is set for PC gamers to play some day. I'll give it a year, maybe a little more. If nothing happens, then I will play the watered down version on a friends XBox... Shame.

That's my point. It could have been a really great game that would have been much more than "just a rent". Look at a game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:SoC. It is an open world shooter with some slight RPG elements, and it has the greatest (obviously my opinion, but not a rare one) atmosphere in any game. It's graphics (when vanilla) are kind of poor, but it is just so deep and involving of a shooter.

So? All games could have been "so much more" on any superior system. You can sit there and argue all day as to how or why so and so game could have been better on PC, but it still won't mean anything. Why? Because it's not on PC and it most likely never will be.

Simple as that.

There was an article or whatever where Crytek said every now and then they had to cut content from all versions of the game because it couldn't be scaled down to consoles.

How can you possibly think that in this world? Just look at hollywood and all of the movies based on comics and video games. Most of them have aspects of the source material changed for the movie in order to appeal to a wider audience in order to... make money. Examples, Watchmen, Kick Ass, X-Men, and plenty of others (still a few great films, Kick Ass my favorite of this year). And most of which the original creator/author was involved, yet still a change to their original imagining/idea/concept...

Sure, they could have been more on consoles as well, but at some point you have to ship a title. You could keep adding and improving anything, and any armchair gamer can speculate on what could have been. Does nothing and proves nothing.

Just so everyone knows that area exactly (parking lot and warehouse building) is in the game. But there is fencing preventing you from going anywhere outside it. You go inside and fight a massive group of enemies to a poets of the fall song (if you clicked the radio on)

Leads me to think the game that was created as one whole big environment is still there. They just fenced and walled it off for xbox. Man it would be sweet if they unleashed the real version for the pc.

Because I can list just as many counter examples of projects that stayed what they were in the creators visions. Point being? Remedy said they made the game they wanted to with the options and tech available. Unless you have something besides speculation, I am going with the creative people behind the game. And if you are not satisfied with their decisions, oh well. I have many a gripes with games that I felt should have been handled differently, but my opinions are not important in the matter.

[QUOTE="windsquid9000"][QUOTE="lawlessx"] you've played crysis 2?lawlessx

There was an article or whatever where Crytek said every now and then they had to cut content from all versions of the game because it couldn't be scaled down to consoles.

crap really? i had no idea :(

They said it was a rare occurrence, but the fact that it had to be done still annoys me :x

[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"][QUOTE="brennan7777"]I'm pretty sure they made the game MS wanted them to make.brennan7777

After their other titles, why would they all of a sudden give up what they wanted to make? You people just really want to demonize and blame MS for Remedy not making the game you guys wanted, don't you?

i dontWANT to blame microsoft, but i'm pretty positive it was microsofts idea to can the PC version.

give it afew months...PC version will be announced.

Or, developing two platforms was too much work for Remedy, and they did not want to farm out porting. Who knows?

[QUOTE="windsquid9000"] One could say the same for a lot of games.SpinoRaptor24

And that's the sad part. Far Cry 2, Crysis 2, Fallout 3, FEAR 2, Dues Ex: IW, Call of Duty series, Elder Scrolls... the list goes on. Most still great titles, but could have been so much more.

So? All games could have been "so much more" on any superior system. You can sit there and argue all day as to how or why so and so game could have been better on PC, but it still won't mean anything. Why? Because it's not on PC and it most likely never will be.

Simple as that.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was system wars... Fact is, those game could (and most likely would have) beem better had they been PC exclusives. Myself, being a PC gamer for the most part, have to feel bad that a possible experience was taken away from me.

I know I will get flamed for this, but I really wish that consoles would end and gaming would only exist on the PC. There would still be compitition in hardware (Intel, AMD, nVidia, ATI) and in software (the developers and publishers).

This way, every game would have the most potential and not limited to consoles hardware (not just in GPU, CPU, RAM, HDD, etc, but also the horrible controllers that console gamers are forced to use.

Shame.

If the publisher would kill the developers vision for their product, yes, I do. I believe that some people actually have spines.

Everyone has a price. Perhaps Microsoft gave them a VERY good offer for making it a 360 exclusive? In any case, since the game became exclusive it was then limited to 360 hardware (not taking advantage of cutting edge PC hardware like Remedy was pushing for), which I'm assuming sacrifices had to be made and the whole sandbox style gameplay that Remedy envisioned had to be scrapped for technical reasons. This is all speculation of course but I would say this particular scenario is not far fetched.

If PC was such a great and special market, gaming would be strictly on PC, but consoles exist for a reason. A few actually. So enjoy the developers who deal with PC only, and let the other gamers enjoy what they prefer.

Well carry on with your wishful thinking. Won't get you anywhere and it all it serves is to create meaningless arguments such as these.

You can lament all you want, but it still won't bring the dead back to life.

I found this

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=234693

It doesnt really give the technical reason as to why it was canned for PC, but i found something very peculiar about it see if you can see what i see.

Neither is the one I suggested. So we have nothing to go on but the developers word and speculation. I will go with the developer on this one then.
