[QUOTE="edo-tensei"][QUOTE="Dead-Memories"] He immaturely takes my words, replaces them with with what he wants to claim, and then goes around to insult me? Is that your measure of "ownage"? Anway, Sony has indeed contributed to the CONSOLE industry perhaps, but have struck themselves down this gen.Dead-Memoriesyeah they're not doing great this gen but according to your logic valve is not that good anymore since they seem unable to develop for ps3 unlike other devs, right? Again, if you read the thread, you would not be ignorantly accusing valve of not being able to develop on the PS3, but of course, you don't want to read the truth. lol I'm not accusing them of anything, they themselves have made that statement be known that they are unable to develop for ps3. The "truth" is that they simply don't want to, for some reason or another, because as far as I know everyone else is able to make games using the ps3 hardware. I then find valve's comment out of place and comming off as arrogant really. Truth is i the eye of the beholder my friend.
[QUOTE="Nephilim83"]Actually, only two maybe three of the dozen or so developers work for Sony. They express very honest and critical opinions on their "PS3 experiences." One actually offers a pretty negative view about it. So I'd say "No." No bias. AnnoyedDragon
It's the official Playstation magezine, the entirety of its contents are under their control, if there is a negative opinion it is only to add to the believability to what would be a majority of positives.
Nothing from any official magazine for any console is unbiased.
Believe what you want. I don't think they told those guys what they can and cannot say. Those guys may have buttered it up a bit, but there was a lot of logic in their comments and I think they know much better than you or anyone else on this thread what its like to develope for the PS3 and should have no reason to lie about it. If they did..... Rats. I just don't trust any developers anymore. Not even Valve. :P[QUOTE="Ryuuichi009"][QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]Is that not their job however? I mean an airplane engineering could find the new engine parts overly difficult and needlessly complicated and might prefer the old ones which worked just as well but isn't it his job to suck it up and work with the new parts? It ia a legitimate criticism, whenever the PS3 is criticised or falls behind they always blame everyone else and never accept that the console may be to blame.
It's petty to blame some of the leading developers in the industry when it is common knowledge PS3 uses a none standard CPU, one developers have consistently criticised as being difficult to develop for.
Verge_6
Eh not my loss I hate FPS anyway. Though they just port their PC game to the 360. I wonder what they would have done if the 360s engine had been difficult to work with as well.Their job is to turn a profit, a goal that could suffer greatly if they started developing games for the PS3.
valve is just lazy, they are the only developer who refuses to develop for ps3, look at infinity ward when valve was complaining about ps3 being complicated, infinity ward was releasing a perfect version of cod4.

Don't make Dead-Memoriesown you
[QUOTE="Dead-Memories"][QUOTE="edo-tensei"] yeah they're not doing great this gen but according to your logic valve is not that good anymore since they seem unable to develop for ps3 unlike other devs, right?Nephilim83Again, if you read the thread, you would not be ignorantly accusing valve of not being able to develop on the PS3, but of course, you don't want to read the truth. Again, you come of sounding very immature. What's to read in the thread? Did some of you come to the conclusion that Valve can develope for the PS3 and are just deciding not to? If that's the case then his statement stands true. It seems Valve has struck themselves down this gen, too. :P Valve would rather be creating new IP's with great gameplay and quality, then losing profits porting a game to the PS3. Which in all, is the summary of this thread.

[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"][QUOTE="mD-"]It never ceases to amaze me the extent you generalize and criticize PS3 users/fanboys. I've noticed now that you usually do this on a continuous basis to the point that it has been a consistent habit, lol... Anything negative PS3 criticism attracts you, lol. Nephilim83

It's petty to blame some of the leading developers in the industry when it is common knowledge PS3 uses a none standard CPU, one developers have consistently criticised as being difficult to develop for.
Well, the devs that are actually trying and learning this technology are actually praising it and prefer it in a lot of ways to the "standard" CPU. Just check out the July issue of PtOM. They seem to dig it. The xbox isn't going to stay the same forever. Eventually its going to have to utilize a new technology itself. When that happens will Valve give up or will they get their butts in gear and get with the times? If you wanna get with the times you gonna go with pc gaming. You think valve that is beign succesfull on pc and have succes in 360 so far are gonna go with a CPU aka cell that was designed in 2004 ( and you calling it the future) and has an install base of 20-25million ( the number of ps3's sold) or go with the 2 platforms with a more traditional architecture the one xbox 360 with an install base 30million and the other the PC with an install base of about a billion ( not all used for gaming but according to pcga there are about 200-250million gaming pc's others used for casual and others used for your half life type of gaming). So if they are gonna go somewhere with potential for more sales that will be the pc first and 360 after

I'm not the one being unreasonable here, neutral developers are always more trustworthy than those speaking in official magazines in regard to criticism on developing for a platform.
They wouldn't be allowed to speak in the magazine if their comments were anything but positive in majority.

i lol @some ppl that DONT KNOW HOW TO BUILD THEY OWN PC but yet can "diss" some of best developers on face of earth...
something is fishy here and im not talking about that guy sitting next to me
truth is - valve CAN and DID create game for PS3 before so its not that they dont know how to do it or something as ridiculous like that.
point is - its not economical
risk-benefit ratio is not good so why waste resources and time
imagine if World of Warcraft was to come to PS3
they would have to make LOT of things from scratch
for what?? for that few milions more?
they allready have so many players they dont need more, they would just potentialy loose money trying to port it to ps3

not really, ae did the orange box port not valve and either way if valve can infact develop for ps3 then it's even more hypocritical for them to diss the hardware. It's their lost anyways, if they don't consider ps3 to be a source of income then by all means keep developing for the pc and 360 it's their loss, ps3 owners are not going to miss their games after all the crap they talk about their platform of choice.Sometimes I don't get Valve. In the case of Episode 3, they have the engine, they have the story arc, they aren't building anything from scratch and on top of it all its probably a 5-7 hour game and its taking them longer to make then it takes most companies to make a full AAA game. They also gave the PS3 version of the Orange Box to EA... I mean really? It was a terrible port that eventually forced me to shell out for a new graphics card so I could play TF2. I love Valve games, always have, but seriously they are rather lazy in some regard. tman93In terms of getting Ep. III out the door...yeah, they have some serious issues there. But developing games for the PS3 and their adversity towards doing so is easily understandable. Completely deviating from their "One episode per year" claim...not so much.

it's ridiculous how people can be so convinced that they know what something is, even in the face of blatant evidence and readily accessible information to the contrary. makes me smile :) lol that's not dynamic lighting/shadows , that's a flashlight casting a decal/stain glass the shadows are baked into source engine's textures you can see shadows below on first floor if ur below a player on a second story building.[QUOTE="BoloTheGreat"]

Their games suck anyway. I have a good enough computer but I wouldn't waste my time on their games.Odrecno sorry they may be arrogant and all but hl1&2 deserve merits
I never understood why Sony decided to do a joint venture with IBM and Toshiba to create the Cell processor. Granted its great for somethings but not worth investing in and slapping into a console for games. Consoles should just go with a decent high end x86 processor so the devs can start pumping out high quality games and not have to spent countless years mastering a new piece of hardware like the KZ2 devs granted they did a beauty with it.
I am not saying we shouldn't advance technology, I am just saying a console isn't probably the best place to start implimenting it; however, putting a blu ray player in the PS3 probably helped sell more units in the long run.
Plus, there are now talks that the next consoles could be running on a GPU only with talks of the next nvidia GPGPU and CUDA programming. So there would be no point for the Cell if that happens. Idk, just my thoughts.
It's official Valve just doesnt have the resources, knowledge or money it takes to be a true developer.
whitetiger3521
You do realize Valve is one of the best developers in the world, right?

[QUOTE="modsAreWetodds"]valve's a pretty crap developer though get's way too much credit, company's like idsoftware deserve alot more.TimburyYeah and Id (John carmack) has also come on record to say the PS3 is difficult to develope for!
Saying its difficult to develop for and saying its a complete waste of time are two very different things. Valve has been saying this kind of stuff all gen so I don't think its a surprise.
The problem is, is that Valve wants consoles to be as open as PC. Which will probably never happen. There is a video on youtube with Gabe explaning this.
I see why all cows buy a high-end pc once they get a ps3.
druggyjoe3000
That would make sense, if the PS3 had no games.
On topic: Other devs are doing just fine, if they don't want to waste their time and money on it, then it's a wise business decision.
