What is so scary about Amnesia: the Dark Descent?

I was playing it at a friend's house... and I have to say, I'm not getting it. Don't get me wrong, it has a great atmosphere, but why do so many people think it's "horrifying?" There are two types of monsters and one of them is invisible. To be perfectly honest, I found the game to be about as scary as Silent Hill Shattered Memories. (That is to say, not very.)

You have to be alone in a dark room wearing headphones, light some candles with some spell books lying around. Make sure you pour salt around your PC to strengthen the spiritual power in the area, you can't be wearing a shirt you must purchase a black robe with the appropriate symbles stitched on to it. Also it would be best to be underground.

Only then can you appreciate what Amnesia: the Dark Descent has to offer.

Right, because in order to get the full expierence of a horror game you SHOULD play it at a friend's house. :roll:

but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Is it a PC exclusive held to the same standards as console exclusives, or is it not? You have to pick one.

It's really not that scary I must agree. Some parts made me scream, but very short term. Silent Hill on the other hand....

I played it a buds house recently, except he gave me time, put the lights off with quality headphones. Its a pretty different experience as to what you'd get normally in a well lit room etc. Still, it's a bit overhyped in scare factor. There were a few select times were I was pretty freaked out though to the point of my arm hairs standing up.
