for the superior versions of the 360/PC multiplats and the fact that the PC has more exclusives than all consoles combined.

though I have my own gaming pc, and i love it, i can think of a few reasons not to get one:

1. price- though you CAN build a rig for $500, it would be fairly average. one of the main points of having a gaming pc is the increase in power and graphics compared to consoles, so that reason goes out the window when your pc is more or less on par with consoles for $200-300 more

2. games- perhaps the console exclusives simply appeal more to an individual. who are you to say someone should like crysis and starcraft more than demon's souls or halo?

3. friends- maybe all of someone's friends has a certain console. if he got a gaming rig, he wouldn't be able to play with them, and that's a big deal for some people

4. technical knowledge- if you want a cost effective pc, you have to build it yourself. not that it's very hard to do, but not everyone knows how, and not everyone wants to know how. some people prefer to buy a gaming system, plug it in, and play

You don't "need" a PC, but a PC can do a lot more than a 360, and make games look a lot better. Also PC has games a 360 does not.

A PC in the $500 range would wipe the floor with a console.

For the huge amount of exclusives it has over a 360?

That is, if you like those particular exclusives.

This would have been a lot cleaner:

Ya those H50's arent even worth the money because for what you pay for them you can get a good air cooled cpu cooler that cools better. Plus dont have to worry about the pump failing and frying the cpu, at least if the fan dies you can still cool the cpu passively and replace the fan for cheap. that V8 is i7 passive (no fan) approved...

The V8 is a decent cooler at best all it has going for it are its looks.... I've seen reviews on both, but cnt be asked to look for them. But just asking the quastion at an overcloking community, they all agree the H50 is the better of the two. Plus I have the H50 and it keeps my i7 at 4ghz at 25c idel, and about 50c while gaming.

We also have the HAF 932, that really helps in overall cooling. the V8 on my cpu at 3ghz stock keeps it 25C idle and 42C max when chewing through Seti@home and programs that keep the cpu at 100% which games dont always do. I bet if you ran programs like that you would see 60C+ even though still lower then what stock cooler does.

1) NeoGAF, built a 500 dollar PC back in 2009 (probably cheaper now) that can run Crysis 30FPS + atat 1680x1050

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366177

2) Preference is preference, its subjective. But what is objective is the PC has far more exclusives.

3) If people didn't just stick with consoles this wouldn't be a problem.

4) Websites like NCIX will build it for you for 40 dollars (with combo) if you don't want to build it.

Yes, it's a fact. But if a person's preference (confirmed subjective) is not interested in them, that's reason enough for not owning a gaming PC. Which answers your question on the thread's title.

PC has so many exclusive games, superior (often FAR superior) multiplats and top quality mods that there is something for everyone. Just look through Webners list.

Numberof games is a faceless statistic. The actual games is what get people interested, not a number.

Example: Subject A is interested in BioShock, Bayonetta, ME2, Halo Reach, Red Dead Redemption and Alan Wake. He buys a 360 accordingly.

Somebody telling him "but the PC has more games" means little to him, since he is interested in those games. You could even list PC exclusives that are similar to those games, still irrelevant, he's interested in those games, not similar games.

As I said, different people are interested in different things.

It will be very difficult to go on with this discusion if you continue ignoring the huge subjectivity involved.

Like I stated before, PC has so many games, superior multiplats and mods that it has something for everyone. Just look through adrian wernerlist. I understand holding a console for exclusives, I have a PS3. But that still doesn't give me a good explanation of why one would ignore the PC when it offers so much.

[QUOTE="Sword-Demon"]

though I have my own gaming pc, and i love it, i can think of a few reasons not to get one:

1. price- though you CAN build a rig for $500, it would be fairly average. one of the main points of having a gaming pc is the increase in power and graphics compared to consoles, so that reason goes out the window when your pc is more or less on par with consoles for $200-300 more

2. games- perhaps the console exclusives simply appeal more to an individual. who are you to say someone should like crysis and starcraft more than demon's souls or halo?

3. friends- maybe all of someone's friends has a certain console. if he got a gaming rig, he wouldn't be able to play with them, and that's a big deal for some people

4. technical knowledge- if you want a cost effective pc, you have to build it yourself. not that it's very hard to do, but not everyone knows how, and not everyone wants to know how. some people prefer to buy a gaming system, plug it in, and play

NVIDIATI

A PC in the $500 range would wipe the floor with a console.

Maybe now, but could you have built an equally powerful PC to a 360 for that price at the start of this gen? And won't it be the same next gen, when a console will equal a mid-high end PC for £300?

Consoles are always more powerful than computers at launch, but the lead only lasts for mere months; technology moves on, consoles do not. If we are to compare consoles of today to computers of 2005, shall we also use the prices for HDTV's from 2005? No?

Didn't think so.

Alright so your saying that the fact that PC has more MMO and RTS games than consoles is a NEGATIVE on the PC? Right....Yes it has multiplat games, but they are significantly superior than the console versions. Especially when we include mods. Some multiplats are so superior on PC, like TF2, that they are practically completely different games.

BTW, saying "I don't care for mods" is a very weak attempt to dismiss a very important feature. Why would you not care for something that you get for FREE that makes your game FAR better?

I was a PC-only gamer, up until just before the end of last gen. I got sick of all the PC-related problems, and instabilities. I saw how much focus and resources were being put into the console-gaming market. Then I also noticed, that all my friends had bought one machine, that lasted them 6+ years and still played everything smoothly. For too many people, computers are to much work to keep them functioning properly. Unless you have a STRICTLY gaming only rig, you're bound to run into problems eventually, even with the proper protection. In the end, I am glad I am playing(mostly) consoles at this point, because I think (imo) PC devs are getting sick of the amount of piracy in the PC-gaming market. Just look at the sales figures, considering how many computers there are out there, these numbers are pathetic. Not saying consoles don't have piracy issues, just obviously PC has a WAY bigger problem. Therefor publishers and developers alike see console sales number often(and easily) in the millions. only a few PC games have the same sales, and they mostly come from one company.

And if you like fighting and Action Adventure games the pc gets romped. It all comes down to your main prefrence im not sure why that is so hard for you to understand. How is the pc version of GOW3? Castlevania:LOS, RDR, Tekken 6, SC4, BB o wait there is no pc version my bad.

Bull****. Because it's only been this gen that consoles were capable of playing games smoothly through the entire generation right?

it makes perfect sense. I don't care for Mods.... they do not interest me

Then I'm assuming you totally despise games like Counter Strike. After all, those were mods before. All I can say is that I highly doubt you even played a game with a mod to judge.

it has alot more than consoles. It may have alot muliplat games... but i have a console for that.

TheSterls

Alright so your saying that the fact that PC has more MMO and RTS games than consoles is a NEGATIVE on the PC? Right....Yes it has multiplat games, but they are significantly superior than the console versions. Especially when we include mods. Some multiplats are so superior on PC, like TF2, that they are practically completely different games.

BTW, saying "I don't care for mods" is a very weak attempt to dismiss a very important feature. Why would you not care for something that you get for FREE that makes your game FAR better?

And if you like fighting and Action Adventure games the pc gets romped. It all comes down to your main prefrence im not sure why that is so hard for you to understand. How is the pc version of GOW3? Castlevania:LOS, RDR, Tekken 6, SC4, BB o wait there is no pc version my bad.

How is the console version of Crysis 1? Or Stalker? Or Starcraft 2?

you just cant accept someones choice or opinions in gaming. I dont like PC gaming, I dont care for Mods, I dont for the "Exclusive" games that are on PC, I dont care that the muliplat games have better graphics on PC. My opinion and choice, deal with it.

Are those fighting and action adventure games? Why is it so hard for you to grasp this concept hermits. It depends on what kind of games you like its as simple as that.

another small note. I live in a relatively tiny(population 45000-50000) town, and there is only ONE store here that sells Computer games, and that is The Source. Unless its something like WOW, or an expansion for that, they don't get it. Leaving me to drive 45minutes+ away. Whereas 10 soon to be 13 places sell xbox and ps games. So for most, it's convenience. PS: Alot of people don't even have any idea about the difference between ram and disk space, or how fast the CPU is.. Anyone can buy a console game and put it in the drive. PPS: and here in NA, people love dem some couches... yes sir ee

No, but 2 were FPS. So consolites don't like FPSs now? :| And this is the only fighter I need for the PC. ;)

[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="argetlam00"]2) Preference is preference, its subjective. But what is objective is the PC has far more exclusives.argetlam00

Yes, it's a fact. But if a person's preference (confirmed subjective) is not interested in them, that's reason enough for not owning a gaming PC. Which answers your question on the thread's title.

So people aren't interested in large # of exclusives, mods and superior multiplats?

Nope. Next question?

I own a gaming pc and im a consolite and of the fps you mention only Crysis ws good i thought Stalker sucked and its not even that critcally accalimed so why do you guys act like its the next big AAA hit. If we want to compare exclusive FPS consoels have just as many its RTS and MMO where pc gets most of its high quality exclusives that are not on consoles and consolites dont care abou that. I enjoy SC2 and WC3 but thats about the only RTS I get into.

[QUOTE="dRuGGeRnaUt"]I was a PC-only gamer, up until just before the end of last gen.

If you were a PC-only gamer for a considerable amount of time, surely you'd learn your system. Computers are only as safe/efficient/etc as their user; one's computers failing says more about one than about the computer. People are lazy, I get that, but it is not work (as you put) to keep them running. Piracy is a multi-faceted problem with many angles, but your statement is a bit ridiculous. Considering how many people are on the earth, movie ticket sales are pathetic. See what I mean? Console games sell 90% of their lifetime sales within the first ~3 months from retail. PC games sell a moderate amount over many many years. In this economy, it would only make business sense to go for the big cash grab, that's how the world goes around. If you were to ask me, piracy hasn't increased that much; sure the numbers may have gone up, but so has a) the user-base (and as such, the percentage is probably very undifferentiated) and b) the amount of people with access to the Internet. Many people actively do not know software piracy is wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if some PC developers saw console games getting big sales and just resorted to calling the black flag upon piracy as their software's initial sale's were not in sextuple figures. But then again it begs to ask why developers like Stardock can sell millions, without any form of DRM whatsoever. - Both consoles and PC are grand systems to play on, anyone who suggests otherwise is missing out.
