It'll probably be the best of this gen but as for best system ever, not a chance in hell.
PS4 will be nowhere near as awesome as the PS2, GameCube, PS1, N64 or the SNES.

It's already in my top 5, only behind Megadrive, Snes, Playstation 1 and 360.
What's not to love?
Massive library, great graphics, 1080p became standard, most games perform very well at 30 or 60fps, lots of diversity and unique experiemces mostly due to indie massification, the ability to easily reccord and upload our pics and vids, and on top of everything, there are no mandatory casual/motion peripherals.
Yeh...i have one collecting dust on my desk. Haven't realized yet that it's the greatest of all times.
So far no, the PS4 won't be remembered as a milestone system. Since the PS2/NGC/Xbox nothing changed in the gaming world... it is pretty much only better graphics since they reuse the same controler layout, they still use online ... the only new thing is DLC and it is a plague so yeah ...
It won't even be in the top 5, it's selling like hot cakes but it's one of the most unremarkable consoles to have ever released, it's vanilla ice cream.
Exactly, because if we go by sales numbers alone that would mean we would have to put the original Wii on the top of the list, but we all know the Wii was a gold plated turd.
are you joking??? its one of the dullest and most uninspired consoles ever made. It has absolutely no unique selling point and it took forever for a decent amount of quality software to arrive. Personally it just doesnt have games that interest me yet. It could change, im sure it will this year but greatest of all time. Not even close.
It seems extremely unlikely. I only have two games in its collection that I'd consider really good with a third coming in a couple of days (It will most likely be my most played game this generation). It has a really slow start right now. My Wii U is heavily outpacing it with 8-9 really good games in my collection with a 10th contender coming at the end of this year.
Yes PS4 does everyhting right this gen and puts power back into the hands of the GAMER
PS2 helped usher in DVD, in slightly treaded in the online gaming relm.
PS3 made Blu Ray main stream.
PS4 just kicked the door wide open and meshed the live, learn and love philosophy with the by gamers for gamers mantra.
Now wonder PS4 is current gen 8 console leader.
not a very convincing case for the ps4
No convincing needed when PS4 enjoys almost a 2:1 sales advantage and is winning the hearts and minds of gamers everywhere including NA.
Sales don't make a system legendary, the gaming experiences shared by owners do and not sure if the PS4 is going to offer it in the spades that the PS2 did.
@xxyetixx:
Dreamcast dabbled into the online world first, then Xbox made it something more solid
Sure the PS2 helped for the DVD bt the Xbox also helped ... and the PS2 as a DVD player was quite crappy even when it lunched
PS3 again helped with Blueray as it was the cheapest Blueray player when it came out but what really helped is the porn industry... whatever the porn industry use will be the format that will survive... because at the same time Microsoft tried to sell us HD-DVD format which died quite fast.
In a word, no. Yes it's selling units that are mind blowing but it doesn't differ from its competition at all. Both the X1 and the PS4 are similar with one being a little more powerful than the other. They have the same features, plays the same games and do the same thing. PS2 and Nintendo are the kings of consoles in their generation and introduce new and better innovative for years to come.
Hell no way.
Sales wise there is a small chance but overall ... there were greater systems than PS4.
What makes PS4 look like the real deal is because of the pathetic Wii U performance and X1s tragic decisions to follow motion control trends after Wii for obvious reasons which led them to the position they are right now . Its like PS4 playing solo console wise at this moment. Literally. PS4 wins in regions it shouldnt without even try when all biggest guns of their rivals are out !
Nx is the only system it might stop PS4s momentum but Nintendo needs to bring it hard since PS4 userbase is big and getting bigger each month.
It won't even be in the top 5, it's selling like hot cakes but it's one of the most unremarkable consoles to have ever released, it's vanilla ice cream.
Vanilla is by far the best ice cream though.
It's the highest volume moving flavor, however it's unremarkable, it's plain.
Dissing vanilla ice cream should be a bannable offense.

Well said. PS4 has no competition in sales this gen. And that is not a good thing. It has made Sony extremely lazy. They have been handed the gen on a silver platter by Microsofts **** up, and Nintendo being in its own little world. So Sony actually taking effort this gen? Hah!
However, WiiU and PC have much better games, which are the main selling point of a system. The former having a great collections of exclusives, and the latter making the PS4/XBone almost pointless by having the superior versions of multiplat games since they have so few exclusives that are actually good.
Unless they get an avalanche of absolute must play exclusives over the next couple of years, that go on to be timeless games, then **** no lol. None of the consoles from this gen will go on to be considered greats the way things are going now.
At best, the PS4 might have a legacy that equals the PS3, but it will never stand alongside the PS1 and PS2.
I believe the WiiU may cut out some super cult niche following akin to the Dreamcast in the coming years, but even that's a stretch.
PS4 and Xbone hardly have identities though. They're just glorified multiplat boxes that have been playing host to some of the weakest AAA output the industry has seen. And a handful of exclusives here and there, most of which aren't even that good, isn't going to put either of these consoles in league with the all time greats.
This is not to say that they're terrible consoles. On their own, they provide nice varied libraries with tons of stuff to play. But they didn't bring anything of impact to the table and their libraries don't have a distinct identity like the greatest consoles of the past.

Geez, in my neck of the woods HEB brand ice cream has like 5 vanilla flavors from where to choose, all of them vanilla and still, all of them different.
@Juub1990: have those SNES games don't even compete with later games in their franchises though. Mario kart 8 >>>>> any other mario kart, let alone super mario kart
Hmmm. The SNES has the better Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Yoshi, Metroid, and Donkey Kong (this one is arguable, I guess). The Wii U does have a better Mario Kart, as well as Smash, which the SNES does not have at all, in addition to Xenoblade, Splatoon, and The Wonderful 101, but I am not sure if those are enough to tip the scales away from the SNES. Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and A Link to the Past alone are considered the greatest games ever made- throw in Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 as well, and this starts getting a bit stupid at this point, no other console has had such a concentrated list of 'Greatest Game Ever' contenders.
@jcrame10: I usually go back and forth between SNES and Gamecube myself, yeah. N64 used to be up there, but sadly, it aged really badly.
@charizard1605: ocarina of time is my favorite Zelda ever. Yoshis story, goldeneye multiplayer, donkey kong 64 multiplayer, smash bros, mario kart 64, Turok, perfect dark, banjo kazooie, star fox, majoras mask, it's not all bad
Oh, definitely. N64 has a great library, I am not contesting that. I just think that, outside of Mario 64 and the two Zelda games, maybe Pokemon Stadium, the games aged fairly poorly. It's a shame, but I mean, a proto 3D library was bound to age poorly lol. Most PS1 3D games also aged equally bad (the best aging PS1 games are the ones that were 2D).
@charizard1605: I'd have to argue that Wii U easily has the better Mario and Donkey Kong games, but it's hard to compete with A Link to the Past and Super Metroid.

I agree on Donkey Kong.
@Heil68: I will say PS4 save us from what MS trying to do with DRM and check in every 24 hours. I mean wtf? Check in every 24 hours????
@charizard1605: I think the best playing and best looking games of that era were Crash and Zelda. Too notch. Spyro would be up there too if it wasn't for the awkward camera at times.
See, this is why I want to return to an era when major 3D platformers aren't a rarity. How good does a new Spyro that isn't Skylanders and doesn't have a terrible camera sound? So good :(
