[QUOTE="nyoroism"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="nyoroism"]I think it would be safe to say that more people who buy an XBOX will go onto XBOX Live than people who buy a PC would get XFire or Steam.'Cause, you know, you gotta count all of those people who aren't buying PCs for gaming. And I'm talking in a percentage perspective.Vandalvideo
Which is a detached statistic which really doesn't mean much. Not only is it unlikely that you will ever meet the entirety of either community, nor can you prove that statement, but variety is something that is much more important. With XFIRE, a great deal of players are using it, most players I dare say. The percentages are really not important, because you're never going to meet all of them. The variety of PC online is what makes it great.

I've read this a few times and though I know I can't prove anything (I was just making a logical assumption) I still have no idea what you mean by "the variety of the PC".

The multitude of services.

Oh, ok. So instead of having everyone in one place I get to have several programs so I can tell which friends are on what.

Christ, it's like having some friends on Windows Messenger, some on AIM and some on YIM. Unnecessarily complicated.

Really? I thought all PC gamers played was Counter-Strike, World of Warcraft and Runescape. Damn and I've been wrong all these years!!!

very wrong

Also unlike you console players PC gamers don't jump ship to another game when a new one comes out.

Console players will play COD4 and Halo 3 till Gears 2 comes out and forge abotu COD and Halo.

So what other genres besides strategy, MMO, shooters do PC-gamers play?

Complicated? Hows doing 1 or 2 more clicks to see other friends complicated? I see why you play consoles now

Versatility is great. At the same time, variety can be a doubleedged sword. Many times, varied easily becomes random and unorganized.

People like a more guided experience as I mentioned in a previous post. What's wrong with that?

I doubt you have even played PC and your calling it unorganized...WOW

Dude, I cut my online teeth on MUDs and worked my way through CS, EQ, UO, Rogue Spear. And yes, it can very easily become unorganized unless the people you play with have their stuff together.

[QUOTE="PSTriple4life"][QUOTE="ChevelleFan"]

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="ChevelleFan"]I don't know why you have to respond with childish sarcasm, but all of my points are completely valid. I can't start up my PC right now and have my friends list right in front of me with latest news on games and tournaments and I can't access tons of downloadable content on the same page either. The point is that with XBL you are not paying just to play games. I don't have to download steam client (which is a system hog BTW) to create a friends list. Sure PC gaming has its pros but I don't see how XBL is joke since it is arguably one of the best online services available. ChevelleFan

Sure you can, you can have XFIRE start on start up, and your friends list will be right in front of you. Then you click the community tag and it has events that you can participate in. Not to mention XFIRE now has downloadable content, patches, movies, etc. Xfire even comes standard with most new games. Sorry, wrong, NEXT.

Why so hostile? Really this thread is just full of stupid fanboys. Yeah sure I'd rather not pay for XBL but I have no problem with it. I don't know why you think that the PC has to be superior to consoles in every way. All I am saying is that claiming XBL is a joke is completely false and you just won't accept other peoples opinions. Why post in a thread where the only people who can be right is yourself and the people who think like you? I didn't even intend to get in this argument with you. From my perspective I never bashed the PC and I brought up valid points yet you act like 7 year old who has to be right aout everything. Xfire may come with most new games but XBL is guaranteed for all 360 games. I would say there is nothing wrong with PC online, but apparently paying for benefits and convienence which you think is free on the PC makes you above everyone else.

The only games people play on Xbox are COD4,Halo 3, and GOW so....yea x_x

Thats a huge generalization and BTW what exactly do PC gamers play online?

I think a bigger question is what pc gamers DON'T play online.. There are online communities that have been around for 10 years and still kicking.

Way too many people quoting me.

1) Maybe you do things different from me, but I don't have 100+ friends. I like to keep it below 10 when it comes to people I only know over the internet. I don't just randomly add people I don't know, so therefore I like to keep everyone I know on one list.

2)The "because you can't" thing was a joke. (hurr hurr PC games are few and far between!!) I wasn't being serious.

Keep in mind that I play PC games more frequently and for longer periods of time than I do console games. Though mostly they're just free-to-play games.

And like I said, the likelihood of that ever happening is pretty slim. Most people you meet online playing probably are going to have XFIRE. Atleast, everyone I've ever met has had xfire. The only exception is WoW, and WoW has a built in chat service anyway.

Well, dunno man. I'm currently replaying GTA 3, I'm stucked with Team Fortress 2, trying out CoD 4 multiplayer, replaying Crysis for the third time, this time with some insane graphics mods, new free singleplayer and multiplayer maps (user-created) etc.

And yeah, Steam is shaping-up into a far superiour online service than Xbox Live. I'm not saying that Xbox Live is bad. It's a great, quality service, but Valve proves that you can get the same quality service for free. And to that guy who said that Steam is unstable... you obviously never installed it.

Yes, the likelyhood of me ever meeting someone on CS without Xfire is very unlikely. However, as I said before, I usually only play free-to-play games. Meaning things like from ijji.com (GunBound, Soldier Front) or OGPlanet (BB Tanks, Albatross18).

What do you think the likelihood of me meeting someone THERE with Xfire is? Or someone with another program?

PsTriple, I have a question. Why is it you only seem to pick on the 360? After all, aren't you a hardcore Hermit (if so, hide him away fellow PC fans)? Why do you ingore the other consoles?

And like I said, the likelihood of that ever happening is pretty slim. Most people you meet online playing probably are going to have XFIRE. Atleast, everyone I've ever met has had xfire. The only exception is WoW, and WoW has a built in chat service anyway.

That really depends. The more popular free games are most likely going to have a corroborating community or they use XFIRE. I mean, most american FTP gamers you're going to find on ONRPG.COM. Then again, most of those people will probably have Xfire as well.

[QUOTE="RoboThreat"]ok great, and i am trying show you the understanding why people choose Online Gaming Service on a console instead of PC Gaming.PSTriple4life

Really?

WOW=10 Million Players which is the same amount of Subscribers as XBL and thats just one game

Steam=13.5 million more than XBL userbase

Xfire=9 million

There are more I could list but thats enough ownage for now :)

Ok. What ownage?

Situation:

I'm playing... let's say... DOA4 online. I meet this person online that I like. "Hey man add me to your friend's list we can play again sometime". That's that.

Now let's say I'm playing... Counter-Strike and I meet this person online that I like. "Hey man add me to Xfire we can play again sometime".

"Oh, I don't have XFire".

"Oh, I only have [insert other program here]".

nyoroism

Chat-wise, the situation actually is like you described it. For example, I only use ICQ, and can't stand other programs like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger or whatever. But there's actually a solution for that in shape of Trillian, or Pidgin, but then again, most of my friends are on ICQ, and I want to keep it that way.

But gaming wise, there's Xfire, and probably Steam. Xfire is something like Xbox Live on the PC. A standard. But Steam is also getting there pretty strong.

So, there's not much confusion between those programs like you described it.

The point is, if you go onto XBOX Live, everyone you meet will have XBOX Live.

If you play a PC game, not everyone you meet will have Xfire.

Which again, for all intents and purposes, is not true in practical application.

And you don't think console players play that many genres online?

tramp

No i don't think they do and I'm being generous I could break the genres down alot futher then that.

Fighting, arcade racers, sim racers, Mech sims, FPS, TPS, RTS, MMo, Puzzle, tactical shooter.

Alright it might not be as many genres but there is a lot more then FPS only games that people claim in this thread.

As in, real situations. You're probably not going to meet anyone who doesn't have xfire while playing most gamse. thats what practical application means.

[QUOTE="nyoroism"][QUOTE="PSTriple4life"]BF2, DOD,RO,COD 4, CSS, FEAR,BF2142,UT3,WIC, AND MMO's there are more I forgot to nameprinceofshapeir

RTS,TBS, FPS, FPS/RTS, FPS/RPG, Sports, Sport Sims, Arcade Racers, Sim Racers, MMO's, RPG's, Sims.

And you don't think console players play that many genres online?

Name me a good MMORPG or RTS exclusive for consoles.

Pikmin is a great RTS

Can you mention a good PC exclusive Fighting game and Platfom game?

It was to prove a point, that you don't have any exclusive MMOs, for now.

Actually, if anything, the PC has more distinct genres than the consoles. It may not have as many fighters and platformers, but it definitely has dozens of genres that the consoles don't have.

MUGEN is one of the best fighting games around. It has complete modding freedom and a HUGE PC community.

I have never said that PC as a platform lacks game variety I only defended the consoles variety.

So if PC has more genres does that make consoles lack variety?

It means that the PC has just as much, if not more variety.
