Nothing just internet hype.i5750at4GhzIt's what games used to be like before regenerating health and other such hand holding nonsense.

Lots of fighting from the get go, few cut scenes, minimal story, it's pretty much ALL action. It's just very long and you die a lot. It's really more like a survival horror game actually. I've never been so scared walking down a corridor in a game until the first game.

I think you're confusing slow paced with being patient so you dont die all the time, and its true if you are not a patient person you probably wont be any good at Dark Souls.

The sense of reward is slow paced so no it's not a game for instant gratification. I just don't consider it a slow paced game at all.
I like games that are challenging, but I don't like games that punish you incessantly for dying. princeofshapeirIt doesn't.
The Good: Combat is rewarding, great level and enemy design. The Bad: How does a game that drops to sub 10fps for entire areas get released? And to expand on that note. How did it get 9.5 here? Japanese games seem to get a free pass for technical deficiencies.MFDOOM1983
Pretty much. I think Japanese games as a whole get a free pass in terms of everything outside gameplay, ugly/bland games like vanquish get praised for visuals :| :|
[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"]I like games that are challenging, but I don't like games that punish you incessantly for dying. Bread_or_DecideIt doesn't. I've heard that the game takes away your Souls you've collected when you die, and your Souls are what you need to upgrade skills. You can apparently get them back by going to the place you died at, but dying before you reach there will result in those Souls being lost permanently. That isn't difficulty; that's just cruel.

You keep your stats and progress however, losing your souls when its so easy to gain them is a slap in the wrist.

The games teaches you a little discipline. You stop and think, "Maybe I should go back and spend my souls instead of going further and dying." It's not cruel if you're smart about it. Again, this is pretty much the anti-game for the COD generation. Slow down folks...stop and smell the rotting demon corpses for a change. yes there will be moments where you lose souls and it sucks. Giving up is your own fault though because the game rewards trial and error.

Yeah...many of the bosses you could kill with range attacks, quite easily and leveling up is just a matter of grinding and knowing when to leave to raise your stats. Eventually you'll be incredibly over powered and every enemy in the game will be at your mercy.[QUOTE="i5750at4Ghz"]Nothing just internet hype.MushroomWig9.5/10 - More than just internet hype.
Indeed, this is one of the best games of all time, no need to defend it or apologize for beeing so amazing and not another boredom for casual gamers

Its just this game's normal is like the hardest setting of a lot of other games (not literally, just making a vague comparison). therefore its just forced on sort of aka its for people that like challenges

I'll tell you it's frustrating as hell... and it's incredibly satisfying!
It's a great game, i was afraid to pick it up initially (Demon souls) but after i got it i was HOOKED! incredible environments suck you in and a great risk/reward ratio makes the game very compelling.
Unless you are a casual gamer or you have low temper you should try it out!!!
I remember when Demons souls came out, I was very hesitant...I was like whats the fuss about??? An RPG with very little story = no thanks...then I eventually bit the bullet and bought it and never looked back. I still have my game copy and I also have a collectors edition sealed since its worth over $200 now...Its really one of those games that you need to sit down and play for 5-10 hours to get a feel for it and you'll be HOOKED.
It's definitely one of the very best PS3 games I own, by far. The replay value is top notch. The fighting is spot-on and you know exactly why you died (because you ****ed up somehow). It's really a gamers game, no other way to put it.
One of the most rewarding games I have EVER owned, Demon's Souls comes in at #1, this one is still close behind in #2 even though it's a better game (mainly because I haven't yet beat Dark Souls yet).
Top that off with a New Game + and you have replay value out the ass and a great game to keep you addicted to it.
My girlfriend even likes watching me play it, regardless of how many times I get stomped into the ground...that's saying something about the game right there. She was saying she can't stop watching it!

That's about the weakest example video I've ever seen. Not indicative of the character I have at all. Roll a theif and you can run circles around that guy...it's all in the way you want to play. Play fast, play slow, you have options there for you.

Thief + Backstab + Riposte = lulz.
Absolutely nothing special about it. Let me tell you something, i'm a gaming veteran of 30 years, and on any game i buy i don't give up easily at all, i got Demon Souls and played it for over 6 hours, and i was at the same exact spot i was when i first turned the game on. Now a lot of people here might say, oh well i might not be any good at the game, but i have beaten hundreds of games in my life time, like all the Baldurs Gate games, all the Dungeon Siege games, all the Halo games, all the Call of Duties, all the Resident Evils, all the Fable and Gears Games except for Gears 3, all the Fallout games,,, and many more and i beat them all on there hardest settings. However when you die in Demon Souls you go all the way back to the beginning, and you lose all the souls you've collected, maybe others have more patience, but i think 6 hours straight is a good amount of patience, a game like that is just not fun. People like to make some kind of progress when investing even an hours worth of playing in a game, this Demon Souls game allows you nothing, it's beyond frustrating, but if certain gamers have the patience and nothing to do with an entire saturday, than i guess it might be possible to make some headway. Not me, never again, i'm more of a Baldurs Gate, Diablo, Champions of Norrath, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and Dungeon Siege kind a' guy.I see all this hype yet when I talk to a friend they tell me that its just frustrating. Should I play it?
