[QUOTE="Ly_the_Fairy"][QUOTE="def_mode"]Tell that to Steam. Never asks for money but 10times better than XBL. If people stop paying (which i highly doubt will happen) MS will make multiplayer free. How can you not see this.Murderstyle75
Steam an Xbox Live operate very differently, as does online gaming on PC, and on consoles.
Steam is simply a store with a few community features tacked on like chat, screenshot sharing, etc. Xbox Live is a media hub that hosts a variety of everything.
On PC, servers are paid for through donations. While you can access most servers for free, the fact of the matter is that every server you play on is being hosted out-of-pocket by your fellow gamers. For me alone, I spend $9 a month hosting a Minecraft server that only supports a handful of people comfortably at any given time. That's $108 a year for one game.
On consoles online doesn't function that way. Microsoft hosts online for every single game on the Xbox. There are no community-run servers that are maintained by donations.
Microsoft wouldn't make Xbox Live free because it costs them hundreds of millions of dollars to run the service as is.Â
You are wrong and on Xbox Live, the games are run off of peer connections. That's why people are dumb enough to defend it. They think they are actually playing on Microsofts servers when they are not. The only exceptions are things like EA servers which Microsoft doesn't pay for either. So you think Xbox Live requires no servers to function?
Yep, and snap-on tools sell tremendously well. Didn't respond to the Honda Accord, I see. Keep backpeddling, elitist. You still keep deflecting. Wouldn't party chat, a service offered on XBL and not on PSN, be of value to some? A simple yes/no will suffice.[QUOTE="clone01"][QUOTE="Murderstyle75"] And I'm not deflecting anything. PARTY CHAT IS FREE ON PS VITAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.......
And let me kill your argument even more PSN has Home which regarless of you caring or no for it,is 100 times better than lame ass party chat, party chat just serve to talk, home is a gaming app free, where you can communicate with friends to,how can this be on a free service, with less ads than a charge to play service.?
Then there is Netflix which is better on PSN and free of any pay scheme, how about hulu.? Internet explorer really.? The PS3 has had a browser since launch.
I know your answer already since i have already debate this with you,oh but party chat is not on PSN,Party chat or (voice cheat) is not on PSN because of the PS3 memory configuration as simple as that, even the Vita has it and is less powerful than the PS3,but it has more ram to work with than the PS3 so it gets party chat.
There is not a single justification for xbox live, and it has no value what so ever, you pay and you get nothing out of it,but access to things that every one else already get for free else where that is simple stupid and sad,you pay because you are force to,if you don't pay you don't play as simple as that, you miss a complete part of your games, which on PS3 doesn't happen.
So which is superior in the end.?

free games? roftl you might want to rethink that one lolAs long as sony is still free to play online with PS4 and improves the experience. I can see no one renewing there live subscriptions for Next Xbox.
Â
Xbox 360 live is a big joke, you get nothing and pay to play Halo online, what a joke. At least PS3 has a little service called PS+ and you get all kinds of free great games and discounts.
Â
Xbox Live you get Nada, but party chat and Shooters online (Which you get on PS3 also for free).

So for the better value at around the same price.....

The point is, have you known someone to have willingly purchased something, whetiher its once or twice, and will admit it was a bad idea and/or not a good use for the money? More often than not, No. You wont. No one wants to admit they are wrong. So there you have it. Guess that sums up System Wars too. PC is owning a car, Console is leasing a car.
You keep saying this yet have zero proof. Only little fanboy prayerstheres no reason for sony not to charge. they aren't just going to leave all that free money on the table. Apparently you don't know what a loss lead is. If anything, the XBL fee is obstructing a fortunes worth of many other sales from people who have no desire to take the console online to people not buying in the first place to even silver members not buying certain games, content and services just because there is an additional fee tied to it. With the thousands of dollars I spend on games, media and virtual goods, the Gold fee is peanuts compared to it. But the cost of the Gold fee is enough to make me take my money elsewhere next gen since I'm tired of paying for shit that holds no value. Microsoft had an ample opportunity to seriously exploit Sonys weakness in 2006 and dominate with the vast majority of the marketshare. They failed to do that however because they were too hung up on subscriptions. While they did gain a lot of marketshare compared to the original Xbox, they failed at a perfect opportunity to turn Sony into Sega. Rule one of being a business. Never let the customer feel they're being treated like sheep. The present approach is the same Sony used to have the "Lol lol lol sure whatever little consumer I'll sit here in this Ivory tower surrounded by money, what can you do". Now look how much Sony have been humbled by consumers going "I think I'll go with the 360 this generation or buying the Wii. Sony fell hard. Microsoft will too because they're acting worse than Sony at the end of the PS2 Era. Customers aren't stupid and they'll go with what they see as the best option. The 360 won out as it had unified online where the PS2 didnt and PS3's online took a long time to be worthwhile. But times change and services get better. Continuing free multiplatlyer could be Sonys Ace in the hole. You call this free money but how free is it really when chances are, its only going to get you a partial market. It will never get you even close to a record breaking generation. Your unit sales will always be mediocre making you far less profitable since you now have less of a userbase. Now that PSN is evolved, keeping things like apps and multiplayer free gives consumers less of a reason to go to the competition. So the money isn't really free since with the subscription, you are going to have less customers to blow thousands of dollars on other things.[QUOTE="Murderstyle75"][QUOTE="mems_1224"] Damn, no wonder sony is gonna start charging for multiplayer next gen. There are no other exclusive features to the service. People pay to unlock multiplayer in games they already paid for and access a netflix app that they are already paying netflix for.

I guess they like paying for what is free everywhere else: multiplayer, Netflix, Facebook, etc.
Wouldnt be so bad if being a Gold member removed ALL the ads. Think it's stupid that even on the console's dashboard there are ads all over the damn place. Makes the console look cheap and tacky.

Your are silly you want to know something about P2P is really call peer to peer connection,is when you connect directly with another system using your internet connection or lan on a multiple systems, you don't need a fu**ing single server to have P2P connection,in fact i played on the original xbox online without xbox live, yeah we use a tunneling program and played Halo CE multiplayer by peer connection, you don't need a server.
Is basically Napster or Limewire where you connected to other people computers and downloaded a file from the computer who had the file rather than from a server.
MS servers are for stats keeps, achievements and all that crap, not for gaming almost all games on 360 i dare say 99% are P2P,this is not the same on PS3 which has more games on servers.
And by the way and again Sony does have those servers to and i play online free, hell sony has even more servers since they run Home as well.
Damn, no wonder sony is gonna start charging for multiplayer next gen. They are losing a ton of money by hosting all these servers for games no one plays. mems_1224

Oh they have drop them, most sony games now are P2P as well, only a hand full or really big games use servers, for example Uncharted 3 is P2P,Starhawk runs on servers.
I payed for xbox live, when 360 was my main system. I still kept buying xbox live gold after I had bought pc, because I played online with friends on it. Now most of my friends have steadily switched to ps3 and pc for their online gaming. Just because online gaming (which is p2p lol) on 360 is behind paywall, and that is ripoff.
Because we can. Because it's none of your business what we choose to spend our money on. That's the short answer. The longer answer is that if you don't understand it or don't agree with it, that is to say that you already possess a bias, what's the point of explaining it to you? You've already made up your mind and have likely thus chosen not to purchase live. Which is fine. Others have and feel the value is worth it. Value is, after all, based on personal preference and willingness to accept or reject certain conditions or terms.AncientDozer

No that is silly XBL has no value what so ever, and charge you for things every one else get free,if every car maker gave cars for free and only ford charge for them, they would have not value, not matter if ford claim that their cars are better because it comes wash and detailed.
Â
This is xbox live that charge has been in place for 11 years,on xbox it was just voice chat on all game and friend list, there was no party chat,no netflix or other crap ou were charge to be allow to play online and the structure as P2P as well, the things MS use now to justify live are a joke, and the hide of apps under live show how sillyand value less XBL really is,is so sad that MS was force to hide apps like netflix under a pay wall,to actually make xbox live seem more atractive, there is not a single reason on this planet why netflix, hulu or other apps have to be hide under live gold.
In fact netflix is actually superior on PS and is not hide,is not hide on cell phones either or tablet.
The fact that you see value on something doesn't mean it really has it,now PSN+ does have value you pay you play games for your money,on xbox live you get nothing.
And the most sad part is that if there is 1 company who can easily eat the cost of free online gaming is MS,and their fans don't see that.
in what sense did we lose? Who the fawk made this declarations??? The 360 has a shitty library and hasn't had a decent game released in a while, while you guys are shelling out money and not asking questions about where it's all going. We didn't lose. The 360 and wii are done for this gen, while PS3 is going to continue getting support for a few more years. well that's easy enough to demonstrate.[QUOTE="xxunnecessaryxs"][QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]
lol, nothing drove cows more apeshyt ballistic  than watching the ps3 lose to a system that charged money for online.
this may have been the most entertaining  thing in sw to watch overall this entire  gen.
just think for one moment about how many xbl threads they have made.
i bet the average for the last 7 years has been a minimum of 4 Â a week... for longer than 7 freaking years.
hey cows and xbl... get a room already.
Riverwolf007
look in this thread at who is bytchy about how other people piss away the money they earn?
now you need to realize that not having to play games or be around  people like that  is a bargain at any price and means the xbox crowd ended up with the better deal.
are there any other things i pay for that make you unhappy that you would like to cry about here while you have an audience?
my dobermans  eat in two weeks what xbl costs for a year.  want to judge that?
i pay  $100 for a 2 replacement water filters on the fridge each year when there is a cheap water tap right there in the same room.Â
want to get all indignant over that?Â
i have an unending stream of stupid bullshyt that i waste money on that  crushes by orders  of magnitude the paltry  rip off that xbl is.
can't you see what you look like when you bytch about how other people piss away the money they earned?
who wants to be around a bunch of petty crybabies  like that?
do you no how much i care that some dude on here paid $500 for a video card? i don't care about it at all, enjoy it.
want to know how much i care if some guy pays for ps+ to play games that i played 8 months ago? Â i don't care about that at all, enjoy them.
do you know how much i care that some dude payed $350 for a wii?
or $70 for a vintage atari game?
or a fast hardrive?
or some  steam mega collection of something i dont really care for personally?
i don't care about that at all. enjoy that stuff. spend your money on whatever  you want to.  what difference does it make?

Why don't you bring your morgage.? Your electric bill, your gass bill and your cloath as well,oh wait you forgot your food as well..
When you prove to me that those are given free by every damn company on this world and that only 1 charge for them you will have a point.
Â
You pay for online because MS was lossing a sh** ton of money on the orignal box, they need it a way to make something back, worst on 360 they hike the price because Activision wanted a damn cut of xbox live pay,all this while MS fatten their wallet on your stupidity.
The worst part is see how you people brag stupidly how much millions in profits MS get out of your pockets with this stupid scam, xbox live is a scam,it has no justification what so ever, and once next gen kicks in it would be even harder to justify paying for xbox live, even more with PSN+.
