[QUOTE="rpgs_shall_rule"]So, just finished the demo. Consolization confirmed. Couldn't even turn the camera by moving the mouse to the sides. No panning the camera makes tactical play stupid too. At least they didn't get rid of the pause.... *cough* Witcher *cough* Skill trees, while interesting also look restrictive towards mods. Combat in general feels teh gimmicky. Not sure if there was an option to turn on combat text. Demo also had some bugs with leveling up and tactics. Bethany has a nice chest though :Dcain006

Why do people keep comparing the witcher and dragon age? Their combat is completely different.

I'm not... I was simply complaining about the lack of a pause button in Witcher 2. I still think DA2 is consolized though...

Face it DA2 still wouldn't be Baldur's Gate reincarnate even if it was PC exclusive. You can piss a moan about it being dumbed down for consoles, but the fact is NWN was pretty dumbed down from Baulder's Gate too and it didn't even have a console release.

Ilikemyname420

seriously the voice acting was laughablwe in that game. I know right, yup nerds will blame it on consoles when its the devs fault.

Dragon Age: Origins
- 1,000,000 Words
- 1,000 Cinematics
- 1,000 Characters
- 56,000 Spoken Lines
- 60 Hours of Gameplay

Dragon Age II
- 400,000 Words
- 2,500 Cinematics
- 500 Characters
- 38,000 Spoken Lines
- 40 Hours of Gameplay

DA2

when is more cinematics and less words bad? when is less characters bad? when is shorter length bad? In fact, cinematics allow for more action and body language, as well as tone in the conversation and that can get the point across far more than words alone And which is better, a foucsed 30 hour game, or a padded with filler 60 hour game? Never mind the fact that DAII is not a typical Bioware story, and even evolves storytelling in th egenre.

True, but the real meat of NWN was the toolset, the online multiplayer, quasi persistent world with a dungeon master, mods... too bad the actual campaign was pretty sucky.

LOL, I was just thinking the same thing; I might buy DA2 now instead. At least Bioware has proven to be incompetent PC devs so I won't get all sweaty about dumbing-down.

Yeah, i mean DA2 was expected. They even made videos showing how the PC version would play and all to give their fans some feedback. The demo was dumbed down but at least enjoyable, many people liked it. Crysis 2 on the other hand is a complete disaster, nobody in this forum liked the demo, norgt, not even incrysis liked it. But enough of Crysis, this is a DA thread.

Pressing A over and over again is not fun, no matter how you put it. Plus DA isn't about this, it's about the freaking strategy. There are games out there that do a better job and make you look way cooler when you press A.

When we're dealing with video games. :)

the problem with WRPG dialogue is sometimes its just not subtle....they have to explain every little thing. The conversations do not feel natural when this happens. Look at Enslaved's script, subtle and well written, but not alot of dialogue. The tones of their voices and body launguage of Monkey and Trip also speak volumes more than sheer words can.

I just played the demo and I found the gameplay far more enjoyable. There really isn't much difference from the original, its just sexier and a lor more interesting. No need for nerd rage elitism.

Honestly, DA:Origins combat sucked as well. Many don't find auto-attack much fun. You could walk away from most fights end-game fully confident that you're party could easily take on white/yellow mobs with your input. I felt more or less unneeded toward the endgame of DA:O. Although DA2's system of just hitting A over and over again isn't much better. Yeah it looks smooth, but honestly it adds very little to the game.

Auto-attacking makes combat feel uninvolved and disconnected, whereas pushing a is oversimplified and tedious. Bioware could have done much more, but as it stands they traded one average battle system for another.

Exactly. If they wanted to make a game like that, should have started a new franchise, and left their party-based fantasy RPGs to be proper games.

Auto attack? I've never used tactics in Dragon Age: Origins, since I preferred to manually control all my characters. But I agree that towards the endgame Dragon Age: Origins lacked any real challenge. The final boss was a joke, even on Nightmare.

Wow people can make some ignorant statements. I've gone and compared Origins with DA2, since I'm excited for it. To make matters straight. Auto attack can be enabled. You DON'T HAVE to press A over and over again. Other than that, the main difference combat wise is pace and style of attack animations. Really, that's all. The controls are the same, the ways to attack are used the same way. Really, besides changing up the battle animations, going with a different art style, and going to the now traditional Bioware dialogue system, there is little to no difference from how Origins played. People need to stop whining about what's not there.

This. I believe auto attack is on the console versions too (I think 1up said that in their stream). I loved the demo, and looking forward to picking this up in a week today.

I started playing Dragon Age 2 on PS3 earlier. Graphics are pretty darn bad. Some places they are REALLY bad. I was standing next to a small crowd of people and some of them looked like they came from an N64 game. I've been playing a Rogue and I've found most of the time I'm running around just pressing X with the occasional other symbol buttons but there's just a lack of strategy compared to Origins on PC.

For one the lighting is bad. The environments lack any substance or detail, they just look barren. Even the cities are boring. NPCs look bad in a lot of places (not enemy models). Water is just bad but at least there's not a lot of it. Surfaces look flat almost everywhere because there's a lack of bump/normal or paralax mapping.

Oh please. Bioware has gone out and said a bunch of times, you choose to play. They've refined the battle system where what you did is an option, but if you want to play it tactically, play it tactically. None of the stuff that was removed from the gameplay.

Maybe I WANT to press just any button and have something ****ing ball bustingly awesome happen.

And Dragon Age was a really boring game. A boring game with enormous stretches of really, really lame gameplay segments. The Fade parts were horrible.

Please what? I never played DAO on PS3 or Xbox, but I did play it on PC, which is what I said I compared DA2 on PS3 to. Once I play it on PC, I'll maybe have a better comparison but between DA2 on PS3 and DAO on PC, DA2 lacks as much thinking and strategy as DAO from what I've played so far. It's also easier in general and there's horrible back tracking through areas you've been to numerous times using the map.

On PC it could get pretty rough and require a decent amount of strategy for certain fights, pausing between attacks and such. There was nothing really to mash.

Same as consols. You think on hard and up on consols we just ran in and hoped for good roles. Stratagy was used too on systems.

GeneralShowzer

You are wrong when you say DA:O didn't had a deep combat system, probably didn't play it on pc. It was no button masher.

Ok forget about the combat, what about the dialog tree and the choices? That's ridiculous. ME was a light rpg with very black/white choices. Peoples would decide to play a renegade Shepard and would only choose the bottom choice. DA:O was different. It offered a lot of choices and had a lot of grey areas, not as simplified as ME. With this new system you have no idea what your character will say. There is only a word or 2 as a preview and you just hope the character says what you wanted for him to say. So much for roleplaying.

I dislike it very much. It's like there are these three pre-set paths for you. I feel like I'm watching something lightly interactive instead of me making the decision. ME2 rewarded you for being black/white. Wonder if DA II will do the same.

When has ME ever been black or white.

What?

Maybe I WANT to press just any button and have something ****ing ball bustingly awesome happen.

-TheSecondSign-

Then play Bayonetta or GoW.

And Dragon Age was a really boring game. A boring game with enormous stretches of really, really lame gameplay segments. The Fade parts were horrible.

-TheSecondSign-

Are you kidding me? It had an amazing gameplay. Maybe you played as a warrior, on normal in a console then yeah I agree with you. As for the fade, I just installed a mod and skipped it in my other playthroughs.

'Grats. You're part of the problem.

Special gamepad designed just for Dragon Age II:

Pad

tenaka2

There are to many buttons.

Indeed, need to get rid of those trigger buttons. Too complex for the average consolite and that big green button in the middle confuses me.

Oh please. Bioware has gone out and said a bunch of times, you choose to play. They've refined the battle system where what you did is an option, but if you want to play it tactically, play it tactically. None of the stuff that was removed from the gameplay.lx_theo

Playing demo on hard... and haven't paused once in combat yet, nor have I touched tactics. :D

Got my PC killed once though, but still finished the fight with no real trouble. That was the only time I took control of another character.

The original was on consoles, so.....No. Can't blame the consoles this time. Sorry PC fanboys.

lawlessx

most of the complaints made about the first game were from console owners...so yeah..full blame:P

I think it's pretty ridiculous to just ASSUME only console gamers didn't like the combat to DA:O. Heck, I know a PC Elitist in the real who hated DA:O because of the combat, but is in love with DA2.

PC Elitists need to get their heads out of their rears and stop acting like they are better than console owners. It's seriously just nerdy and pathetic.

You got baited by the lolfest TC so badly. Infact, i'm amazed moderators have even allowed this thread to continue.. It just invites flaming against a group of gamers lol.

Why does the dialogue wheel have to be in every BioWare game? Its not even that great of an addition to Dragon Age. From what I saw most of the time you're in a discussion you have three options and that it is it. That is even more simplistic than the Mass Effect 2 dialogue wheel.
