I've never played a Fable game before. I'm not gonna judge a game I haven't played, but I heard something along the lines that you can't die in Fable, and I lost all interest.
In the first you can, but it's really hard since you've got items that stop you dying and you won't ever run out of them. In the other two it's just impossible to die I'm pretty sure, it's been a while since I played them.I've never played a Fable game before. Great sales that are much bigger than they estimated. Will propably reach close to 2,5-3 mln life-time for PC version alone.
What I found even more amazing is Witcher 1 selling 400K in 2011. Stuff like that is really only possible on PC and shows that supporting your community pays back tenfold.

Nice, correct me if I am wrong but on pc you don"t pay publishing rights, yes?

That's.. not really something to brag about.

That was done mostly byword of mouth.
Well that would be stupid, considering that the development budget is pretty big.
It's not that the number is bad, but I can see why they're putting the game on consoles.

Unless they heavily advertise the 360 version of the game it`s not going to help increase the sale numbersfor the franchise.

Well no sh*t. They should have gone to Warner Bros. to publish and market the PC version.

Publishers fund games, and take a cut of the revenue the game makes. PC devs aren't immune to requiring publishers.
However, CD Projekt Red did self-publish the game through digital outlets, but I think they're having Warner Bros bring the 360 retail release to America, so Warner Bros will see a cut of each 360 version sold.
The only way a developer can avoid paying anyone anything is to both self-publish their game, and to sell it on their own retail outlet. CD Projekt does that on their website GOG.com, so they see 100% of all money coming through that website.
However they give a cut of each copy sold through any retail chain, and that includes PC digital distributers like Steam.

The budget is less than 10 millions (8, IIRC). People tend to forget that you can develop high production values games on PC for much less than on consoles. Then again, console development budgets are bloated by advertising.
Considering the budget, the niche aspect and the lack of advertising, the sales for TW2 are actually pretty good. All the more so since unlike console games (except Nintendo ones), PC games have long legs. TW2 will keep on selling for years.

No it's not. Let's average each copy out at 35 dollars earned per copy. That's a 38.5 million dollar deal. They made a profit of 28.5 million dollars. :|No it's not. They've sold like 800k copies at retail. No platform royalty since it's on PC. Assuming this is close to the truth they were making around $15 per copy sold at retail.

THat's not entirely correct. In some countries CD Project was the publisher. The sales in Poland were over 100K in first month. What's more, I'm pretty sure they got a lot better deal than that in most other countries, considering they actually self-funded the whole development.[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"]Pretty big? Huh? Even on consoles passing 1mln copies is a good news and passing 2mlns usually means making profit and there the budget are 5-10 times bigger than that.THat's not entirely correct. In some countries CD Project was the publisher. The sales in Poland were over 100K in first month.

Not necesseraly. I don't think Crackdown's budget was that big and it sold more than one million, yet MS hesitated to greenlight a sequel.
Don't forget the article says the Witcher sold over 400k units the last year. That s increadible for a game from 2007. It proves that it's worth to release games on PC because on the long run they sell crazy compared to console games wich have a good run for a month and after die off quickly.

Console games don't sell over time. Something with used market.... Especially with SP games.

And who says the Witcher 2 won't sell as much as GT5 next year or even more? Actually those sales are pretty pittyfull if u look at the total numbers of PS3's sold.
Demon's Souls and catherine sold poorly compared to Witcher 2, bayonetta had an utter crapload of advertising.

THe used market doesn't add to sales figures, if anything it reduces sales figures, a lot.
