I read many disappointed comments of people after playing this game. I mean, it got 10 here, on Ign and has a a great average on Metacritic. so what didn't gamers like about MGS4? :?

Yes because high average ratings from a bunch of people with opinions that may or may not differ to our own constitutes the game void of any and all criticism and thereby we should run our lives around it in accordance with the great law of MetaCritic.

Lot much people say it got too much cut screens less gameplay, also what i hate the fact that thay can't keep action in one place as they always did.
Oh and it's AAAAE here so lemmings obliviously try to steal it from cows, now with MGS:R hate it :P
have you ever heard of punctation? I was merely pointing at that even though it is highly revered, the game isn't protected from criticism, with or without evidence (although the latter is just silly).

Maybe a lot of folks don't want 9 or 10 hours of cut scenes in their games (btw, 9 or 10 hours is just a guess, feel free to correct me with a more accurate figure if you like).
I mean, some people might not mind a movie in their games...or two...or three, but I know that I mind. As I have said many times before, if I want to watch a movie, then I'll do just that...by watching a movie. I feel no need or desire to throw movies into my games.

People criticize it for having long cutscenes. They lie by saying its an interactive movie. I thought it was great. The cutscenes were kinda long but I dont care. I enjoyed the game the whole way through. I think it only deserves a 9.5 max. Uncharted 2 deserved a 10.
I never played it myself but I would think many would have a problem that for MGS4 there is more then 2x the movies then there is actual gameplay.
"what's wrong with MGS4?"
It's a PS3 exclusive and fanboys hate that they would need to give in and buy a PS3 to play it.
For my personal scoring system I don't give any game a 10 but if GTA4 is a 10 here then this game is definitely above that.... 11 :P

Translation: I'm still upset over the fact that MGS4 got a 10 here on Gamespot.
[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"]Because its AAAAe it gets alot of hate here, which is a shame as many people loved watching it.reivOooh cheap shot man. heh sometimes i can't help being a dick :P Now elite, theres a game most of the young 'uns on this board haven't even heard of, let alone played. Then again you could say the same about the negative comments couldn't you? So what did that little out burst achieve nothing.
Anyhow people have different views on what makes a game great some people like some dont whats hard to understand? Some people hate Mario....
The complaints usually arise from the lengthy cutscenes. If you played this game on a 15" tv with no surround sound then yes you would be bored ..... but if you played on a big HD screen with surround you would of loved every second of those cutscenes..... yeah its like a movie and ti f****n rocks!I read many disappointed comments of people after playing this game. I mean, it got 10 here, on Ign and has a a great average on Metacritic. so what didn't gamers like about MGS4? :?

You read comments that people only hated MGS4? Was that the lemming section? :P
Look. Ever since the first one, I've always none that Metal Gear is a hit or miss franchise. Either you dont like avoiding enemies or you LOVE avoid enemies.
Either you enjoy cut-scenes or you despise cut-scenes. I don't know anyone that thinks the game is 'decent' or 'meh' or 'good' either its "OMG 9 hour scenecuts teh suckz" or "no gaempley, sheet gaem!" or you get "10/10" "best game ever!" comments.
Anyways.
Absolutely nothing wrong with MGS4. Some people (Mostly young people) Just can't stand cut-scenes at all and some how think that because of all the scenes, there's no gameplay. which is utter BS cos in one of my runthroughs it took me 39h 55 min to complete, and anyone who's touched MGS4 will know, you can't go back and watch scenes again, what does that mean? Means I spent more than 30 hours gameplay.
Unless you're an ADD kid who plays nothing but COD, CS and HALO's, you'd realize MGS4 is a masterpiece and is no doubt worth its perfect 10's.
You should count the comments in this thread, I bet its 50/50 love/hate more or less.
Also, I agree with TheSixthAxis's review on MGS4, don't let random people on forums judge it for you, let professional reviewers.
Why you ask?
"Reviews like this are reserved forordinarygames. To review such a game as Metal Gear Solid 4 is like commissioning a blind man to share his opinion on a beautiful oil painting painted by a true artist, it just wouldn't work. The nature of Metal Gear Solid 4 lifts it above such conventional ways of judgement. But alas, the nature of the industry makes it necessary for even such a game to be subjected to such an insulting judicial process. For you see, this game is available for purchase to all, even the lowest forms of humanity who should deservedly combust and be reduced to ashes in the divine presence of it."
Overrated. It's more of a movie rather than Game because of the long cut scenes. And the mandatory installs are terrible :xBloodSeeker1337I thought the installs were pretty nice, gave you a nice break in between Acts.

Not Really, I was really pissed when this happened I had to wait to resume playing. I found this worse than having to switch discs like I do with the consoles of old and games on the 360 like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. In fact, it does give me a sense of nostalgia. Not switching discs in a Final Fantasy game doesn't seem right. I might get FF13 for the 360 if the PS3 version doesn't have any extras. Anyway, the MGS4 is just the exception rather than the rule. But still, all my other PS3 games did require an initial install. I just hope the case with MGS4 doesn't occur in future games. Having a mandatory install pisses me off. I just want to pop in the disc and play. Yeah, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to this, but I don't want to spend my me-time having to wait. It's annoying that after buying the game with my hard earned money, I come home, pop it in, and there's this friggin' installation required. What is this? A PC game? Ugh. I know this borders absurdity, I don't want to be hassled anymore by installations I really hate forced installs, and I hate choosing the games to play based on how many games I can fit into a forced-installation-based hard drive. That's why PS3 games load slowly. I'll go on record to say I'd hate nblu-ray drive because I'd want my life back after wading through 20 games with forced installs. I don't play on consoles to install my game. I don't play on consoles to manage the space on my hard drive for what games could fit into it. That's what PC's are for. Actually, Steam does all my installing for me.
! thanks Ultimasspooges for posting that, i've never read that review before. its just ............. so .............. im going to play MGS4 again right now............You should count the comments in this thread, I bet its 50/50 love/hate more or less.

Because I hate where Kojima took the story and some of the **** he pulled. AAllxxjjnnI think he tied it all together brilliantly. I can't think of any loose ends.
Where to start, where to start. A) An encyclopedia of MGS without the classic MGS4 gameplay, or scenarios B) Graphics were all over the place, from great, amazing, better than Crysis, to mediocre. C) The game had 5 endings, and none of them were satisfying. D) Raiden vs Outer Haven, need i say more E)The story was by far the worst executed F) Sunny was pointless and annoying G)The gameplay didn't have good pacing, and was not what Hideo Kojima originally envisioned H)Ryan Payton I)Took away many things that made MGS3 great J) Boss Battles over-all are the worst of the series. With all that said, its one of the best games this gen in general. But its by far the worst MGS game, this should show you how great the MGS series is. The worst MGS got a ten. Adrian_Cloud
You're looking at it from the wrong angle.
The pacing was not wrong, it was perfect. SOME cut-scenes are out of place (Which I admit I skip every time I play again) but the majority are well paced as the other series'
The gameplay, had great pacing.
The story was the worsed executed? Also, am I the only one that knows that nanomachines have been a topic in the MGS world since MGS2? So stop with the damage control that Hideo Kojima just "ALL OF A SUDDEN PUT NANOMACHINES TO MAKE ENDS MEET" It's been apart of the story since the begining.
The Boss battles were equally as awesome as the ones in MGS2 and MGS3. I will admit, MGS1 by far had the best boss battles.
But the Snake vs Ocelot final boss in MGS4 is one of the most epic fights in gaming history. so serious, yet so humorous.
Anyways, the storyline wasn'tconvoluted at all, the game was a fanservice and you enjoyed the previous installments you'd enjoy this one more.
The ending, not satisfying? Every Kojima game I played, I was always left... WHAT??? What happens next? Where's he going? Why did he do that? What happened to Metal Gear? How's Snake? What are nanomachines? How come he didn't die? What the hell... TELL ME MORE!
After completing MGS4 seeing snake battle ocelot to death, johnny and meryl get married, raiden reunite with his famly and Snake meeting Big Boss ofr the first time almost two decades and killing Zero then seeing Big Boss die my only reaction was *wipes tear off eye*

its 2 minutes men, just like kojima said on the instaling screens: Take a break. go take a piss -.-

Yeah i dont get it, people are never happy with anything, The guy managed to wrap up a a history with so many '?' marks, and so many details, and he pulled it off.
I mean look at MGS time line, kojima made that mostly alone, thats brilliant
The gameplay of MGS4 was awesome. I greatly enjoyed playing MGS4 in a way that I never had with previous Metal Gear games.
The story on the other hand...oh boy was it crappy. It could've been so much better but it was incredibly poorly executed and basically crapped all over the series canon.
The story was the worsed executed? Also, am I the only one that knows that nanomachines have been a topic in the MGS world since MGS2? So stop with the damage control that Hideo Kojima just "ALL OF A SUDDEN PUT NANOMACHINES TO MAKE ENDS MEET" It's been apart of the story since the begining.UltimaspoogesSlow down there buddy. In the first MGS, nanomachines played a very small role, for the most part explaining little things (like your radar and people you can see on it) and explained game functions that would otherwise be breaking the fourth wall (i.e. why doors open when you walk near them). For MOST of MGS2, nanomachines played a small role and the other plot device, the Patriots, was largely unseen. At the end it kind of went downhill, but the majority of the game saw none of this. MGS3 had nanomachines nowhere and while there was a lot of mention of The Philosophers, their role in the game was less than that of the Patriots. The problem with MGS4 is that these two plot devices, nanomachines and the Patriots, are overused. Far more in use than previous games. Anything and everything is explained with these. And thats the issue with MGS4. Its not the fact that these plot devices are used. Its how much they're used. There is a big difference.
