Would Infamous 2's 7.5 score been such a big deal here if...

It was a big deal it's when I started to lose faith in GS's review which have been terrible IMO lately.

Also to TC question... yes it would have.. the first got a 9.... improvements should score the same if not more... not 1.5 points worse. infamous 2 does everything better than the first. Maybe the story isnt as "strong" but the combat/controls/parkour is much much better. Also he says the karma system is laughable but praises the first games one.campzor

First things first, games do not start at a specified score and "detract" down like each check causes a drop off. The score represents the sum of its worth, and GS thought InFamous 2 was a good game with some issues.

I have a hard time truly dissecting the entirety of the review as I haven't fully completed InFamous 2 as of yet, only put in about 8 or 9 hours into it. Nevertheless, I can see what he means by the issues with the combat system, bad characters, uneven and variable difficulty of firefights, and very uneven pacing. Those are worthy complaints I would levy towards InFamous 2 as well.

The issue with the karma is that there was more variable or grey area material in the first Infamous as his review notes in regards to the food issue at the beginning, or at the latter half of the game, it's not entirely evil nor is choosing between...

Infamous 2 is rigidly defined between good and evil and there isn't any variation from what I've seen; once again, a fair minded complaint.

...you guys didn't insist on hyping the thing to be AAA? it has an 8.3 at metacritic which really isn't that far off from gamespot's 7.5 and there were 17 other sources who rated it the same as or LOWER than gs did.

The problem is that it really was a great game, and IMO undeserving of such a low score. Most people I've talked to here seem to agree with me.

Of course they are mad, it didn't get a 9.0 like the original or higher so it's a fail.

an 8.3 on metacritic would be rounded to an 8.5 here? that's not how it works. each review source has their own standards.

my point is...the score wasn't that far off and gs was not alone yet the treatment is that the score was way off and that gs stood alone. if the game wasn't hyped as much as it was, would the review be as notorious as it for some reason is?

Im sorry first of all both infamous 1&2 are cleary black and white choices.Everything about infamous 2 felt better then part one. At least after beating both games twice thats how I feel.

Casey, I'm not sure I understand why you're bringing up such a seemingly elementary question, especially on a game where so much time has passed. I think it's pretty obvious that around SW, hype threads kind of frame the reaction to any anticipated release... especially exclusives on the HD twins. So it seems natural that if it were less "hyped" the reaction would have been more muted, just like every other exclusive flop this gen. Missed hype gives rivals an opportunity to dance and sing, and the greater the flop, the more trolls and haters will celebrate. The more others celebrate, the more some fans fume and rail against the review. Nothing particularly special about this particular flop. That's the way the SW game gets played...

Speaking of playing games, I completely forgot about Infamous 2! I imagine the price is pretty reasonable these days.... *runs off to read review*

There are similar cases on 360 like Forza 4 which got AAA+ everywhere and AA here. Ppl just moved on...

But yeah, fanboys are fanboys. Some groups just seem to be more sensitive to scores than others :P

Had reasonable Hype Levels of AA, I suppose Cows should simply hype every game A from this point on but wait that's "playing it safe" and taking the fun out of the metagame. Certain users on here will find any reason to mock the cow fanboy group while purposely ignoring the other 3 factions. *shrugs*

only time will tell on that one. halo wars would have been the prime candidate for that but it's really only brought up when people complain about bias for the 360. forza 4 could be another but that seems to have vanished as well.

games flop all the time. most are forgotten rather quickly but this one has lingered far longer than most and it's not even a case of a game scoring AAA at most other places but lower here. it was a AA averaged game that scored a A here and yet there's a huge backlash. that's why it's different.
