[QUOTE="0rin"] You honestly don't think if MS had a standard HDD, devs wouldn't be doing the same thing for the 360?

krunkfu2

they wouldn't; the installation is becasue blu ray takes longer to load.

I have a hard time believing that considering Uncharted has little to no loading times.

yes and no, i'd prefer to have no installation and only have 1 sec load times, but on the ps3 if you didn't install the load times would be much longer so it is a good thing that is a must. But overall i don't like the size of the installation, i wish it was just the engine and that was it.

Uncharted is also second party and exclusive to the PS3, it was designed with the slower Blu-ray drive in mind. Also they were able to hide the load times behind gameplay... sort of like what Nintendo was doing with the GC.

Dude...you have no idea what you are talking about. PLease stop. UNcharted is arguably better graphically than DMC4 (I think anyway and yes I've played the DMC demo) and it has ZERO load times. There is no reason DMC couldn't have been done the same way. The fact that they didn't says more about how they make games than the BR.

And as someone already posted, they wanted to have install for the 360 version but MS told them no because of then on-standard HDD...so they had to choice but to just go with load screens.

ZIMdoom

It has little to do with rendering and more to do with AI coding access .

The more that goes on in the screen, the more coding is needed.

When there are multiple enimies, backgroung animations and other complex actions, that coding isn't stored together and the player has to jump around on a disc to pick up all of the information.

Again the information isn't stored in sequence, like say a music CD.

This can be witnessed on some games, where right before a boss appears for example, there is a slight lag as AI information is queued and loaded.

As other posters have said, I would only have a problem if more devs. make future game installation mandatory for the system. 5GB's is a lot but it's not as if you're stuck with the hard drive when it gets full; you can always buy another one for a reasonable price.

It's a nice benefit having the loading reduced, something that really should've been rectified this gen. It's one of my biggest peeves in gaming, especially if there are a lot of loading points. Streaming is a better approach imo.

Good or bad, Capcom should have done what Naughtdog did to get rid of loading times. Uncharted doesn't require HDD space nor does it have long load times.

I don't particularly care for forced installation. If I can avoid it by buying the game on another console, I will. Unless it's vastly superior on the PS3.

besides DMC4 and that golf game i can't think of another game that required that big of and installation most of the time it only 100mb or so uncharted barely hand any installation and it was good with very minor texture pop/screen tearing
