Agreed. Windows 8 is a horrible piece of sh!t and I hope it won't be like that in the next Windows. If it does, then I'll be looking at Linux or other alternatives.

Been using Windows 8 on my laptop since friday's launch and currently love it. It took all but 20 minutes before I was situated with the new layout and the improved performance is just icing on the cake. Metro is unobtrusive and is only visible, when I want to see it(after loging in). I'll be installing w8 on my new gaming pc, when I build it in a year or two.

That's a really nice feature... But these days, application do this for themselfs.

Bebi_vegeta

I guess $15 is too much for you to invest with.

Nice way to end a argument...

So what's this 15$ about ?

$15 is the cost of the upgrade. Your argument wasn't something worth debating about because you ignored the bigger picture.

Baker can't. Its part of who he is. He pretends to adblock evryone but then he comments on your posts anyway with some cute little excuse for why he is replying to you even though he supposedly ad blocked you. ANd he always tell people when he is going to adblock them. Like we give crap what he does.

I got two versions for free, just need to summon the will to carry out installing them and becoming accustomed to it. I have it on VM's right now as part of a Dreamspark thing.

[QUOTE="percech"][QUOTE="MBirdy88"] system wars and backwards elitests for you.GamerwillzPS

People's complaint here is the UI. I guess it's such a terrible thing to have everything you need updated for you when you startup your computer instead of having to bring up your browser and search them one by one. When did convenience become such a terrible thing? There was a huge thread on IGN from people who actually bought it and are loving it. They said they probably won't go back to Win 7 ever again. Win 8 sure does have a lot of smart, interesting features.

Your ignorance is showing.

No actual counter argument, just a gif.

Not surprised though. Windows 8 haters don't tend to have good reasons for hating it beyond hating the new UI.

You could also get the Pro version from the MS website for $35 and I don't think you need to be directly upgrading from Win 7 for that one.

First of all, stop being a Microsoft fanboy who keeps bending over for whatever they throw at you. Sad really.

Windows 8 isn't going to make things easier. I don't like things being done automatically in the background, it usually cause problems. I like to do it in the traditional way, it's just easier to use.

I'm not a computer illiterate, so please just let me do whatever I want. Windows 8 isn't for me.

Oh smooth, immediately jump to the insults.

No, I can't just like Windows 8, I'm just a Microsoft fanboy who takes whatever they throw at me.

It has been proven that Windows 8 Pro is objectively better than Windows 7. It performs better, has less bloat, startup and shutdown times are reduced, has increased security features over Windows 7 and offers improved touch functionality for those who want it without compromising Keyboard/Mouse input for those who don't.

So what, pray tell, are these things "being done automatically in the background" that you don't like?

Again, Windows 8 isn't going to be easy to use. That's my problem, and that's a huge problem for everybody. It's built for computer illiterates.

What I'm hoping is that Microsoft only made this OS specifically for tablet devices while continuing to support the desktop OS, aka Windows 7. I won't have anything to complain about if Microsoft is dealing with 2 separate OSs at the same time.

Then don't use it and click the mouse once to get to the desktop.

Don't want to see Metro? Download Pokki or Start8 and boot into the desktop and turn off the links to it in the settings of either one of those.

I don't see why Microsoft shouldn't have included an interface for tablet/touchscreen users because you and a few others (seeing as the majority opinion is that Windows 8 is a great new OS) don't like it.

Whatever. You guys can believe what you want about Windows 8. Doesn't change the fact that it's objectively better than 7, even if that moronic statement was true.

Nothing is wrong with the "traditional DESKTOP" but you're basically calling a product bad because you seem to think MS are forcing it upon you using knifes and torture when in fact they are simply trying to make the maximum profit by aiming at the broadest audience possible and when you have the possibility to sell to some of the billions of Windows users then hell yes they'll do their best.

No one is saying there's a problem with the GUI as it is but everyone knows this OS is aimed at tablets but can be run just fine on a desktop, if someone wants better features and performance then great go ahead but complaining about one or two minor changes is pointless and outweighed by many improvements. All you need to do is remember a few keyboard shortcuts and you can work Windows 8 faster than Windows 7 and have everything run just fine. There will likely be a free app that turns it into Windows 7 UI but with all the benefits of Windows 8.

Edit: Well there you go, Start8 and Pokki brings back the desktop and one is free, so there you go, the problem you have can be removed with one download.

You made a false statement about Windows 8 being Windows 7 with a tablet compatibility patch. Don't get mad at me for pointing out the idiocy of your own statement.

The_Game21x

He's actually correct. Windows 8 is just Windows 7 with the stupid Metro UI plastered on it.

Backing up an idiotic statemen...with another, equally idiotic statement.

Whatever. You guys can believe what you want about Windows 8. Doesn't change the fact that it's objectively better than 7, even if that moronic statement was true.

the vast majority of the new features on windows 8 are to support windows on tablets, its not an idiot statement based on someone's computing needs. If there were things removed from windows 7 to windows 8 that made it worse for power users so if your looking at an OS for work/productivity, windows 7 is surperior.

[QUOTE="percech"] No you don't. I was able to get it without buying a new laptop.percech

That's great, how the heck I'm I going to do this deal when I built the PC myself ?

You could also get the Pro version from the MS website for $35 and I don't think you need to be directly upgrading from Win 7 for that one.

That's not a bad deal from what I can see.

Right now, my windows 7 is running really great. So don't feel like changing for the sake of changing.

No it's not.

It's been proven time and time again that Windows 8 is faster and more secure than 7 and consequently, work/productivity would be too.

You may not think Windows 8 is better than 7 but that doesn't make your opinion factually accurate.

This video shows you the main reasons why w8 is horrible, having two complety different operating systems designed for two different devices, badly intergrated its horrible. Iam not willing to spend money so I can have the inconvenience of the metro os in the way, and prefomance boost? My sdd says hi, and half of the bench marks tested shows that w7 perfomes better, and I dont realy care for 1fps increase in some games.

for home users it might be more secure, but for a laptop windows 8 isn't an option without bitlocker. The boot/shutdown time is negligible since I'm not turning my workstation on/off the start menu no longer has a global search the uefi is the only feature that's added that really matters but is again negligible with proper malware protection. They merged defender and security essentials together. Windows 8 isn't worth the upgrade, it doesn't add enough functionality to make it worth taking down my workstation to upgrade. It's all geared towards the tablets and the app store.

I'm very pleased that Start8 and Pokki have made it more convenient for users like me who would avoid the Metro UI. That's lovely. If it wasn't for these apps, I would never intend on getting Windows 8 ever. But it's the truth that my worry about the future of Windows still remains.

The only thing putting me off from upgrading is the compatibility of all of my games and programs. I don't want to upgrade only to find that one of my games is not being supported. Just for the sake of change, I won't bother. I'm content with Windows 7 as of now.

I won't have anything to complain about if Microsoft are dealing with 2 separate OSs at the same time.

I'm pretty content with 7 as well, and I can see compatibility being an issue for some games but I think the issues will be seriously small and will be like running Vista games on Windows 7, 99% will be fine, the rest can be solved fairly soon.

Its meant to though.... its not a desktop replacement. that doesnt change the fact that to use it for what it is, its still dead simple.

Why are some people so relucant to having anything change. Metro UI is great, you just have to actually give it a chance. I see all these poele complaining about it in this post and the vast majority haven't even used it.

the problem is it is a desktop replacement, microsoft mixed the tablet OS with the desktop OS, and they both end up harder to use because of it. I had windows 8 installed on my tablet and its terrible. If you have to get to more detailed settings you have to open the desktop control panel...

Your going to have to give more detail than that. I didnt find normal desktop hard on a tablet at all. but then the tasks only available through control panel are ones you only change rarely.
