The Valve love in this thread is getting out of control. Even as PC developers go, Blizzard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Valve, and it really isn't close.
Valve hasn't been associated with anything innovative since counterstrike, and they didn't even make counterstrike, that was modders who used "their" engine, and I use the word "their" loosely because Valve borrowed a quake engine to make HL1.
HL2 was overrated with it's tride and true formulaic design, and CS:Source was a travesty. They didn't take any risks or any extra steps to advance the CS series at all, and when COD4 came out, CS was instantly irrelevent.
I guess Portal is okay, but TF2 was a joke that rests again on nostalgia more than innovation. Left4Dead is a great game, but now it looks like they are going to take the lazy route and milk the series by coming out with new maps and calling it a new installation of the game.
Valve isn't worthy of the love they are getting. They never advance an industry technically like Epic does, and though they are decent story tellers, their games still fall short in that department by companies like Bioware and Blizzard. Maybe 10 years ago you could make a case (a rather weak one given Epic was still around with their Unreal series), but today....no.....just.....no.
