many lemmings claimed XBL is a wonderful service and it is the best online experience like there's nothing before it.

well, hello?! XBL costs you $50 a year, so itĀ SUPPOSED to be better than PC, Wii, and PS 3 online. its a automatic given. something that costs you should be better than something you got for free.

but guess what? PC online >>>>>> XBL

and i don't need to state the obvious reasons rite? and sooner or later, Home will come out to match with XBL.

this video should speak for itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgVndZg7-aM

and if you still don't think XBL is a rip-off, i offer you another reason.

some of you lemmings claimed, "bu.. bu... $50 a year just means $4.17 a month, its cheap!!11!"

well, do you guys know that you can also get a laptop for $20 a month too? so lets do the math, after 4,5 years, you'll get a laptop had you paid $20 a month to a computer company, while you got uh...uh... nothing from XBL except some enjoyment which is offered free elsewhere (PC, Wii, and PS3).

I find it hard to call something that cost around 14cents a day a "rip-off". So far I haven't had any issues with the service for what it costs.

If you enjoy the service and get everything out of it that you want then it's not a rip-off. It might not be worth it to you but it is to others, be that because of ignorance or choice.

is buying one game a year a rip off??

because that is the price of live....you really need to try harder to convince anyone its a rip off..

its a good fun service that costs next to nothing over the course of the year...

ok its good to have things free but you get what you pay for in this life and xbl offers more than psn and pc online does so what all this about again.........???

Thank you. Same as why people are willing to shell out monthly payments of 15 dollars for one single game.

I really think most gamers are poor that hang around here, i mean they only buy AAA games, they can't pay for extra content, they can't pay for little extras for there consoles and they can't buy more then one console an call themselves gamers and the majority of them think pc gaming is expensive.Ā

Bunch of bums around here if you ask me RP :DĀ

Were not paying 50 a month. Were paying that in a year. In a year you will waste 50 and in a year paying 20 a month you will waste 240

Home is basically a Sims clone. And please, bashing the price of XBL is rediculous. It's dirt cheap.Ā >_>

And I'm not seeing any decentĀ alternatives to XBL for the 360, so... if you have a complaint, take it up with Microsoft, not System Wars. The Lemmings don't care about a lack of Sims clone, or a dirt cheap price. >_>

XBL is very easy to use and has a very clean feel to it. With PC games you need to connect to different servers for different games. If you are at college you realize how frustating this is, going to IT with a different port to open with new game. Most IT departments will only open the very popular ports because of security. XBL requires only one set of port and because you need to use XBL if you want to play online it is quite popular. PS2 did not do this so at most colleges PS2 cant go online. It is less the cost of one game a year and you get free months left and right and best of all it allows me to play online at my college.

I am a PC gamer first and I really enjoy online gaming. I am really into WOW now but XBL is great.Ā

ok, here's some math for you in case you failed in your highschool education.

$20 a month * 12 month a year * 5 years = $1200, there you'll get a laptop

$4.17 a moth * 12 month a year * 5 years = $250, and well, you know what you get.

Ā

Game13a13y

There is a reason. I can always get a game. I can simply turn on my xbox and instantly i'm connected. I press a single button and have a list of friends who i can invite to play whatever game i like with me, regardless of what they're doing. They simply get a pop-up message, accept or decline, and bam they're in my game. Or i can instantly select them and kick up a video/audio chat. Instantly.

That and with PC games you have to find a good server and have different identities all over the place. With Live, so long as somebody else wants to play you can ALWAYS get a game. Games dont reach a certain point and then have their servers shut off or moved to another game because it's not popular anymore.

And that's just scratching the surface. I didn't even mention that in a single button press i can see every single game any player has played, compared in a table to the games i've played so i can see how far he is in Rainbow Six to me, how many kills he has in the Halo 3 beta compared to mine, what percentage of Gears he's finished.

It's online gaming perfected. Ā

Exactly.

last week I was helpoing a friend of mine get through Castlevania SotN (still an awesome game BTW) just by looking at his profile screen.Ā  It tells you exactly where he was located.Ā  If that's not cool I don't know what is.

TC, I'd suggest If you have a 360 to give XBL a try for one month before you trash it.

While you didn't respond to my points at all, i'll simply highlight this:

XBox Live has six million members. The original Xbox had three million members on XBox Live, before a free version was even available. The simple fact is, you say you can get something just as good for free; well then why doesn't anyone use it? The PS2 had what, five times the user-base as the Xbox? Why did so many choose the xbox for online gaming, then? How come so many people opted for xbox live? Why are so many people happily paying for it?

Simply put; because it's better. Much better. And worth the money. Really is that simple. You do not understand that concept, as you do not have xbox live.Ā

Yeah I don't see where he's going with these poor comparisons and analogies. One is a service the other is a piece of hardware, one that would lose it's usefulness well before the end of 5yrs. Further more $20 isn't $5 either. I just don't see his point, assuming he has one.

The most hilarious thing was the cows the other day saying "yeah but 3d characters and environments are way better than just text!"

I then explained that to add a friend on xbox live, you press A on their gamertag and then select "send friend request." They get a little pop-up on the bottom of the screen which they can reply to instantly or ignore and come back to later in their inbox. They can accept or decline, and if they accept they're then added to your friend's list.

After that, i asked them to explain how that process works on HOME. And it turns out you physically walk up to somebody and then (here's the funny part) press a button and choose "friend request". You then carry out the exact same process.

So you're saying it's better to save your money up for FIVE YEARS ($250) and simply deal with the inferior online service, so you can buy what... some games? I dunno; what can you get for $250 which is worth waiting five years for?

so, going to the gym to lose weight is rip off because we can do sit up at home or run around the park?

it's the matter of choice

quocthai

ok, here's the difference. some gym is free! (lilke those in a dorm or apartment complex) and they are pretty nice. so if you can get into those free gym, who the heck would still want to pay? yep, only idiots.

what are you talking about, i'm saying the price you get for XBL can easily be used to buy something more useful, such as: laptop. or if you don't like to get a laptop, then you can get a nicer LCD, a nicer cough, or whatever. but at least you can get something more practical, unlike XB. which basically ends up getting you nothing.

don't say oh... i get enjoyment, blah blah.. you can get better enjoyment for that money. and online is free elsewhere, thats the point, get it?

You might as well tell people not to buy games so they can buy things that are "more useful." >_>

I fail to see how pc online isn't totally a ripoff when more people pay $15 a month for WoW than people who pay $4.17 a month for xbox live. That's 3/4 of the price of a laptop by your calculations.

I've seen the videos. Now I ask you again, how does having a moving avatar and having to walk around to get the same things you get with the press of a button with XBL improve the game experience.

HOME "sounds" cool, but even Gamespot is asking the same question I am.

Anyone else notice how he just ignores all of the posts which destroy his whole arguement? It's been done numerous times already.

well, do you guys know that you can also get a laptop for $20 a month too? so lets do the math, after 4,5 years, you'll get a laptop had you paid $20 a month to a cowmputer company, while you got uh...uh... nothing from XBL except some enjoyment which is offered free elsewhere (PC, Wii, and PS3).

Ā

WHAT?

Game13a13y

ok, here's some math for you in case you failed in your highschool education.

$20 a month * 12 month a year * 5 years = $1200, there you'll get a laptop

$4.17 a moth * 12 month a year * 5 years = $250, and well, you know what you get.

Ā

I don't see you point.Ā  Why are you comparing a labtop to xlive?Ā  Second, you comparing 20 to 4.17.Ā  Third, anybody who paying forĀ outdateĀ labtop after 5 years in anĀ idiot.Ā  I can truly tellĀ that yourĀ young and don't know what you are talking about.Ā

Again that doesn't make sense.

$20 != $4

Hardware != Services

Limited ability over time != Consistent ability over time

Your analogy is poor. And who are you to say what we get enjoyment from and what we would enjoy more. Must have missed the memo that said you would speak for all of us.

6 million people pay for it. And the number keeps rising. The PS2 had five times the install base of the xbox, yet developers still made their online games on the xbox. Why? Because nobody uses the PS2 online; even though it's free, and apparently just as good.

Face it; you dont have xbox live, you have no idea how awesome it is, and therefore have no concept of its value.Ā

Here's a factor you left out:

PSN is free

XBL Gold costs 50 bucks a month

For XBL, you need a 360 or a PC with Vista

For PSN, you need a PS3

So to get that "better online," you need to buy a PS3 at $600. So I'm paying two hundred dollars more to purchase a PS3 than a 360, or four hundred more than for Vista. If it's so expensive to get the capability for that "free online," well... somewhat defeats the purpose? Just a thought? >_>Ā

I find it hard to call something that cost around 14cents a day a "rip-off". So far I haven't had any issues with the service for what it costs.-RPGamer-
