Wow, just wow. I can't believe there are so many mentions of Peter molyneux. He is by far the best and most powerful Game Developer. If you play some of his older games like Dungeon keeper and Black & white, ( or even the movies, which is his underrated great Tycoon game) you will understand how good is he in creating innovative and engaging games. judge him by the games he creates, no the things he says and you can't help but to adore him.herzalot
most people here don't play PC games or/and are too young to remember Molyneux's prime
Even if you don't like the Fable games two AA scores are nothing to sneeze at (and in Fable 2's case an 89 on metacritic)

thats your opinion but fact is SMG2 is the latest amazing thing that nobody could match yet so yea
Kojima, Miyamoto, Sakaguchi, Uematsu
All proven, excellent developers that are placed on a pedestal a little too high.

So you think everyone with an English accent is a 'stuck up rich snob'? I think that Peter Molyneux has partially redeemed himself by bringing back Fable 3 to the PC...unless of course he didn't make that decision.that peter guy who sounds like a stuck up rich snob

Not really, Kojima and the Metal Gear series seems to be more appreciated and more of a success in the gaming community.
how is that related to what I said? Kojima's games are sucessfull be he never created anything new. The stealth genre already existed before kojima
Molyneux created the god games. and He still creates great games
No, Kojima's Metal Gear on MSX was definitely ground-breaking and could be considered "new".Warren Spector by far. Don't get me wrong, he's amazing dude, but the guy desiged one game..Deus Ex and then had a hand in Deus Ex: IW...nothing else. He gets credited for stuff Thief, SystemShock, Ultima Crusader or Wind Commander where he barely did anything during development of those games. He wasn't lead designer in any of them, or even designer of any kind in most of those

Kojima's primary contribution is the MGS series. By score alone, MGS or Mario isnt the best of the best. i'd say the award goes to the GTA series. 3 full games on ps2, 1 on ps3 with 2 expansions, all of which got 9.0 above. If we ignore the expansions, all of them got 9.6 and above. Which other developer managed to consistently obtain 9.6 and above for 4 full games of one franchise consecutively? None. Not even Kojima nor Blizzard nor Valve did it. And the irony is that I didn't even have to include Red Dead Redemption to the list.
So, by game reception alone, ie. scores, Rockstar is the best developer. Unfortunately, Rockstar doesn't quite have a vocal 'figurehead' of a similar reputation like Miyamoto or Kojima. Because if they did, his voice would mean more than Kojima's or Miyamoto's.

Rockstar has made plenty of weak games in the past though, their portofilo is very uneven, far more than Valve's or Blizzards's one.And Rockstar can't have a guy like Kojima or Miyamoto, those are guys who really create and design their games, there's no one person in Rockstar who had this much control over all GTA games.

Unfortunatedly,Yu Suzuki has lost the power to decide anything a long time ago, apparently the man isn´t relevant for sega anymore.
A shame,I´ve been waiting for that game for a long time, and I´m sure Ryo and Shenhua aren´t pleased by the fact of being stuck in a cave for the last decade:P

That's primarily due to the fact that Rockstar has about 10 divisions. It's fairer to give credit to Rockstar North.

One can only hope...then why even mention Red Dead? :) Also..if we don't count the other divisions the only non AAA Blizzard game on Gamespot (Diablo 2) falls out of equation too :) This means that on GS every Blizzard game scored AAA...15 years of perfect track record, even Rockstar North can't claim that :)That's primarily due to the fact that Rockstar has about 10 divisions. It's fairer to give credit to Rockstar North.

I wish they would release a series of novels or just something that ends the story. Shenmue 2 had such an amazing ending that had me on the edge of my seat. The final disk taking place in Guilin was so good. A nice change of pace.

Sure the guy oversells his games, but at least his games are unique, more then I can say for Cliffy B.
Thread fails because none of these guys are figureheads. A figurehead is just there and has no say over what goes on. That is none of them.
And none of them are overrated. Just because you don't like something someone developed doesn't mean anything. Get over yourself.
This. All of those devs rock.Really feel bad for people voting for Kojima he's easily top 3 game dev's ever. His talent is insane, his games push every aspect of game making, Graphics, Sound, Music, Story, Production Values, Gameplay, Personality, Innovation, Refinement, Originality. Specially with people like Cliffy B, how can someone say Kojima is more overrated then Cliffy B? That's just absurd, I guess the TC is the real one to blame.TehNubTuber
Sure, Kojima's great. If you like an incredibly poorly written story.

Miyamoto
Outside of the 3 Mario games this gen hes done nothing for the wii
Ballroompirate
Wii sports and Wii sports 2? and before you sign them off, each scored 7.8 and 8.0 respectively.
And you cant just say outside of the 3 mario games. Because within them you have a 10 a 9.5 and an 8.5. Its like saying what has bioware done outside of their 3 games this gen (Mass effect 9.0, ME2, 9.0, Dragon Age 9.5).
Molyneux has both contributed to gaming in a very significant way and has created exceptionally good games...so..what the hell are you talking about?Everyone one those has contributed to gaming in a very significant way (Mityamoto, Carmack), or at least created an exceptionally good game(s) (Kojima, Bleszinsky).
So none of them is overrated.
My pick would be Peter Molyneux.
