Why do Gamers whine so much about progressive themes on games?

I play video games to escape from real life. Not to have political agendas forced on me.

Because just like watching sports on TV, I don't want politics, especially leftist pushing PC BS mixed in, that ruins the enjoyment of the Entertainment.

Like if you look at something like Battlestar Galactica that's progressive. It has a ton of strong female characters, themes relating to race, sexuality etc..

^ I'm going with this as well. I usually don't care what I play as. Heck, I usually play non-human characters if I have the choice, just because it is something fresh. But I game shouldn't be rated for it and a game shouldn't be altered to be as open and progressive as possible. If I play a game in medieval Europe - for example - I don't want half of the knights to be black lesbians

Because "Progressive" no longer means what it did 5-10 years ago, and equality mainly means "Appease any minority regardless of rational reasoning" ... this is leaking into everything.

Anything Disney makes now they go out of their way to have 1 of EVERYTHING in their non-animated movies, except a lead white male of course, because disgusting power fantasies!

"Progression" - True equality is not on the cards because our western societies have go so far left that the rational balance has gone. This is why people like Trump and Brexit succeed, because the quieter people in the background thinking "wtf is going on?" are voting "enough is enough".

Why should developers, movie makers... any creative medium have to bend to "Political Correctness"? You want more non-white straight individuals in your media, then instead of censoring that media or crying about it, GET MAKING YOUR OWN.

Depends what kind of gamers. Left-leaning gamers (e.g. NeoGAF, ResetEra) would welcome the progressive themes. Whereas right-leaning gamers (e.g. 4chan, Reddit) would complain about them. It's not all that different to the reactions to "progressive Hollywood".

Generally, both video games and Hollywood have become more left-leaning and progressive over the years. This is largely due to the people working in the game and movie industries being mostly university-educated. And since most universities are left-leaning, this would be reflected in the games and movies they go on to make.

There are millions of male gamers that play has females (yea, maybe more for fantasy reasons) in any game over the years that have given you a choice.

I should go to China and demand that their next "Super Hero" equivalent has a skin colour and gender change! lets see how well that goes down.

But it seems like with the gaming hobby especially, that we focus on the disgusting minority of fans that are sexist or homophobic and project that on the fanbase as a whole. In 1986, how many people went to boycott Nintendo when they found out Samus was female? What about the successful Tomb Raider series that is now over 20 years old? Sure we can find idiots on the internet that have a problem with Mirrors Edge or Horizon because they have female leads. We can also find videos of people hitting themselves in the genitals or eating laundry detergent. We've come a long way and it's never been a better time to be a gamer. Sometimes we need to celebrate the successes instead of looking for faults.

In the United States, white males (non-Hispanic) account for about 31% of the population. Why should developers only cater to that 31% and ignore the other 69% of the population? The fact that Black Panther is currently the highest-grossing superhero movie ever in the US speaks volumes.

In China, foreign movies with non-Chinese-male leads tend to do very well at the box office there.

Because I just want to enjoy a game without having the developers try to shove their SJW political agenda down my throat. If it makes sense for the game to have a LGBT or strong female or whatever character, that's fine. The problem is when it feels like that is being shoehorned in just to push the SJW political agenda or when they get preachy about it. Keep the political agendas out of games and just focus on designing a fun game.

The same goes for other forms of entertainment as well. There are way too many people trying to shove SJW political agendas and political correctness down people throats across all forms of entertainment in recent years and people are getting sick of that which is one of the reasons why Trump won. And this is coming from somebody that had previously voted Democrat in every election prior to the last and used to consider myself to be more progressive than conservative, but I, like many people, have become sick of what the progressive movement has turned into in recent years.

Fair enough, I'm a Centralist ... I use to recognise as a left-wing individual and was raised that way. But over the last few years, more twisting of the news (I'm talking all news sources, including left news sources) with the trump/brexit situation that both sides are just at a point now where they are either far left or far right.. these people dominate the media... meanwhile most of the common-sense middle is being lost in the turd throwing.

I'm still closer to left than right, but I can see completely why we are all so divided, the left's virtue signaling and shaming has gotten out of hand. And the Hardcore right are just downright weird.

What satisfies the criteria of Equality in any industry? 50/50 females? 25 white male, 25 black male, 25 white female , 25 black female? 12.5 white male, 12.5 asian male etc. etc.

You can't shame countries that are a majority colour for having more media aimed at them, developed and created by them. The true fix is to encourage and get other people to create thier own unique media (and healthy merging media, Disney does it well). But we have gone unbalanced again now to the point where we are:

1) complaining about the lack of diversity in a WW2 Normandy beach film.

2) Removing classic comedy scenes (Faulty Towers) for impersonating a Nazi Walk.

3) getting agressive with white people for having dreadlocks.

4) Covering up minority crimes, but putting enphasis on majority crimes against minorities.

5) complicating genders to the point where none of it makes sense anymore.

Why did Black Panther's reviews ALL put enphasis on damn politics? When he was introduced in the other films I thought "Cool, hes badass, awesome accent!" and moved on... meanwhile media turns a great character/film into something else....

Jessica Jones season 2 got heavily political and it was crap.,.. it completely lost its purpose. You had a badass female protagonist, who was treated like any other hero. Then you turn it into a b-grade drama about that mayaswell have been another show altogether.

^ But hey, it was "Empowering" because "All females directed it" .... whoa amazing, why does that matter again? I don't give a thumbs up to a show directed by men, why would I for woman? They failed to make a quality series, their gender is irrelevant.

@bussinrounds @SecretPolice Speak for yourselfs, Dues Ex and Human Revolution are among the best games ever and heavily involved political themes. The former being my personal GOAT.

And for NFL ratings...if a bunch of players simply kneeling before the game even starts makes you not watch....that's called getting triggered.

The BBC is a good source for many things, but it is also (Despite claiming otherwise) very left leaning and often leaves bits out to suit its agenda, there is no unbias news source... they are not perfect. But they are the one every goes to, especially the left....

I only have to look at this conversation trail to see that you have:

- Keep the main character, white, male and with no political themes (although political themes is part of real life...)
