What is so hardcore about not having a touch screen? I only see that feature as a good thing.PurpleMan5000Hmm, made me think no controller must be the hardest of the hardcore :o Kinect FTW ?
I don't see a tablet controller as a negative, per se, as it can add new function without sacrificing current utility.
But I haven't really seen much from developers yet that show they'll use it as more than a gimmick thus far.
I am curious how many people were vehemently against a tablet controller before but are now open to it, though.

From a video game standpoint I cant imagine using a tablet to play any intense game, but I think the deeper picture here is that Micro is always pulling off Trojan Horse type strategies to get their prod into the market. As anyone can see Micro has remained relatively quite while everyone and their mom is out here creating tablets and I Pads etc. That has to be eating into their business at an alarming rate. But rather then just creating a "Me too" tablet they are probably creating this "xbox tablet" that will give you access to Xbox live, all the movies you own, tv shows, apps etc. All the things you do at home on your xbox that is linked to your profile but now you will have it on the go. Given how huge their "entertainment" numbers have been doing on the xbox, (last I heard they were making more money on their entertainment apps then on software sales on the xbox) This tablet would be an instant injection into the competitive market with its own built in audience. That being said....you cant "game" on a tablet.

Nothing hardcore about it, but imagine trying to play competitively with this thing in your hands, lol...
Huh? How about every wiiu owner will be using one, and the competition is about who can utilize the control interface the best. Isn't that more along the lines of what competition is, anyways?

Just imagine trying to play an RTS on a console without that thing in your hands.
[I dunno.. when I hear tablet, I think bulky. The Wii U controller doesn't look that comfortable to me. I guess I'd have to see MS's new controller before I can really judge, but I'm a simple traditionalist. I just don't view the wheel needing to be reinvented. JustPlainLucasI hear you. I said the same when they came up with that stupid analog sticks or shoulder buttons. Who needs that crap?
IF TRUE Sony is the hardcore's only hope? InterestingZaibach
Let's say this rumor ends up being true:
Wii U: tablet controller
Nextbox: tablet controller
iOS platforms are tablets
you really think Sony will just say "heh we'll just keep our regular old controller while everyone else goes the tablet way and at the same time alienate ourselves from the competition"
Not gonna happen, Sony will have no choice but to follow.
So pretty much this:[QUOTE="JollyGreenOne"]
[QUOTE="Xbox World Magazine"]Microsoft are experimenting with a tablet-like controller with a shape closer to Sony's sleek Vita handheld / Apple's iPad than Wii U's bulky unit - it's an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks.lbjkurono23
What is so hardcore about not having a touch screen? I only see that feature as a good thing.PurpleMan5000My favorite genre is FPS ... I already think gamepads are crap for them, I couldn't imagine playing COD or BF with a tablet, it would be like a special olympics competition online.

[QUOTE="sandbox3d"]Agreed.Funny how so many of you are scared sh*tless of improvement and innovation.
"Oh noes! I'm still using the same control scheme that I've been using for over a decade now, but with even more functionality!:cry:"

That is all of you guys.

I agree as well.

It didin't sound distasteful, it was distasteful.
But anyways, all the comments regarding analog sticks are true. I wasn't around for the transition from Atari to NES, but I vivdly remember gamers going, "um, wtf is that?" In regards to the N64 controller. There shouldn't be this level of concern. The screened controller only makes more sense for things to evolve. Remember how splintercell used the analog sticks/vibration to have little puzzles for picking locks? Well think of the possibilities in this respect, but with a tablet controller. It offers tons of potential.

I think it would offer a control scheme as good as the PS3's. It doesn't look like it would be as comfortable as the Xbox 360 for FPS, but there is always the PC.
So...it's basically like an Ipad, but the MS version and it's going to be made for gaming? It will be interesting to see this, especially if MS can pull this off.
I don't really see how this would work though in alot of game genres, I hope there'sa normal controller available as well.
Something tells me Lems arn't going to like this news.
We'll see more at E3, I just hope it's not a cheap gimmick like Kinect was, but if MS does this right it would make for some interesting gameplay.
Don't get your hopes up, Sony fans. playstationlifestyle confirmed that the Dualshock 4 will be a pair of bongo drums.ActionRemixEpic sig, as always! Hope Sony doesn't copy this too. I don't want an overload of casual consoles next gen.
Halo, CoD and Gears fan here. I don't see how this will prevent me from enjoying these games. It still has the buttons and analog sticks to play the way like I did before. Plus, it would be cool to use the touch screen when using airstrikes in CoD, or even changing a load out on the fly without pausing. That's just off the top of my head. Wait until the developers put some thought into this.I'll believe it when I see it.
There is no way they'll alienate the entire CoD. Gears of War, and Halo fanbases they built up.

No. If it was basically an Ipad it wouldn't have analog sticks and buttons. I'd definitely wouldn't like it.So...it's basically like an Ipad, but the MS version and it's going to be made for gaming? It will be interesting to see this, especially if MS can pull this off.

This will be cool if Sony does the same thing.Otherwise PS4 will get screwed over for multiplats.
But since it clearly says they're TESTING it, I'm going to assume it will not leave the testing stage.

Do you ever throw your controler when you play those games?

Yeah I have over the years of gaming, but I never threw my GB, GBA, DS and 3DS when I played them. Why? Because they're expensive and can't take a beating like a regular controller. So, no I wouldn't be tossing this controller around.[QUOTE="sandbox3d"]
[QUOTE="Assassin_87"]
lmao, this is exactly what I think every time I read through one of these topics about the next gen. There's always apprehension when it comes to change. I wonder how long it will be before we see some sort of awesome, "core" game series being put on display at E3 using one of these "SCARY NEW CONTROL SCHEMES". Because as soon as that happens, people will breathe a sigh of relief and resume being the sheep that they are.
Renegade_Fury
Yep. Its always funny watching these things pan out over time. Its entirely possible that this could be the new norm for controllers this coming gen and all the naysayers will be on board with it acting like they never had doubts.
I mean damn. It has everything that you would come to expect from the standard controller plus so much more. Whats not to like?
I love these posts. When a new console comes out, I want drastic changes, not just an improvement in graphics. Back in the day, we used to get brand new controllers every time a new gen showed up. This time around, only Nintendo dared to do anything exceptionally different. I say bring on the new tech, bring on the new way to play video games. :D
yeah they shud just let u hook up a mouse and keyboard next gen wud be the best then[QUOTE="Renegade_Fury"][QUOTE="sandbox3d"]

I mean I dont know much about GB, and GBA so I dont know how intense those handheld games get, but when I'm on Live playing Halo, Gears, or COD, between people talkingS!$t and getting killed, my controller has taken some abuse over the years. And I cant imagine in those instances I would honestly be able to stop and think "This is an expensive controller, let me not throw it or drop it in any way". They would really have to work on the screen's durability if this was the primary gaming controller
so many reactionary goobs on this site. what is wrong with you people?
"omg something i don't like. i'm going fully pc this gen"

I see what you mean. Halo, Gears and CoD online are very competitive, and will be a true test for me and others out there. As long as you can still use the current XBOX360 controllers with the new system, controllers that I think are perfect, I really don't care what new device MS packages with the new system. Also it sounds pretty cool if done right. Obviously they are trying to make their next system the ultimate all in one device for the living room.
And this is what worries me. Nintendo is going to be the same thing as the other consoles, except (maybe) have worse graphics and such. Obviously we don't know any of this for sure, and I could be and hope I am wrong. But I don't want to see Nintendo's console be inferior. I hope they blow me away.
Lol at lems on here, guys they will probably have a standard controller as well, or the tablet will encompass that kind of like the Wii U is doing. They are not going to abandone that COD and Halo money ok, Calm down.
However we all knew MS was headed in this direction, they closed down many studios and abandoned their origional Xbox fanbase.
As of right now Lems have two options:
1) Start liking Kinect and learn to love the newthe direction MS is taking the Xbox platform
or
2) Jump ship to another platform
Those are your options, don't like them too bad. You have a choice, don't blame me or anyone else if you make the wrong one. If your not happy with the direction MS is going why don't you just buy a new system then? Otherwise just shut up and deal with it.
