[QUOTE="delta3074"][QUOTE="GreyFoXX4"] I can live with it, by snubbing Valve and their games from being installed on my pc. See that was easy, my descion my computer, my money.GreyFoXX4
good for you, gabe will be really upset that you have snubbed him, i'm sure he will spend all night crying into his kool aid,lol

LOL, he just might be doing that, http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=3917 evidently the first game was so great that there is 20,000 people wiling not to buy the 2nd game after being had for $60 for the first one, since all in here know that it was not worth a $60 investment by anyone.

Oh no! 20k signatures (not necessarily people) said they won't buy L4D2, or just but down a silly remark like all petitions! I wonder how many of them are angry sony fanboys, mad at Valve snubbing the PS3?

Its the fact that they did lose sleep enough that they had to make a comment off of a measly 20,000 signatures in the petition. I mean I don't even want left4dead on the ps3, I could have gotten it for the pc but didn't after trying the demo on the pc. It is a over priced 1/10 of a game. And people playing that for 80 to 100 hours really need to find something else to play. And to keep stating about the AI director is laughable, wow a game that puts enemies in different places. But the fact that he don't want to learn nothing else or be BOTHERD by it, mean our money isn't good enough for him. Geez, he is slapping a game together cause ITS EASY and yall drool over it.

[QUOTE="GreyFoXX4"][QUOTE="delta3074"]yeah, because half life 2 is crap right? and because PC gamers all chose the cell and blu- ray over quad cores and DVD Rom? oh that's right they didn't did they, PC gamers would rather have traditional tech and valve are a PC dev, it's SONY that are going to lose out because of this, mark my words, valve won't be the last dev to snub the ps3, serves SONY right for trying to force change on people that they didn't want.adamosmaki

What processor do you have in your pc? Do you still have 31/2" floppy drive? Do you still use DOS? Times move on and if you don't you will be forgotten. Or you wake up one day and say those silly kids, I remember when I used to count on my toes to do math.

We know times move on and the install base of pc's based on x86 architecture using the latest dual and quad cores is much much much larger than the 22million ps3's using cell processor. You say times move on and yet the ps3 has a 2004 designed Cpu and sony already stated they want a 10year life cycle out of ps3, Good luck comparing ps3's cell processor with the new cpu's that are coming from intel and amd ( 6 and 8 cores cpus plus alot of other additions like sse4.2, etc etc etc) let alone cpus that will come in 2-3 years.

In fact q6600 raytracing vs cell raytracing

the q6600 is almost twice as fast as the cell and i'm not gonna even bother posting ray-tracing using GPu's like the gtx260 since they are 5-6x times faster

Wow, your boasting about how great processors are with quad core and dual core and soon to be 6 and 8 cores lol. Man Valve isn't even going to do anything special with a dual core cause its different and to hard for him, and just isn't worth his time. I'm just curious though why is the cell processor in the Guiness book of world's record and not a intel or amd processor? Why is IBM using cell processors for all of its servers, just curious. But anyhow Valve isn't going to push anything, nothing heavy anyway, or technology.

P.S. That raytracing bs links you listed, why aren't you showing the 360 doing raytracing?

i agree with you on this... thats a stupid thing to do, we discuss games in here so if one should criticise Gabe Newell it should be related on his work only.... he is a bit irritating sometimes specially whendiscussing PS3, they surely hate that console down at Valve :)

I don't think they hate the console, there is many developers that don't work with ps3.. does it mean they hate it? no, is just a business move, and Is his/partners company if they see that ps3 isn't a good move people needs to respect that, just like insomniac Games is free to create a game on xbox360,but they are happy with Sony,Valve feels the same with PC/Xbox360.

It's official Valve just doesnt have the resources, knowledge or money it takes to be a true developer.

Lol ps3 fanboys crying a fair amount. Valve release top content. All thier games are always great and of high production value. They find it not worth the time and effort for the small amount of value and gain they would get when developing on the ps3. Its smart business.

And why shouldn't PS3 owners be upset? You said it yourself, Valve release top content. For them to just ignore the PS3 altogether is a serious blow for gamers who don't own a PC/360.

ok good point... i do respect Valve and their decisions, most probably as i said other times they dont have the resources to also create/port games on PS3.. However you mentioned Insomniac, which since the PS1 days they always had a special business relationship with Sony, so its not a good example to use for comparing with Valve, but i did get you point..

Also i never seen/read any statement from Insomniac which somehow criticised 360 or any other console since PS1 days, unlike Valve which in more than one occasion they expressed their dislike towards PS3..

Why show 360? i'm mainly a pc gamer. Also valve is gonna develop source engine 2 ( if they havent already started ) and i'm sure they will take advantage of new technology. The good think about source engine when first came is that it introduced alot of features for new Cpu's and gpu's of 2004 to take advantage and in the same time it was very scalable and most likely source 2 will have a bunch of new features like ambient occlusion etc etc and stay scalable

Sounds like some of the employees at Valve need to start taking some classes at Naughty Dog University.Jared2720
why? have Naughty Dog made games that worked for PC 360 and ps3? you can hardly compare Valve not wanted to spend resources on the ps3 to a developer that only does ps3 games.

better at devoloping games for ps3 then valve, (DONT TWIST MY WORDS :P )Generalmojo
I think the whole point is... Making a PS3 game is kind of like forcing yourself to eat a plate of spaghetti with two butter knives. You can do it, get really good at it, and then claim the title of being the best at eating spaghetti with butter knives, but you're still engaging in a needlessly difficult exercise that most people wouldn't want to try and do. In this case, Valve has just outright said "We're fork and spoon people... No interest in going to a restaurant where we have to do something retarded like that when all we want to do is go home full.`` Doesn`t make them lazy developers - just means they don`t want to waste time with the utensils when all they want is a good meal.

The Valve love in this thread is getting out of control. Even as PC developers go, Blizzard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Valve, and it really isn't close.

Valve hasn't been associated with anything innovative since counterstrike, and they didn't even make counterstrike, that was modders who used "their" engine, and I use the word "their" loosely because Valve borrowed a quake engine to make HL1.

HL2 was overrated with it's tride and true formulaic design, and CS:Source was a travesty. They didn't take any risks or any extra steps to advance the CS series at all, and when COD4 came out, CS was instantly irrelevent.

I guess Portal is okay, but TF2 was a joke that rests again on nostalgia more than innovation. Left4Dead is a great game, but now it looks like they are going to take the lazy route and milk the series by coming out with new maps and calling it a new installation of the game.

Valve isn't worthy of the love they are getting. They never advance an industry technically like Epic does, and though they are decent story tellers, their games still fall short in that department by companies like Bioware and Blizzard. Maybe 10 years ago you could make a case (a rather weak one given Epic was still around with their Unreal series), but today....no.....just.....no.

Gabe* has said he doesnt like the PS3.

To think the professional game designers I know are just as opinionated as everyone else :?

So any independant developer who has developed for paticular systems, excluding another should be highlighted too, due to this logic? Right.

Well I guess that works both damn ways, for all platforms.

Eh, I think that analogy is a harsh one. You make it seem as if it is crazy inconvienent to make games on all three consoles or learn the PS3 archetecture, which isn't the case. Devs have always said the PS3 archetecture is easier to learn then the PS2s but still not as easy as the direct 360/PC relationship in archetecture. It's just a porting process, its not like they are making the game from the ground up for all three. My analogy would be Valve are the kind of people that like to eat pizza, burgers and chicken nuggets and if you decide to go to a restaurant that don't have those dishes they won't go because they won't try anything new. They are comfortable with their expereience and routine.

If my analogy is too harsh (which I agree, it is - but it's just a matter of degree), yours is *way* too easy on the PS3. This isn't just a matter of preference, according to Valve, it's an issue of difficulty. The PS3 isn't different but equal, it`s different and more difficult. If your analogy were to work, it`d have to stop talking about `preferences` and "comfort zones" and start talking about going from finger food to slimy pieces of sashimi with a chopstick - something that's simply more difficult to eat.

Yes, people should stop playing insanely fun games because you tell them too. Do you even read before you hit submit? You're being really immature because Valve bashed your favorite console. And the AI director is revolutionary. It keeps players guessing and on their toes looking out for some extra items thus insuring replay value. So now instead of just memorizing where all the items are and rushing through, it forces players to stick together and work as a team. And you call that laughable?

Then why is naughty dog only developing on PS3 when they can garner more money by developing on PC and 360?

Why is killzone 2 exclusive if they can garner more money by developing on PC and 360?

Because naughty dog and guerilla games are first party studios , unlike valve.Sony offer subsides to those two , M$ doesn't offer any to valve.

[QUOTE="Javy03"][QUOTE="Shafftehr"] I think the whole point is... No interest in going to a restaurant where we have to do something retarded like that when all we want to do is go home full.`` Doesn`t make them lazy developers - just means they don`t want to waste time with the utensils when all they want is a good meal.Shafftehr

Yes but here is the question. Is it more difficult because its different? That's what I think the problem is. They are used to making games a certain way with certain resources and they would have to relearn to make games for the PS3. But obviously after that initial investment in learning is it really still that difficult. I don't think so from looking at the track records of other devs who are making games for all 3. You make it seem like it will always be a learning process with the PS3 and never get easier, I feel that after learning it initially they will get used to it like all new or different tech and it will become second nature. Now Valve doesn't want to do that and that is their perogative but I lost alot of respect for these so called kings of devs. when they tell the public on one hand they wanna focus on bringing the best quality games and on the other hand say they don't wanna learn the PS3 archetecture because they dont see a point. Other devs do it.

Wow doesn't Gabe and co ditch the stupid excuses and straight up admit they dislike the PS3 and Sony? Using that PS3 is too complicated excuses makes them look like lazy devs. Everyone knows the people from Valve are far from lazy.
