most of the 360 games are on/coming to the PC (GeOW, Halo 3 etc.)... i have a good gaming PC, so... why buy a 360 instead of a PS3 or Wii?

Khansoul

So I can sit on my couch and play games on a 42 inch HDTV and also play online in a much more organized way than PC's. I am always shocked at the lack of intelligence shown by Hermits on system wars?

Was that last sentence a question? :? Anyway, nothing's stopping you from plugging your PC (assuming you have a good gaming PC) into your TV and plugging your 360 controller into the PC. Try it, I guarantee you won't have a problem. ;)

Yeah that sounds fun  I could play RTS's on my couch ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz I get to play Crackdown and Gears of War right now and not wait 2 years! My PC is on par with yours but their is just nothing I want to play on it. I was a Warcraft player got bored of that and now I am strictly XBOX 360 and could not be happier.

your PC is better than mine actually! :D

AMD Athlon 64 3500+

Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT Overclocked

1.5 Gigs of Ram

With that PC you could be playing Supreme Commander instead of Crackdown wich is at least 10 times better. You'll be bored of playing Crackdown when I'll still be learning some aspects of the game.

Really? Why would you need a PC on par with mine if you don't use it to game? :? Anyways, to say that the PC is only good for RTS's is pathetic. Crackdown? Don't make me laugh, the only reason people got that was for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta. Gears of War? Coming to PC soon.

You know waht? You've right. Why get a PC when I can sit back and play games like Crysis and BF:2 on 360...
Oh, wait...

Well it looks as if we will never change eachothers minds.

I respect your opinion on what games you think are fun, but I won't tolerate you bashing my system of choice. I bet you feel the same about the 360. Again, its a matter of preference, I only come to system wars to defend the PC, but I get out of hand sometimes.

Whats the point in buying a new computer now? Next year a better one will be available. Whats the point in buying anything now when you could just wait? Oh I see - we could just keep waiting till the cows come home but I'd rather play now than to wait wait wait and hope the game comes to PC.

Begs the question, why buy anything now? I'll put it this way; I've just bought my Intel P90 comupter for $5.00 and all the folks who bought it 12 years ago got ripped off, they shoulda waited cause I can enjoy all those things I wanted to play 12 years ago. ( just kidding on the P90 thing, I actually paid $3500.00 for it in 1994 lol .

My last system was bought in 2003. 2007-2003 = 4. What about this Zephyr that Microsoft is pulling out now? Hermits aren't going to be the only ones playing the upgrade game soon. ;)

You say your last system was bout in 2003, yet the specs in your sig say you have the very latest Gforce card, the 8800 GTX, which released, what... 2, 4 months ago? Or do you mean to say that's the last one you bought before one you bought now in 2007? Just would like to be very clear on this with how many seperate upgrades you got for each seperate system.

Sure. I bought this system from scratch this year. I replaced the system I bought in 2003. It had a 3 GHz P4 processor and a Radeon 9800. Could run pretty much everything until the end of last year, which was why I jsut bought a new one. ;)

Because the above highlighted statement isn't true and when games do go from 360 to PC it often takes many years.

Or emulation... Yeah I bet you know what that is to.

Yea that's completely legal right?

So you were just on 1 graphics card for 4 years? Were you always on max setting that whole time or dropping them after 16 months, then another 8, and so on. Now I'm not a nut who cries that you'll upgrade every 12-14 months. But in a 5 year span (what most would consider the avg life for a console), I did take it that most would upgrade their card at least once and possibly twice in those 5 years. Or suffer from performance drops keeping the same card for 4-5 years. But I guess that would also depend on which card you start with. Can you shed some light from your own example?

I had a 9800 for 4 years, yes. It was the best card out at the moment from either company, Nvidia and ATI. I could run through all games with ease. It ran Doom 3 and Half-life 2 (which I applaud Valve for optimizing so well) amazingly. As 2005 came and FEAR and other titles were released, I found that I had to drop AA and reduce the AF to keep my games playable. However, I was happy with the graphics because I find gameplay to be way more important (unlike some hermits). As the year progressed, I overclocked my P4 to squeeze every ounce of power out of it and got it to 3.3 GHz, a respectable speed for 2005. I could handle every game I threw at it, although I now had to use medium settings. In 2006, once Oblivion and other heavy hitters came out, I reduced resolution and went to low. Again, the games were fun, so no biggy. Once Company of Heroes came out, I found myself missing the good graphics and was experiencing major FPS lag. Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell: Double Agent required SM 3 cards, so I couldn't even play them. That's when I decided to build a new computer from scratch, reusing my speakers and monitor, and only spending $2000 on the rig I have in my sig now. Contrary to popular belief, I find that getting the highest-end vid card when you are building your system gives your system the best longetivity. If I had gotten an FX 5700 or whatever constituted mid-range for then, I would have been unable to play games that came out in late 2005 and on. I am not a graphics whore and can stand playing on reduced settings. What I can't stand is NOT playing my games. And when that happens, I know its time to upgrade.

I'm a gamer, but everyone in here is being ridiculous...you all act like a bunch of effing 13 year olds. Console gaming is a much bigger business then PC gaming will ever have...why do you think MS is trying to hype and market "Games for windows". Cause as of late, PC gaming hasn't been that great aside from a few games (WoW is one example). PC gaming is fun, its more versitle...but its nowhere near as cost efficient. Any port sucks, and this generation proves it the most. Every game I've seen ported to the 360 from the PC ends up sucked, but any port I've seen from 360 (ex: vegas) runs and more then not looks better on the 360. Thats why they are ports, not from the ground up. Consoles usually have a more wide variety of games, but PC games do tend to be deeper in content, and modding communities back this up ten fold. That being said 360 and XNA is making great strides towards this. you all need to just stfu and stop being so biased, enjoy the damn things for what they are...gaming machines. The graphics are great on either....get over it.

So even with the latest top of the line card, the max performance you'll get out of it is about 2 years. It's always debated how often you upgrade your PC, but it never seems to be factored, what game settings you play on. Yes, it's an option to upgrade, but thing is, Hermits are always touting the graphical edge PCs have over consoles. Which may be true so long as you're willing to pay every so often to maintain that graphical edge, or just be willing to take the drop in settings.

And that becomes the balancing factor - how much to spend over 4-5 years vs how good you want the games to look. And maybe having only 2nd best, even 3rd best, settings ain't so bad (considering there are about 4 to 5 grades of visual settings factoring res, texture, AA, and what have you). I think very few people can afford the top of the line card when it 1st comes out. So really, how many people are playing PC games with the very best settings throughout the systems lifepsan?

But here's something that often gets overlooked when it comes to console graphics. Over the lifespan of a console, they do improve, WITHOUT UPGRADES. It's just a matter of the devs gaining more and more familiar with the unique hardware. I am wowed by Gears of War visuals, every screen and video I saw of Mass Effect, and just barely scratching past a year for X360, it's still early in the game. Things'll continue to get better every 12-16 months, no upgrades needed. Improvements on a console doesn't end after just 1 or 2 years. This has been true for every console going back to SNES. I mean God of War on PS2 showed a whole new level of graphics for that platform, and that came out SIX YEARS after PS2s launch.

*Shrugs* that's the reason the 360 and other consoles exist for me. It's for people who can't afford expensive graphics cards and want a happy medium in graphics and immersion. I never see consoles as an enemy, but rather a supplement to PC gaming.

*Shrugs* that's the reason the 360 and other consoles exist for me. It's for people who can't afford expensive graphics cards and want a happy medium in graphics and immersion. I never see consoles as an enemy, but rather a supplement to PC gaming.

That's the way I see it too. And have to reiterate somerthing I added inmy previous post, cause you already reply-quoted me :)

I mean God of War on PS2 showed a whole new level of graphics for that platform, and that came out SIX YEARS after PS2s launch.

most of the 360 games are on/coming to the PC (GeOW, Halo 3 etc.)... i have a good gaming PC, so... why buy a 360 instead of a PS3 or Wii?

It's not one way though. It took lemmings 3 years to get Half-life 2.

[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"][QUOTE="dgsag"][QUOTE="AdobeArtist"][QUOTE="dgsag"]

Another thumbs up to consoles. ;) Again, consoles are amazing. BUt if you want the absolute best, you need to shell out for a PC. That is, and always will be a fact.

Vegas looked better on the PC..........GS said so themselves. XNA can not be used to make mods.... and the PC gaming market is massive worldwide, if you look at Europe, Consoles havent even become anywhere near as popular as PC games.

Yeah if you have an insainly powerful computer, You still need a stupid machine to run it any sort of smooth... and any one person can use XNA to develop what they like using any of the middleware programs, or hell your own. It's not limited to making a game...it has more function ability then that. I guarantee you we will see more of it in the future. Yes your right, PC gaming is huge in Europe....but consoles rule the N.American and to some extent asian market (PC gaming is popular too). Fact is those, on a software basis...consoles crush PC...there is simply more people that buy games for consoles vs PC. That being said, thats obvious though, because a PC isn't just for gaming.

XNA is only for C++, Mods are not made through C++, they are made through speciallized tools provided by the game developers. and PC gaming is still much bigger in Asia overall, something like 3 million WOW players come from China.

most of the 360 games are on/coming to the PC (GeOW, Halo 3 etc.)... i have a good gaming PC, so... why buy a 360 instead of a PS3 or Wii?

Stumpt25

Well, actually not that many games get ported to PC, and when they do it takes them a couple years anyways. Also some people dont like to play games on a PC, and I have bolth a good PC and a 360 and I use bolth for different kinds of games. Like PC has MMO's for example.

I wish they could Ban him because he never adds to the discussion...just flames 24/7.....

most of the 360 games are on/coming to the PC (GeOW, Halo 3 etc.)... i have a good gaming PC, so... why buy a 360 instead of a PS3 or Wii?

Stumpt25
does rpgs and other games you cant get how can yo uget it on pc? well can you tell me exact date on when geow and halo will come out? exactly...if you have a 360 you get to play them now instead of in 2008-9.. you wont have to worry about installing and blah blah... + your 360 with a pc becomes an extencion to your media center.. good enough reason?

PC and 360 are like cousins. They share games, cross platform multiplayer etc. BUt the thing is you get some exclusives that you can't get on PC like assasin's creed or DOA4.

I have both and my gaming pc is pretty up to date. No game it cant run. I prefer my racing, fighting and fps on the 360. Sims, rpg's and online games like everquest I prefer on the computer.

Guor_ok_Gondul

Because the above highlighted statement isn't true and when games do go from 360 to PC it often takes many years.

Or emulation... Yeah I bet you know what that is to.

It will probably take like 15 years before we fully can emulate this generations consoles.

In your case if you are only going to get one console id get a PS3 but if your like me and like all platforms I dont want to wait 2 years later to play GeoW on my pc.
