@flyincloud1116: The 360 is an excellent console. The tail end of the system's cycle was not up to standard, but the net result remains that the system is without a doubt one of the best systems of all time. And this is coming from a staunch critic of the XB1.
Absolutely not, same thing goes for Xbox One as well. I believe it has to more of the type of games offered. What happened to the wide variety of game gernes like it was in the early 2000's? Extreme sports games such as SSX come to mind. Very small of racing games as well. COD is very boring and I think it's time we get a WW1 or 2 COD or even better a civil war or American revolution. Not enough cool games like they used to be. I would love to see a Sonic Adventure 3 (If Nintendo were smart, they would make this a timed exclusive to sell the NX).
This generation is lame so far.
He's also right (maybe not top 2 but it's definitely top 10), just a shame that Microsoft didn't copy everything from the Xbox 360.

I dont have a problem with Top 10. It's behind the SNES, NES, N64, PSOne, PS2, PS3, Genesis, Dreamcast, and possibly the PS4.
Well that's just insulting to consoles. For a start it can't touch even last gen consoles for awesomeness.
Few exclusives, fewer good exclusives. It's just about multiplats, which are also on the PC. Bombarding us with indie games is just a bs to distract us from the problems of this gen.
The only stand out things this gen is sales and the cost of games and dem season passes.
@PAL360: name 3 things it copied. Hype cuase it adapted party chat. Big whoop. Ps4 is missing a lot of features the 360 had and people still want it.
You tried tho
As if ms hasent done some "copying" either
I think at the 2 year point, it is probably the worst of the Playstation line. There is still time to turn it around, but it doesn't look good.
@Livecommander:
It wasn't exactly 'copying', but the whole design and context of PS4 is similar to 360's:
@charizard1605: I'd have to argue that Wii U easily has the better Mario and Donkey Kong games, but it's hard to compete with A Link to the Past and Super Metroid.
Nah, it really doesn't. Don't be silly.
It goes, Yoshi's Island > World > Galaxy 2 > Galaxy > Mario 64 > Sunshine (yeh I said it, it's mechanically amazing) > SMB3 > 3D World > SMB >>>>>>>> Little Big Planet >>> NSMB games. They just feel so unsatisfying to play. Almost like there's a latency when jumping, it's not tight platforming really.

Hm. No, 3D World is easily better than the first, though not the second, Galaxy game. Albeit it lacks the mechanical inventiveness of Galaxy, definitely.
@Juub1990: doesn't matter what they agree with, facts are facts. 360 had more of an impact on the industry than PS2 did. The rise of indie games, western developers finally surpassing Japanese developers, the explosion of online gaming, streaming services, achievements, etc...MS may not have been directly responsible for all that but the 360 was at the forefront and leading the way. Sure, the Wii sold more and motion controls were a huge deal but looking at the industry now, no one cares about motion controls but the things the 360 helped establish, like online gaming, like Indies are still around and bigger than ever.
Ps2 was a great console that sold a lot and had great third party support but it didn't completely change the gaming industry the way the 360 did
The 360 changed the industry far more than the SNES did. In fact the 360 sits with the NES and the SNES sits more with the PS2, except less so because the 16 bit craze was around long before the SNES hit the market. Point is, impact on the industry isn't what makes something the best or even the greatest, otherwise the NES would be sitting pretty at the top. And we all know the SNES > everything else. But that's because of it's mad good library. Comparatively, the 360 is still in discussion with the PS3 when it comes to library.

I just don't like how 3D World controls. Like it was made for D-Pad. The level design is top notch for the most part, the platforming is good, but made worse by the lesser mechanics. Not a fan of the cat suit. Sunshine has the opposite problem, getting around feels amazing and fluid, but it's levels are fucked. I just like how the game plays though so. Which is also why I hold M64 in such high regard, because it plays just as well as Sunshine but with more memorable and fun levels. Player expression is the word, and 3D World doesn't have as much of it, by a large margin.
@bobrossperm: New Super Mario Bros. U was the mario I was thinking of actually. It's more clever with its level design, offers higher challenge, and more quality content. Sure, Mario World was a bigger deal for its time, but the console NSMB games are very much better. The star coins more than anything is what pushes them well over previous 2D Marios.
In a lot of ways I consider NSMBU a stronger game than any 3D mario game from a level design perspective. It has more focus and more depth than recent 3D outings.
Based on what? It hasn't done anything new or had any influence of any kind. It's not the SNES or 360 or PS2. It's an expensive expansion pack for last gen consoles that doesn't even let you play your old games
It's done a lot more than X1, that's a certainty.

The 360 didn't change the industry that much. The 360 improved on things that came before, but brought little that was new. It's SegaNet that deserves most of the credit for establishing online gaming on consoles, followed by the original Xbox Live which was around before the 360. The rise of indie gaming was largely due to the rise of mobile gaming. The 360 may have introduced streaming services and achievements, but those are just gimmicks.
The SNES changed the game industry way more than the 360 and PS3 combined. The SNES controller, with its four face buttons and two shoulder buttons, set the standard layout for controllers to this day. The SNES was the first console with hardware support for three-dimensional scaling & rotation. It had the first console chip specifically designed for 3D polygons, the SuperFX. It had one of the first console modems for online gaming, Satellaview. And without the SNES, the PlayStation or Xbox wouldn't exist.
No, that honor goes to the PS2.
I would give it to the SNES. Greatest PS2 exclusives are Persona 4, GOW, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and the like. They are excellent games but they simply don't compete against the best SNES exclusives. ALTTP, Super Mario World 2, Mario Kart, Contra III, Super Mario RPG, Star Fox, Super Metroid and many many more.
OK sheep

Those aren't the best PS2 exclusives. Best PS2 exclusives are the Jak games, the Ratchet and Clank games, Final Fantasy XII, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Disgaea, Phantom Brave, etc.
Shadow of the Colossus is definitely one of the most overrated games of all time though. Clunky, boring, awkward, and lifeless are all adjectives I would use for that game.
HELL NO!
Just to put things in perspective It's the WORST playstation console which automatically makes the thread title pure comedy.
Is it selling? Sure... but did the original Wii sell well too? Sure did. Are both the original Wii and ps4 crap? They sure are. It's about the games man and this console is pure garbage on that front. Not to mention a terrible online network. So what is there to brag about? Sales?
Also I'd really like to know how old some of the people are in this thread trying to defend it. Because if you're an older gamer who has seen the best of consoles such as the SNES, Dreamcast or PS2 then you absolutely don't have a clue if you even try to bring the ps4 in the discussion. Please stop.
I dont have a problem with Top 10. It's behind the SNES, NES, N64, PSOne, PS2, PS3, Genesis, Dreamcast, and possibly the PS4.
The notion that the PS4 could possibly be ahead of the 360 is utter nonsense.
Also, I'm not really seeing an argument for the Dreamcast being better than the 360. Its library is far inferior.

You're joking with the Little Big Planet thing, right?
I mean, I realize that the NSMB games are uninspired, but come on.

If we're going on "possibility," then you could make the same argument for the X1 being "possibly" better than the 360, but I doubt anybody would actually try to argue that. At the moment, there's no good reason to argue for the PS4 over the 360.

Why not? It is selling at a very high clip historically even, and the games are coming.

If you're going to argue sales, then you might as well crown Wii one of the best consoles ever. Not to mention that it's ridiculous to put Dreamcast ahead of the 360 and then attempt to use sales as an argument.
How is the "games are coming" an argument?
There's no reason to argue the PS4 over the 360 because it is the go-to console for less inspired multiplats and is extremely weak on the exclusive front. And yes, you could argue that the PS4 might eventually be better, but you'd be doing that on blind faith.

Sale isn't the one and only factor, and I think that helps you to get games from all different genre that makes a great console. The PS4 has it all now or it is coming. Not blind faith, many of the games have been announced in some form.

Like I said, if you're gonna argue sales at all, it seems a bit suspect to put the Dreamcast ahead of the 360, especially when the 360 has a more varied library. I don't think your criteria is consistent.
And what games have been announced that indicates that the PS4 will be better than the 360, which is host to the staggering amount of good last gen games.

I feel like a dog chasing my tail, but we agree to disagree.
So sales determine the baddest console of all time? I thought it was games and in that case HELL NO. The PS4 doesn't rank in the top 5 in that regards.
Only sales matter
This is the real world
Sales matter for manufactures/devs/publishers ... not for gamers.

Nope, not at all.
Again, we're talking about the real world here. A world where unless your games sells no more games like it are made again.
The real world. It doesn't matter how good a game is because unless it sells it's worthless.
Maybe to people who started gaming this generation; those who haven't got a clue of what else to compare it too.
I'd put it last of sony's consoles right now, and its not close. It would need something spectacular its second half (if it lasts that long) to land in the top 5, maybe not even the top 10. This gen has been a console bust IMO (if you own a PC)

Mechanically, LBP is trash, but that doesn't mean I don't think there's some clever ideas in there. On top of it being a pretty powerful creation tool. But yeah, you could say I was embellishing. Aside from the obvious hypocriticism from myself when I said NSMB isn't tight platforming, but somehow LBP is held in higher regard, I will say I'd rather fire up LBP than NSMB games. Just play SMW after a NSMB game, it just feels better. The jumpings tighter and you're more in control. The flow in the game you can potentially have is insane.
