torn because I use my TV as a monitor and frankly W7 is still not quite designed to be on such a large screen. However I need that start button and don't want to have to use some rando hack/app to have one. hmmmm wanna get dat cheap price.

Go back to DOS then ;)Plus nobody is forcing you to upgrade. But you can't expect the whole industry to stop moving forward just because you like to cling to old stuff. That old stuff still works, so it's not like you suddenly loose anything anyway
And Vista was needed, it was just rushed
If MS can implement Windows 8 features with the Xbox that would be so awesome. It would probably be next gen though.

As a gamer, does Window 8 offer anything concret in performance gains ?

Agreed, I installed Windows 8 on my desktop to get to know it a bit more for my job. I am actually planning to just dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows 8, using Windows 7 mostly and just play around on 8.Im getting one copy free from Microsoft Expert Zone, so yes, I'm probobly gonna put that on either my laptop or desktop. I pretty much have to learn it and get used to it for my job, so I need one of my PC's running it at least. From what I have played with it so far at work, it's not really that bad as people seem to be making it out to be.

Great examples proving my point, considering people initially clinged even to that crap and refused to switch to Windows XP.

Bebi_vegeta
Yes. It's much lighter and faster OS with smaller memory foot print. Once proper drivers hit the boost will be noticable.
Now, if you're on desktop only then there's no huge incentive to upgrade as long as you don't mind missing out on some games. On laptops though (even without touchscreens) it's a great update.

Better perfomances in games ? So one game ?
Snappier interface... what is that ?
Less ressources hungry... like how much ?

On the first anniversary of Windows XP's release, Microsoft has little to celebrate. ...One solution provider said Windows XP hasn't had any impact on his sales over the past year. "I've not had a single client that wanted to upgrade from any previous version to XP, especially from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. There's just so little difference," said Jeffrey Sherman, president of Warever Computing, a Los Angeles-based solution provider specializing in networks.

Users cling to old Microsoft operating systems. Windows 2000 was the most common OS, running on slightly more than half of machines, while its predecessor, Windows NT4, was still used on 13.3 percent of desktops. Faster boot times... my SSD says Hi. Boot times, really stopped being a issue since then.
From what I can gather, it's more companies that cling to old product... not really consummers ?
So, skulls of Shogun is Xbox arcade game which works with W8... I really taught you were talking about big hits here, like when they stated Halo 2 work only work on Vista or something like that.
I went from XP to Vista to W7... I only wanted Vista for Dx10 games and also got it for free. I got windows 7 because it was a big improvement on Vista on just about everything. But as of now, I don't see the need to go W8 over W7.
I would of skipped Vista, if it wasn't for the only fact of Dx10 and higher.
Now I'm asking the same question... Unless games are really going to run better or more big games become unavailable... W8 won't be for me.
Faster boot times... my SSD says Hi. Boot times, really stopped being a issue since then.Bebi_vegeta
They still boot faster. It also resumes faster. Both are godsend on laptop and a nice little bonus on desktop. Same with faster speed of launchig apps.

I'm pretty sure Skulls of Shogun will actually be better incentive to get W8 than the garbage that Halo 2 port was to switch to Vista
Sure, but you really have no argument against Windows 8. It's objectively better OS than Windows 7. Just because you prefer to use inferior older OS doesn't change that. Heck..some people still see no reason to move from XP either. Now I'm asking the same question... Unless games are really going to run better or more big games become unavailable... Is there a actual comparaison between both OS with SSD ?
Oh Halo 2 was just an example, I wouldn't upgrade my OS for either game...
Well the argument is, money vs what I'm really getting... and, actually waiting for a real review and comparison.
I need a OS that's going to give me something worth it... as of what I've seen, gaming on W8 has it's up and down... and that's a very important factor for me.
I don't blame people keeping XP... if it's working, why fix it ? Maybe I'd still be on XP if it wasn't for gaming and the EOL of XP on every support level.
I'm pretty sure you have inferior PC hardware then what's actually available, why haven't you upgraded ?
