[QUOTE="lordreaven"][QUOTE="timmy00"]People sell games for many reasons. That not going to stop the people selling games they bought. It may help but not stop it.

I know, but when they complain a 4 hour Sp with lackluster MP game dosn't sell well they blame pirates, when it sells medicore they blame used game buyers. I'm just curious why they should get money from an game thats alreadyy been bought?

Let say I go shopping for Metro 2033. I see a new game and a used game. I buy the used game. There 60$ they could have made. Yes someone may buy it eventually but sometime games just don't sell. The used game I bought could have save the publisher some money if I bought it as new.

However I will agree that people just like to point fingers when their games don't sell. They just want to blame something.

You make very fair points.

Pretty much every goods manufacturer on the face of the planet has to deal with the 2nd hand goods market yet publisher think they should get some kind of special treatment in this regard.

Ugh, why are people still defending this ridiculous movement designed to rinse even more money from consumers? If I bought a used car but the dealership told me I no longer had access to the brakes because I'm 'cheating', there'd be uproar. So what makes games companies think they have the right to do this kind of thing? It's absolutely disgusting.

I agree with them. They have every right to limit features in games not bought new. They're losing profit, its only natural for them to take action against it. I don't see it as some Activision-esque evil personally, just business.Maybe it sucks for us, but I would do the same in their position.

Yes it is, and they will likely get away with it... It won't surprise me if next gen consoles are steamified, killing the rental and used market compleetly...

I agree with him, devs and publisher gets screwed by buying used games which is why I only buy games used if I can't find them new ... which is extremly rare

I guarantee you if limiting features in used cars was possible, manufacturers would do it as well. Its not like we're being cheated for buying it used, we're being forced to make a choice. Buy it cheaper used with limited features that we can gain back for a certain price (in instances, this is still the better deal) or by it brand spanking new and support an industry we all love?

eh, I'm fine with that if it's a certain publisher. but then the developer side leaves you feeling guilty if you really enjoyed the game.

NO, making half games for 60 bucks then releasing dlc in the same week is cheating!!!

That's not going to do anything.

you know what would do something? if devs lowered the games launch prices. thats why game sales are big in nov. black friday you get a ton of new games for 35 bucks. that one day prolly counts for the whole month i bet.

I got 30 cents for a $60 game. I was very disappointed. Saw the same game on their shelf a few days later going for, like, $30 used. :\

Bladecutter56
Ugh, why would you sell a game for 30 cents? I'd rather burn it.

It has nothing to do with being charged for it twice. The number of people who go out and buy a used game over a new one forces them to lose sales that they wouldn't if people bought the new games once. Its not like they're trying to make it illegal to buy used games, they're offering incentives to buy them new ones instead so they make a profit.

Yeah i agree that bying a game used and expecint support is kinda wierd... But actively trying to prevent used games sales is kinda low.

On the other hand, why retails should get paid for the same game twice, and sometimes, even charging a used game as a new one.

It could. Some people will still sell their game they bought but it may really reduce it. Though I be one happy gamer if that happens. :D

I guess I could agree with the online function if its constantly costing them. But used games are important, it forces the publishers to play fair with their pricing. On steam for example, some are still selling games for £30 that aren't really worth that amount.

They should understand we can't constanly shell out full price.

plus someone already paid them for that copy, they don't wan't it anymore I might, it's called recycling ;).

But THQ have got a nerve to treat used games buyers like pirates.

And to be honest they aren't actually mad at us, it's chain stores like GAME who sell used games for quite a bit and don't share the profits with games companies. Publishers have to work with them and spend on marketing with them.

Well then they need to make better stuff. Like Marka1700 and skooks said, you have the right to sell something that you bought. It is YOUR property.

quoted for truth lmao. if devs don't want games to be sold in the first place, they would make their games with top production values in mind. some devs are obviously out for a quick buck, thus used game sales areborn.

because retailers actually get very little from a games initial sales, they make there money on preowned games, i know my local gameststation only exists because of used games sales, publishers are ripping us off anyway, 40 quid for a game that cost them about 2 quid to make, thats not the point anyway, selling the things we buy on to another person is a basic human right, once i have paid for it, it belongs to me, i can do what i like with it,if they don't like it, TUFF.

So you're irritated that a publisher is commenting on their loss of profit?

I don't get this thread. Both sides can cry rivers, but the publisher needs to make money. >_>

I don't understand this concept of entitlement peopel and devs think they have to games. Why exactly is used games not legitimate when virtually used everything else is considered fine?

Because you don't have to patch a used chair, or keep servers running up for a used painting do you?

I don't get this thread. Both sides can cry rivers, but the publisher needs to make money. >_>

so basically only one side can cry a river.

but i have no reason to cry, i'm getting great prices for used games. i'll laugh if anything

and no i'm not "irritated that a publisher is commenting on their loss of profit" that's their thing. and i'm just letting them know (by voting with my wallet) that I, as the consumer, don't agree with their business model. :) that's how it works.

Making bad games is worse.IronBass

QFT. I'll say the same to them I say to the textbook publishers, people buy used because of a lack of value, not because of the price. A lot of textbooks come with a single use code now, and you only get the code if you buy new. So you're looking at 200 + dollars for a textbook that has a very finite useful life and no resale value. Same with a game.

In the case of textbooks I buy used as often as I can because the books are just a rip off. With games I buy new all the time, and I like to resell them when I'm done with them. In the case of textbooks they also make money for used sales.

Them removing features from used games means that the game is less valuable to me. If it's 60 bucks for 2 games, but one has a resale value and one does not, then that game with no resale value will need to have a massive lasting value to make up the difference. THQs games do not, so I guess I don't care if they'rebutthurt by people buying used.

used games for sale at a store in the mall next to new games is wrong in my book. People defending it are just dumb, pirating games in my country isnt illegal, I dont do it because the devs get nothing for it... buying used game is the same result in the end, I played a game and didnt pay the devs. This is why publishers ar going to move towards gaming being a service.

when you go to buy dvds do you see some used ones next to the new ones for like $2 less? Do game publishers charge people $10 bucks a pop to view games in a theater? Does it cost 20 million dollars to write a book?

[QUOTE="lordreaven"] I know, but when they complain a 4 hour Sp with lackluster MP game dosn't sell well they blame pirates, when it sells medicore they blame used game buyers. I'm just curious why they should get money from an game thats alreadyy been bought?

They see it as selling an experience, like you just walked out of the theater and sold your ticket to someone waiting in line. Which just makes it official robbery in their minds.

You cheat us when you expect us to pay $60 for a 10-30 hour game.

I see their point, and actually, i'm not against the solution of buying the multiplayer feature online if you have a used game, hopefully, will make used games cheaper and it will gave some profits to developers, profits that they actually deserve to beging with.

I don't understand this concept of entitlement peopel and devs think they have to games. Why exactly is used games not legitimate when virtually used everything else is considered fine?

I never say is not legitimate or something, but as with any, they made the product, so they deserve the profit, as easy as that.

They already got profit from the used game; someone bought it in the first place.

"bad games" are completely subjective. Darn them for trying to make a living, darn them all! They should spent 1 billions of dollars for every game they make!alexside1

because you must spend that much to make a good game...

and it's up to each person to decide if they make bad games. looking at review scores and user scores is an indicator that consumers aren't likin many THQ games.
